Bloom,They dont catherize you until your under in the operating room. At least thats when they did it to me. It didnt hurt to get out but if you dont pee by a certain time they say they will put it back in. It might sound like no big deal but I had the hardest time peeing after the surgery. I would sit in the toilet for an hr just to try to get a little tinkle out. I think that the anesthia affected my bladder so bad. I think my roomate must have thought I was crazy I had the urge to pee so bad but nothing would come out. I hope this is not the case for you. Good luck and I didnt get any ice bag I only got the ice chips to eat! -

Question for the girls......birth control
RAINWI replied to missymoo78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told that I had to stop it for 30 days also or I could stay on it and give myself injections of something for blood clots. I chose to go off of it for the month. I think that I started back on it as soon as I was done with the surgery. Like within the next week. -

Hi Val, I didnt even see a nurse I only saw Dr Hoffman and he said mushies. I think that the hospital is going to be even harder to get through to. Brenda quit so now they are missing someone to even answer the phones! Im glad I got it done when I did because I think that its going to be a long wait sorry! -

I had my first real fill today. He put in 1.5 cc in addition to the 3 he said he put in during the surgery. I can tell the difference already. Had a cup of cream soup for lunch and was very full. YEAH! -

Hi Judy, Well heres my update. After the 1st week I lost 8 lbs and was going up and down the same 8 lbs. But finally about 2 weeks ago I started to lose some weight. Since the surgery I have lost 14.5 lbs. Its been 8 weeks since my surgery. I can eat @ 2 cups of food with no problems. I have only gotten stuck one time and have never slimed or PB'd. I go to see Dr Hoffman on the 26th and hope that he will give me a fill. So far I am very happy with the band because it definately stops me from over indulging like I used to. -
At my one week visit my doctor told me I could wash it off with a washcloth. So I did. The incisions were definately healed underneath. But do what your doctor told you.
-
Clairey, I too was banded on the 23rd and have only lost the 8 lbs from the one week liquid diet. It does get frustrating seeing the same # everyday on the scale but Im sure it will get better . It has to or there wouldnt be so many people who love their bands right?

Hi guys, I just wanted to add a couple of things. I had my surgery on 6/23 and have only lost the initial 8 lbs from the liquid diet. It seems like this is very normal. I think its becase your body is so screwed up. I definately eat a LOT less than I did before. I get full on a 1/4 of the amount. It does get discouraging every morning being the same weight and Im sure it will get kicked started once I get my 1st fill. They dont really tell you this so keep it in mind. Im sure everyone is different but its happening to more than just me. As far as the glue went Dr H told me at my one week post op visit to wash it off with a washcloth. -
Im freaking fustrated...

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
RAINWI replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just thought that others would like to hear a smooth lap band story. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30 for my 11:30 surgery. I was taken to a room where I was given a gown and the socks with the treads. I was weighed and asked some questions about what I was there for. Then I was given the shot in my "love handle" for stopping blood clots. It didnt really hurt but it did leave a burnng sensation for a few minutes. I was in that room until 10:30 where I was hanging out and talking to my family. At 10:30 they came and got me and wheeled me to pre-op. There I was given my IV. Always the worst part for me because I have no veins. I wound up with two IV's. One in the bend of my left arm and one in my left wrist( very painful) Then I was taken to the operating room at 11:30. I was moved to the operating table and had my arms strapped down. They put something in my IV and had my breathe into the mask and I was out instantly. I woke up in the operating room and was very confused and shaky. They then wheeled me to the recovery room where it said it was 12:45 and I woke up just fine. I layed there and talked to the nurses for 2 hrs. They then sent me up to my room for my over night stay. My family was already there waiting for me. Of couse they came in and took my vitals. I had no real pain, it just felt like I had done a lot of ab excercises. The worst part was after the took out the catheter. I had the feeling like I had to pee really bad but nothing came out. It was very frustrating but normal. Its caused by the anesthisia.(sp) I spent most of the night in the bathroom trying to pee. I asked for pain meds every 4 or so hours. The doctors told me not to go to long without it. The meds acted fast but wore off fast. The next morning I started on liquid loritab because they said that is what I would use at home. I got home yesterday at 3. Had to wait to get the barium swallow done. everything looked good so I was released. Im supposed to drink one ounce of liquids every 15 minutes. The only pain I have is some shoulder pain from the gas and some stomach pain I think also from gas. My incision sites do not hurt at all. Good luck sorry my post was so long. Hope it helped someone! -

Well Im back from surgery and everything went great. Dr Hoffman did a great job and Im only suffering from minor belly pain and some shoulder pain from the gas. It went really smoothly and I was actually taken on time for my 11:30 surgery time. I was in the recovery room by 12:45 and In my own room by 3. The nurses were really nice and the hospital stay was great. I wish I could go back so I could get some peace and quiet away from my active 4 year old. Im not sure how many details you guys really want but either PM me or just ask Id be happy to answer any questions. -

Judy- I lost a little over 5%. I needed to lose 14 and I lost 16. Bloomerific- is this your 1 month visit with the dietician that you are worried about? I only lost 6 lbs by then and yes they were not happy but they told me to focus and lose the rest. By the time I saw Dr Hoffman I had lost a little over 10 and he seemed happy with it. Only by the final weigh in had I lost the 5% and that made Lisa happy so she could submitt it to insurance. Hope that helps -

I think that they wait until all of your stuff is in before they get approval from insurance. They want to make sure you did all your tests ect.. Brubear and I are hoping to be roomates! -

I jumped through my last hoop on Friday! I had my final weigh in and lost 16lbs total. Pretty happy with that. All looks like its a go for June 23rd just waiting for the insurance approval. Just a few things I thought you guys still in the process would like to know... I thought this last week I could have a food free for all, but they want you to do phase 1 of South Beach for the week before your surgery ughhh -

Yes I went on South Beach. That is another reason for the month between appts to see if you can lose the weight. I am 2 lbs short of my 5%. So they said I may have to go in and just get reweighed a lillte later. Dr. Hoffman was happy with my weight loss but I think that the 5% in needed for most insurance companies. -

Judy, Unfortunatley a month to see Dr. Hoffman is typical. They like to give you enough time to complete all of the tests and it seems to be the first avaliable time that he is free. The month between the visit and the surgery is also standard so that they can submit your info to the insurance company. Good luck to you if you can get in any quicker. I actually was happy that it was going so quick. Its such a long process.
