I haven't received my surgery date yet. BUT, let me just say this to you. You were very misinformed. Technically, you could eat what you want. But, that's just a very DUMB way of looking at it. I hate to say this but this doctor should be FIRED. He appears to be one of those doctors who are just in it for the money. Please go around and read things on this board. We all have a problem with food. That is the reason we are having this surgery done. The reason we became obese is because we all have problems with portion control and diet and nutrition as a whole. NO doctor in there right mind would tell a bariatric patient to eat whatever they want after the surgery. Read some of the blogs on here about how people get sick after eating too early or how eating certain things (mainly bad food) will have them feeling quite miserable. The program I am in requires us to focus on diet and exercising. That should be your main focus. I started my change back on 7/28 and to date I've lost 30 pounds. I did this because I began learning how important eating the RIGHT foods will mean to my body pre and post op. If you're struggling with your food choices you should see a NUT ASAP so you can get on track. I wouldn't listen to another word this doctor is saying because he's TOTALLY in it for the money. I'm sorry you were sold cheap goods. This is a major surgery that will take a lot of work on your part. Remember the surgery is just a TOOL. In order to lose as much weight as possible and to keep it up you can't have the same mentality that got you here in the first place. Get your mental right and work a plan and stick to it. I know it's hard. But you can def do it!

This is not a good sign. Do you see the pattern or lies here? When he wanted to go eat at the Mexican place he LEFT you and went alone because he didn't like the fact that would you just eat Soup. Now, that you're interested in going to his groups he tells you that "you'll be miserable". I'm sorry but it's 100% insensitive to tell a woman how she feels. How does he know that you're going to miserable? From a man, I will tell you that's code for "I DONT WANT YOU TO COME" and if he doesn't want you to come that's a SUPER red flag. You need to go to one of these meetings to see what he is up too. I hope he's not doing anything about of pocket. But, I smell a rat! Good luck!

Well said @Jeniiake. I agree 100%. Don't let the people in your life "RUN" your life. I've been there as well. When I let my family run me I was miserable. I took my life back and I love it! Screw anyone who thinks what I think is BEST FOR ME isn't good for them. It's not about them.

Here's my take on it. I hope that I don't offend anyone. But I'm just being honest. What we all have in common is the issues we've had with our weight. Some of us also have other issues i.e. insecurity, and depression. The people we are with in our relationship have learned to like those things about us. A man that is with a heavy woman might love heavy women. But he may love more what that heavy woman does to his ego. If your man can't give you a compliment after losing 80 pounds as a man in my mind it's saying that he doesn't want you losing weight. Your weight lost is now making him become insecure and he can't deal with that. It's OK for you to be insecure though to stroke his ego but he can't fathom that for himself. You need to sit him down and ask the tough questions. First starting with how your weight lost is effecting him. That's my take. Congrats on your current weight lost you should be proud of yourself. Hopefully your man can get on board and realize that not everyone is trying to lose weight to go find a new person. Good luck to you @@Sophie74656

Luckily for me I don't keep any vises around me. I'm a friendly person but I've always ate alone at work and I'm bringing my lunch in every day now. So, now I don't have to eat the catered work food. That's helped a lot! I'm in a great place right now. Thanks for all your encouragement and kind words! It's helped a great deal!

Oh no! Weight gain!
Jefferyc79 replied to Fabstar55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understandwhere you're coming from. Try and walk in 20 min shifts if u can before work or during your lunch break. It'll be good for your heart once you have the surgery. Stay on this board as well as people have great tips. I've learned a lot this month just buy being on this site. You have a lot of hurdles in front of you but you have to clear them before you get this surgery. Starting good habits now will only make you more successful in the long run. Start walking even if it's 20 minutes a day. You have to start somewhere. Good luck!! -
Oh no! Weight gain!
Jefferyc79 replied to Fabstar55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you been working out? And how quick did you gain the 10 pounds? Was it a month? Two months etc. So many different people have different concepts to what their bariatric nurse/surgeons have suggested or required in their program. The program that I am in states that no weight should be gained anytime you go in for an appointment. Every appointment that you have they check your weight and want to see if you have lost any weight. You have to remember that the main reason for the 6 month diet is to so that you can be disciplined enough to stick to a plan (even if you lose 5 pounds over 6 months). I haven't had the surgery yet but from what I hear you won't be able to eat a lot of food like we're use to doing. I have learned to eat much smaller meals. Trust me it was HARD. But, in a short two months I have lost about 26 pounds. I started off by eating what I loved and just eating smaller portions. Then from there I started eating healthier lean meats, rice and veggies. Then I totally switched it up. When I don't have a drink with my food I fill satisfied longer and it's making me not overeat. Try and shock your system and switch it up. You don't want to be penalized for gaining weight and getting denied by your insurance. I'm not an expert at this. I'm new too. But, those things have worked for me. Oh and plus now I'm up to at least 4 planned days of working out. I really wanna be super successful at this. You can do it. You just need a little boost. Distance yourself from your eating buddies, Try not to eat after 8pm. If you are starving and have to eat drink a Protein shake (low in sugar) or eat some Peanut Butter or nuts. It'll help you get through the night. And no matter what EAT BREAKFAST! And try and stop drinking calories. Those things are what I find has made me successful so far! You can do it! -
This is madness!!!! I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. The insurance lady who is in contact with my insurance company has told me numerous of times that the insurance counts your HIGHEST BMI at any point you are in the program. Before I even started the program I reached out to my insurance company and requested them to send me Bariatric insurance requirements. If your BMI is over 50 your 6 month diet is waived. If your BMI is over 40 and you have other obesity related health issues like High Blood pressure, sleep Apnea, or joint disease you are eligible for the surgery. I have sense lost weight since my initial weigh in of 342 pounds (down to 316) my insurance better not deny me when they set the requirement. That's insane. Please fight this. They are so wrong for this. Keep us posted on this for sure.
-
Congrats to you @Fabstarr55. We're all happy for you too. I know the 6 month diet had to be hard. But, I'm sure it was totally worth it. I didn't have to do a 6 month diet. My insurance waives me doing the diet if my BMI was over 50 which is was when I started my program. The pre-op class well be a lot of information so just be ready for that. They will cover nutrition, eating habits, fad-diets, exercise, etc you name it. It will be so much information you will be excited, and worried at the same time. So take it all in the best you can. Keep us updated on all your appointments and classes.

This is a great topic! I appreciate you for bringing this up @ellie123. I think that you pretty much answered your question for yourself on what would be best to do. But, if I could offer my two cents I'll tell you how I'm going to handle this. At first I was on the fence about telling anyone (other then my wife of course). The big thing with getting this surgery I find is the mental edge you have to keep. It's already so hard having this issue with food, and worrying about the scale and just the overall stress of the surgery in itself. People are going to judge. That's just want people do. So go into this knowing that. With that being said if I were in your shoes I wouldn't tell anyone who DOESN'T need to know. This is your decision and it's your life. People have to realize and understand that it is okay for YOU to make a decision in your life for yourself. One thing that really bugs me is people who don't have a weight problem and other obesity related issues can actually have the NERVE to even suggest that I should try something different. I told my Aunt with my wife that I was getting the surgery and her and my Uncle just jumped down my throat like if you've already lost 25 pounds you can lose 100 pounds, it might two you 3 years to do it but you can do it. The fact that she said that tells me that she just doesn't understand. I had to tell her because we need her to keep our son during the time I'm in the hospital. But, I will NOT be telling any other family members. The reason why I've done so well with my life change so far is because I have no added stress. People don't know I'm on a change (with my eating and working out) I don't broadcast it. I already have sooo much other stuff to worry about. After the surgery once I start losing weight faster I know that people will ask. And a few of my friends who I know won't judge me I'll tell. Other's I'll just say I've changed my life learning about weight and nutrition. It's not lying because that's exactly what he all are doing. We're changing how we look at food and how it pertains to our lives. I hope you decide to not bring more added stress to your life and keep it between yourself until you get to a point where you can handle telling people. Good luck @Ellie123. Also, congrats on your 5 pounds lost. Keep it up!

For me it was basically wanting to be able to keep up with my son. He's 6 and fast. He loves to play. Between my back, hip and side hurting I'm losing time enjoying the things he likes. I'm been big my whole life so it's just time for a change. At my highest weight I was 372. I'm now at 316 pre surgery. How about you?
