@@FrankiesGirl - that has been my main staple while on pureed foods is flaky fish. I also eat canned chicken with light mayo. Also peanut butter. -
Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
tcrehm replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't expect to take so long to get my energy back. I am two and half weeks post op and it is hard for me to be up and going more than 3-4 hours at a time if I am doing more than sitting in the recliner it wears me out. -
You got room for another 'round here ?
tcrehm replied to Dub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Dub You look well prepared! Make sure your surgeon knows you are on an antibiotic before you take anymore because he/she may not be ok with that. And stop doing stuff that may cause your surgery to be delayed! (Did you hear my mean mom voice coming out there! LOL!) -
How long did it take for you to be able to sleep on your stomach again after your surgery? (I'm looking for those who are total wimps when it comes to pain as those like my husband who has a high tolerance for pain are not representative of wimps like me!)

I'm at two weeks one day and still in the recliner. I asked at the doctor's office on Tues and they said most people are in the recliner for about 4 weeks, but based on the responses here, it looks like most are back in their bed on their stomach much quicker.

I have the Ninja Professional 8000 and it works well and even grinds ice well. Love it!

@@Runner1 I have 6 small incisions with the largest one being about 2 inches. -
I am two weeks out and oddly enough I have noticed my lower arms/wrists smaller and my stomach area.

Pressure under breast bone, still feel hungry.

I'm thinking a call to the doctor is in order. -
I just started mushy phase yesterday too! NUT said that I could eat anything that was mushy (or pretend I didn't have any teeth, and that is what consistency I can handle). I ate fish and mashed potatoes. So far so good!

You definitely look prepared! Only things I can think of to add are: - Hot water bottle to fill with ice to put on abdomen to decrease swelling - Heating pad to also help with swelling in abdomen. - GasX strips that dissolve in your mouth for the gas pains - Biotene for at the hospital when having dry mouth. -
My beautiful wedding band

I also had to quit wearing mine because it was too small. That is one of my goals to get to a weight where I can wear it again! -
changes in how things taste to us
tcrehm replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just noticed today (6 weeks post-op) that the chicken broth I have been drinking (pre and post op) tasted very salty today. I guess I need to start making my own broth too. Any good recipes out that fellow sleevers? -

@@Desmond Longbottom - thanks for sharing! I too have had many doubts about the surgery (even the last week after having the surgery when I was having a particularly hard time with pain management, drinking without having that pain in my upper chest, etc)) but when I think back to my lifetime of struggle with weight, I know in my heart that this is what I need to be successful at permanent weight loss. For those youth, shame on them! I imagine their parents taught them better but since they feel they got away with it, they are high on being hateful towards others. Just shows their immaturity and need to make themselves feel better by putting people down. My prayers and thoughts are with you as you move on to the next stage of your life!

So overall I have been good at remembering to sip instead of drinking normally but find myself still trying to drink a mouthful of liquid (especially water) instead of sipping at times if I don't actively think about it (about 4-5 times a day). Then it hits my chest and I definitely remember why I can't do that anymore! How long does it take to remember to sip after surgery and not take a "normal" size drink?

I am 6 days post-op and awake every night since surgery because I am hurting from pain from the surgery (mainly the left lower side where they went in with the staple gun for the laproscopic surgery). The pain meds I have been given by the doctor do not seem to be working well for this pain. Has anyone been given pain meds that worked well for them (liquid of course without NSAIDs) and if so, what was the name of the medication?
-
@@Jenskittle I've been using ice in my hot water bottle through the last few days hoping it would decrease the swelling. Looks like I will be changing to heating pad now to see if that works better! Thanks!
-
You will be glad you did. Your energy levels will be down and it will be hard to keep up with everyone and enjoy as much as you could before surgery.
-
Try the pre-op liquid diet. Per day: max 800 calories 60-80 grams of Protein a day max of 50 gram carbs 64 oz or more liquid clear broth peppermint tea or green tea to help stave off the hunger. That may be enough to get you there. Good luck!

Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
tcrehm replied to notforthefaint's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 days post op and still sore as well. i had really bad diarrhea for about 30 hours (over 30 times) on day 3 and 4 and after consulting with the doctor twice, used some liquid Imodium twice and that finally stopped it. The doctor said he had not seen that before and that people usually have constipation which is what I was expecting. I'm thinking my GI system was just very mad about the whole thing and letting me know about it! Good luck and prayers out to the sleevers coming up this week! All will be well and in a few weeks you will be so happy you are past this more challenging time. -

Ah. That would have been really good to do. Excellent suggestion for the pre-surgery group!
