Why cream soups over light soups
Sophie74656 replied to Mom26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it just means thicker soups, not necessarily ones made with cream, Progresso soups are often on sale now and they have a ton of amazing flavors to choose from. I find that one can is three meals for me -
Alcohol and the sleeve!
Sophie74656 replied to kimmiethomason1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe try to find some other ways to relieve your stress. Alcohol is definately not the best after surgery. Plus it's empty calories. An occasional drink is fine but every day can't be good -
I love beef. I can only have about two bites of it where chicken I can have a lot more. I cook it in my slow cooker to make it extra tender.

I had my surgery on sept 2 and just had my first real salad today, lettuce and some cucumbers and tomatoes. I couldn't believe how much I missed a simple salad

Made a really tasty salsa/guacamole for lunch today 1 avocado 1 large tomato half a red onion 1 jalapeno 1 can corn 1 juicy lime 1 packet taco seasoning fresh cilantro dice the tomato, onion, and avocado, add it with the corn and chopped cilantro to a bowl. Add the juice of a juicy lime, or two small limes. I added a tablespoon of the taco seasoning but you can add more or less per your own taste. Mix it up and let it sit for about half an hour then enjoy! You can also add more or less jalapenos depending on your heat preference a variation on this would be to add some diced chicken and serve it in lettuce cups. The best chicken salad ever!

that's awesome! I wish theaters would have more healthy options. Though the last time I tried to go to see a movie the tickets were almost $14 each so I doubt I'll be going to the movies any more

Sexy halloween
Sophie74656 replied to Tootsietoes's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I always love the idea of Halloween. But we never did anything. My parents never really Celebrate anything, and being overweight my whole life if I even mentioned going trick or treating I got lectures about my weight. As an adult it became more of not wanting to get up and go to the door every few minutes especially since our apartment is on the second floor. I was always self conscious so I never enjoyed putting on a costume either. I much prefer the holidays that come after, Thanksgiving and Christmas (though I'm technically jewish) -
I've found that different foods fill me up faster than others. I recently tried some beef in the slow cooker and could only handle two bites and I felt very full and uncomfortable. Chicken and fish I can eat more of. So it's been a lot of trial and error depending on the food for me. I bought some 3oz cups and use those to help me with my portions

I've been adding things to my cart. I'm looking forward to the chips, I really miss chips
-
I completely agree, I know a lot of people like it but I can't stand fruit in salsa or salad or in savory dishes

I'm going to give out regular candy. Personally I have no problem resisting the candy myself, and I think the kids should have one day a year where they get candy. The rest of the year they can eat healthy

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?
Sophie74656 replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've been to Trader Joes a few times and only pick a few items that I can't get anywhere else, but overall I prefer Walmart or my local grocery store -
Pre sleeve surgery jitters!
Sophie74656 replied to Castillo15's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I think we all have feelings like that. But the way I looked at it was that the benefits of loosing the weight outweighed the saggy skin issue. -
Sleeve or Bypass?
Sophie74656 replied to mayasmomma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
the sleeve used to be the first step in a two part system, where after the sleeve they would do the bypass. But it was shown that people lost enough weight with just the sleeve that it's now available as a standalone surgery that is nearly as effective as bypass the choice is up to you and your surgeon. Both require smart choices afterwards for healthy and long term weight loss good luck in whatever you choose -

according to my surgeon the sleeve will also cure diabetes, sleep apnea, and many other weight related issues -
Sleeve or Bypass?
Sophie74656 replied to mayasmomma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeon told me that the weight loss with the sleeve and bypass is almost the same. What I liked about the sleeve is that I could eventually still eat regular food (while maintaining small portion size). I've already been out to a restaurant when some friends invited us out. I didn't want to always turn down social situations because there might be food there. I can go out to a restaurant and eat something small. I've been to a diner and just got a small cup of chili, or something from the appetizer menu that my husband helped me finish -
Pureed Stage
Sophie74656 replied to Rebeccaabrooks86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had to do pureed foods but one of my favorite soft food was a ricotta cheese dish I made. I took some ricotta added some tomato sauce and some shredded cheese and microwaved it until the cheese was melted. Then I just stirred it and ate it. Eventually I was able to add some finely diced bell peppers and onions and a little bit of ham and it was awesome. For something more substantial, mix all of the above with some egg. Then take a muffin tin, line a cup with a slice of ham and fill it with that ricotta mixture and bake it until it is set. YUM! Also, one of my favorites is tuna mixed with avocado and boiled egg with a tiny bit of mayo. Mush it up really well. When you can eat more this is super tasty served on a slice of cucumber or in a hollowed out tomato. You can also make the same salad with chicken instead -

Never been the norm...
Sophie74656 replied to lalajade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way, my family always made a big deal about my weight and forced me into sports that I hated and every night they would make me lay on the floor in the living room and do sit ups while they watched and counted. But looking back I wasn't actually that fat. Through high school I was a 14, that's not as big as they were making it out to be -
Never been the norm...
Sophie74656 replied to lalajade's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never been a normal weight. Well I was a normal sized baby and toddler. The story I've been told was that I refused to eat and my grandmother convinced my parents to take me to the doctor. I was given something to make me eat and apparently I just never stopped. I have been heavy so long that I have NO memories of being "average" weight. -
I hate my body. I hate Halloween.
Sophie74656 replied to Tssiemer1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry but you wouldn't even be able to find a regular dress for that price if you like, send me a picture of the dress you have, I'm pretty crafty maybe I can give you some ideas on how you can spruce it up -
Hasn't hit me yet...
Sophie74656 replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a 64 oz plastic bottle on amazon, it was under $10. I would fill it with Water in the morning, and that way I could see how much I had and how much I had left. Since I can really only tolerate water when it's ice cold what I actually do is before bed I fill it 3/4 and stick it in the freezer. By morning it's solid. Then I fill it the rest of the way with cold water and I have ice cold water most of the day -
congrats!!!! I haven't seen the 150s since middle school

Sophie74656 replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr told me that in the first few days you probably won't get your 64 oz of Water in since your stomach is swollen and even smaller. Just start with small sips and see how it goes. Don't push yourself. You will eventually get your water in if you think you're going to get dehydrated try some Gatorade/Powerade too. They have low calorie ones that are pretty tasty
