Hi - I am a 62 year old woman who just retired. I have been on a weight loss journey for the past 50 years with no long term solutions. Now that I am retired, I find myself a bit at loose ends and the weight is continuing to pile on.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit with my nephew who just had bariatric surgery in Mexico. He is so happy with the results so far and could not tell me enough about his experience. I also have a cousin who had the surgery a year or so ago who has lost a tremendous amount of weight.

I have not had surgery yet but am looking into this procedure and continuing to discuss this with my relatives who have had the surgery.

I am a bit confused about the different types of surgeries available. I understand lap band as well as bypass but what is the difference between gastric sleeve and gastric sleeve plication. Is it that in the gastric sleeve, a portion of the stomach is physically removed? and the plication it is not?

Anyway, I am in my research phase (and trying to figure out how to pay for this procedure if I choose to have it) so I am interested in any information that can be given.

12/15/15 - so I completed my research and set the date - January 19, 2016. So, now I am on pre-op Atkins and have lost 9 pounds since 12/11/15. Yay!

I started a journal and am tracking my weight/BMI, writing a personal journal/private blog about my journey. I am also gathering before photos so I can SEE the changes. I have found a couple of photos from 1977 when I was about 160 pounds and wow, I looked pretty good in those photos!

My daughter told me she is about 20 pounds overweight right now. I told her to GET IT OFF NOW before it becomes 40, 50 75, 100+. I advised her that since I am morbidly obese and my trip to this state of body, she needs to get it off now so she NEVER has to go through what I am going through.

2/9/2016. I had my surgery on 1/19/2016 . I am now 3 weeks post op. I have lost a total of 44 pounds since I started my research. I have way more energy and desire to succeed.
This is by far the best thing I have ever done to save my life!
