  1. I guess it depends a bit on the doctor. If you are on the full liquid diet as I will be 2 weeks before my surgery, there is not much that I can eat (solid food). I will be able to eat leafy green vegetables (unlimited) as well as steamed veggies. Nothing else except 3-4 Protein shakes a day and Water, sugar free drinks and popsicles, bouillon, and SF gelatins. I am going to make up a HUGE batch of chicken broth and SF Jello before I start. AGAIN - it depends on your doctor though so don't go by my eating plan. I think you would be OK with the popsicles and gelatins though.
  2. my date is 12/30. I have no doubts what so ever. A bit of nerves tho. I had 4 major surgeries in 2014 - never elective. I am cleaning house - getting everything in place!! Its like pregnant nesting!! It has been over 30 years since I had a pregnant nesting!!! Guess I will see what that is like again! I am having surgery for the VSG on 1/19/16 and am so excited. I also am having a bit of nerves but I have no doubts as to getting the surgery. My best to you for your surgery on the 30th, Cherri and yours, Taylor on the 14th of Jan.
  3. LovelyBrown, how did surgery go? I hope and pray you are feeling well. In any case, have a Merry Christmas. I KNOW your new year will be wonderful!what a wonderful gift to yourself. I hope you are on the mend. My date 12/30 Lovely Brown: How are you feeling now?
  4. Hi, CMC: I am also traveling to Mexico for surgery- Tijuana. My nephew and 2 cousins had surgery at the particular center that I am going to. Christmas has been a bit hard for me - losing weight. I have only gained 1/2 a pound considering everything! I know what you mean about support. My daughter was not very supportive in the beginning but now is totally on board. Of course, my sister and nephew are and have been my main support so far. They are both traveling with me to Mexico. My daughter would love to go with me but has 3 small children at home and won't be able to leave them for that long. You are fortunate that your sister is a nurse and traveling with you. She will be a great assistant on you recovery. As you know, we all need encouragement. Stay strong and we will both have a WONDERFUL 2016.
  5. LovelyBrown, how did surgery go? I hope and pray you are feeling well. In any case, have a Merry Christmas. I KNOW your new year will be wonderful!
  6. Tried it and liked it. I tried cinnamon as someone else suggested and did not like that as well.
  7. I am having a VSG on January 19, 2016 at the Obesity Control Center with Dr Ariel Ortz. Wondering if there are any others sharing my surgical date? Let's connect and then meet in person at the Center. I know I will need support and encouragement and I am sure you will too. We can exchange emails and possibly phone numbers when we get to the Center on the date of surgery. This way we can stay connected and help each other out when things are slow or tough or emotional. I am 62, 5'1" and currently on pre-op diet.
  8. Your weight loss is so inspiring. My nephew had surgery at OCC in June this year. He has lost over 100# in 6 months! Of course, he is a guy! He has answered so many of my questions to date. I am sure before I go for surgery I may have more. Congratulations on your WL journey.
  9. I tried putting pumpkin pie spice in my vanilla shake as someone mentioned. Yummm. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
  10. I really like the Premier Protein shakes. They have 30 grams of protein and taste really great - at least the vanilla does! If you have a Costco membership, they are about $25 per case of 18 so that equals about $1.40 each. They have 160 calories per shake and keep me full for a long time. I have tried all sorts of shakes and I also like Whey Tech Pro 25 at 24 grams of protein, 110 calories. They have a Chocolate Mint that is really good! Best wishes for your surgery on the 23rd.
  11. Cathy, bless your heart. You have been through hell and back. I am happy you have been able to lose weight with all that going on and to finally have your bariatric surgery. I have not had anywhere near your struggles! I was 52 when I had to have both knees replaced due to very aggressive osteoarthritis. Has affected all my joints but the knees so far are the only ones I have had to have replaced. I am so hoping and praying that my surgery and weight loss journey (started 12/11 with pre-op diet and surgery scheduled for surgery 1/19/16) will allow me to get more active and with the weight loss alone, stave off more replacements and save the $100,000 knees I have now! You take good care of yourself and my best thoughts and prayers for your success.
  12. Shareefa and Paigem. I pray your surgery goes well and you are back on the road to success again.
  13. You don't say how much excess weight you are carrying around but I think of it this way: All of the excess weight I carry around is KILLING ME. It may be a slow death at this point but I certainly am NOT healthy the way I am. Oh, I am not sickly or anything like that but with all the excess weight, I am out of breath, cannot walk far without stopping, my joints are suffering, I take medications for high cholesterol and blood pressure, and on it goes. I am retired (last April) and I too have grandchildren that I want to be able to play with. I would love to be able to go hiking, or just take a walk on the beach! I occasionally like a drink as well. My nephew had surgery in June and occasionally adds a bit of vodka or rum to his Crystal Light! He said he seems to be able to tolerate that just fine as long as he only has one. As for dying: Yes, we could die as a result of having surgery - it is one of the serious complications faced going into surgery of any kind. That being said, I know that I am dying anyway just by being as overweight as I am. What is to say that if I don't have the surgery, that I won't have a heart attack and die anyway? I am just going to try to take some of the pressure off my already stressed heart by having bariatric surgery. I am very sorry to have rambled on and on. I guess I am fortunate (or unfortunate) to not have a spouse to worry about me or be the naysayer. It took a while to convince my daughter that I was doing the right thing. And after much prayer, I do believe that having the WL surgery is the ONLY thing that will truly aid in my health. I have tried so many other WL plans that I have NOT been successful at that I am at the bottom of the rope. I pray that you and your husband come to grips with this fear. Pray a lot and let the Lord take care of your fears (if you are a Christian). That is what I am doing!
  14. I totally know what you mean. My family is this way as well. So, I am on a pre-op Atkins right now and have planned foods that I CAN have and share. They are all high protein/low carb and I know everyone will enjoy them. I like what Juno5 posted about making the holidays about something other than food. Make new traditions. If everyone is coming to your house, make only foods that you CAN eat. If the family is bringing foods, remind them that you are choosing to start living a healthier lifestyle and you simply cannot have (insert food item). Christmas is or should not be about the food! I made a conscious decision to NOT make any of the goodies that I would normally have made. As for the psych eval - My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery so I am self pay and that evaluation is not required by my surgeon. I did discuss this with my Nurse Practitioner who has also had bariatric surgery. I went over what my goals and thoughts are and she said basically that I had thought this through well and that she believes I will be very successful. I am scheduled for a sleeve on January 19, 2016 So, with all that in mind, have a very Merry Christmas.
  15. What a wonderful idea. Since I am only about a month from surgery, I have purged my kitchen of all the tempting food items and given them to my daughter. I am not into making or eating cookies but I did make chocolates in the past. I told everyone not this year! I don't want the temptation right now and frankly, no on in my circle of friends and family need it either. I have searched out some high protein/low carb snacks though as I know there needs to be food but just want to make sure there is something festive that I can eat. Since it is so close to Christmas now, I will incorporate your idea for next year for sure. Thanks.
  16. I am having the VSG on January 19, 2016. I was told no nicotine in any form for 2 weeks prior to surgery. I am taking Chantix to quit. I figure if I am going to FINALLY lose weight for my health, I also need to stop smoking for my health. Smoking is worse for you than the weight in any case.
  17. I am having my VSG on January 19, 2016. I am so excited. I am in the Pacific Northwest - Olympia WA
  18. Just found this forum. I am 62 and scheduled for a VSG on January 19, 2016. Can use all the support and encouragement I can get.

Share your thoughts about head hunger!

Thanks you all for your posts about "head hunger". I have not had surgery yet as I am still in the contemplation/research phase. This was/is a HUGE concern for me as I do find I eat more when I am bored or emotional about something.
