  1. @@Dub thank you so much for answering my questions. my surgeon has been great. he ordered my nausea Patches already and meds for pain-other meds to coat my stomach carafate? and other pills for nausea after surgery. I like how they start on the nausea before you will even get it. I have to put the patch on that morning before I go to the hospital. I have 4 and they last 72 hrs I believe. Thank you for calming my fears of needles. I have had a few surgeries as well. some nurses are great and numb up the site when they see I am crying like a little bleeep ha. thank you so much it is so nice to hear from someone that all of this is still so fresh. 3 more days!!!
  2. Sorry if this is a dumb question. did they put I.v's in your legs? I am having surgery on Monday oct 19th and kind of nervous..geez I hate needles..ha. you sound like all is going well!! are you hungry? thanks for sharing.. all the best.
  3. I am an Oct 19th sleever too!! nervous and excited all at once. It is finally hitting me!! this is about to go down!! I havent told anyone. I cant wait to wake up with it all done!!
  4. Hi all- well it is finally here. My surgery is on Monday 10/19. Last night was my LAST Monday for everything Pre-surgery. If that makes sense. The last Monday I get to exercise in Jazzercise. (for a while-I just started going a month ago and love it) the last Monday night I will sleep in my bed with the same stomach. Last Monday my body will be this same condition it is in. I had a mani and pedi this past weekend with my girlfriends and had to have all my nail polish off-one of the restrictions for me is that we cant have fingernail polish on for the surgery? I have been feeling like I am nesting. Cleaning my house. getting last minute things taken care of. Shopping for broth and puddings and cream soup. Getting my vitamins all ready to go in a mediset for the right times.Writing down on my calendar what days to do what phase of the food plan after surgery-starting with broth and popsicles- then moving on to pudding and strained soups-bought some loose pajama shorts and tops to wear- slippers for the hospital safe ones with grips on the bottom to push IV pole. charging up my kindle fire-I will probably be out of it and wont even read. who knows. Anyone else feeling this? or felt this as the days close in ? I am excited and nervous. I haven't told anyone except my husband what is going on. He supports me totally. I know I am blessed that way. I just don't want to be judged by other people that I am taking the easy way out. As we all know on here this is not the easy way. I have had colon cancer and breast cancer. and I have survived. I lost my 20 yr old son two years ago to leukemia even though he was in remission.I got breast cancer six months after he passed. and if none of that killed me then I am doubting this will. I do feel like I am here for a purpose. We are here for each other on this earth. You are me and I am you. Our struggles and challenges all look different.but Everyone we meet has been hurt in some way and struggles with something. Any other advice about pre-surgery things? All the people here are so positive and upbeat. Thank you so much!!

  7. Hey thanks @@thisfathasgot2go for the great advice. I forgot about the slippers. Those purple ones with the bear claws? with grips. those are awesome. Yes I am worried about the gas as well moving up to my shoulder and neck. but who knows might not have it. Heating pad sounds great. Thank you for the tips! I am having my surgery at Richmond Kaiser. amazing how different all the plans are. I had to lose 12 lbs before I could get a surgery date. But no Protein diet or liquid diet at all. It is interesting to hear all the other requirements. thank you for sharing!!! All great ideas.

Why do we have to diet?

Thank you for posting this. So many of us are on different *plans* here. I am having surgery on Oct 19th. I didnt have to do a post op diet. I just have to not eat anything after 8pm the night before my surgery. so it is interesting. I don't have to have all that Protein before either. And they gave me a binder to read about all the rules and Vitamins. We had one group meeting with a nutritionist. We get a follow up phone call 3 weeks after surgery from the nutritionist. So I am learning as well. I do get that we have to eat protein first. Always get that in to keep our bodies strong. Also we don't want to eat empty calories. We want to eat healthy. and make good habits that last. We are changing for the better. But i have honestly learned more from the great people here than I have from any visits. But I keep learning and comparing information. Making sure it makes sense. The more we know ..the better we will do. Best of luck to you. God bless. R.

  15. Hello. I am having surgery on Oct 19th!!! I do not have to do a preop diet. Just maintain my weight where they wanted me to be and I am. I have bought some broth for the first stage then some puddings and cream Soups for the second stage. I want to be ready. Hoping I dont have to take 4 weeks off. but we will see. Richmond California Kaiser? anyone

Also the orientation is very informative ,, long you might get Liz she's ummm interesting .. If you have any questions ask there ... Keep your binder they give you it helps and has tons of info. You also find out who your surgeon is .. That day. My process went fast .. Everyone's process is different. It's really the psych evaluation that pro longs it if you can get a appointment before he gets booked you will be cool. Options? What is that? Didn't hear about thatHa yes Liz is veryyyyy interesting. I wonder if she had this operation. she kind of scared me.ha. yes one time I didnt have something filled out in the binder and I was like a kid at school getting reamed.. yikes.never forgot again.

    Richmond California Kaiser? anyone

Hey just wondering if you could be so kind to tell me your experience as i am going through the same Kaiser. . How long did it take from start to finish?? Did you have to do the 24 weeks of options??? Congratulations btw !!!! Sure no problem. It took about 4 months from the time of getting a referral from my primary care doctor to go through all the classes-psychologist visit-information class-meeting with a case manager-losing 12 lbs to get the date. I did not have to do options. Not sure why -they never brought that up even in the information class. I am getting a gastric sleeve. Not sure if that makes a difference. I have not been on any diet. Just adding more Protein and eating healthier to lose those 12 lbs- hope that helps. good luck
  20. It is amazing how many different requirements there are for each surgeon and the area. I have surgery scheduled for oct 19. I had to lose 12 lbs before I could get it scheduled. I do not have to do any preop diet or cleansing anything. at 6pm the night before surgery I cant eat anymore. then the first two days at home I have to drink clear broth or sugar free Popsicles-sugarfree Jello. 3 day if no issues then puddings 1/4 cup at a time and cream of wheat soft mushy stuff. for two weeks. so yes very interesting. I hear all these people drinking Protein Shakes and none of that is listed in any of my phases of what to eat after the surgery. the third phase does include lots of Protein as in meat-eggs-tuna and nothing dried out.but then again who knows what I will be able to tolerate. those protein shakes may be looking good!! thanks for sharing!!! R
  21. That is great!! love to hear from people that have very recently had the surgery. I am having this on 10/19 so getting closer and love to hear about how people are feeling right after. thank you!! God bless..
  22. Hi all. I see lots of people posting about having a gall bladder scan and others talking about having the gall bladder removed. My surgeon has not mentioned one thing about my gall bladder. I'm pretty sure I still have mine. Have never had a surgery to remove it. So my question is.. what is the deal with the gall bladder and gastric surgery? Any help is greatly appreciated. Should I be asking my surgeon about this? My date is Oct 19 -2015. I have my last class tomorrow Sept 22. I wont see my surgeon but a general doctor for a physical and a class on what happens the day of surgery and how to care for myself afterwards..thanks for your help
  23. Hi all. My surgery is scheduled for Mon Oct 19-2015. My case manager told me I needed to attend a support group. So I went to my first one this past Thursday Sept 17-2015. I didnt know what to expect. We didnt have to sign in. I will mention that I have Kaiser and will be having my surgery in Richmond Kaiser. I live in Sonoma county and that is where my group was meeting at the Kaiser hospital in Santa Rosa Ca. The meeting was from 630pm-830pm. The first hour was a presentation from a psychologist about happy mind-happy lives and how we have to be positive. Anyways. the last hour was the best. There were 21 people meeting besides the nutritionist who was leading the meeting. At the end of the presentation the leader asked everyone to check in. So we went around the table and did a two minute check in with where we are. It was very interesting because there was a lady in there that was a week out of having gastric sleeve surgery. She had a pillow on her stomach and was sipping a bottle of Water. She said she was doing fine.Still sore but she was surprised that she could get the water down because she had heard that it was so hard to get the sips in.That was good to hear. Even though I know everyone is different. Another lady was three weeks out same surgery and she had an infection and was having to take antibiotics and they gave her pills she couldn't keep down the pills and they finally gave her liquid. She is doing better. There were three men there. There were people out a couple years and some were doing well and some were not doing so well but getting back on track. the lady next to me was five weeks out. I talked to her after the meeting and asked a lot of questions. Everyone was so supportive. I almost didnt go. I am so glad I went and will go next time on Oct 15 four days before my surgery. I hope I can come back to the next meeting and share my surgery experience. What do you do in your support groups? thanks for sharing.
