Gastric Bypass (RNY) vs. Gastric Sleeve (VSG)
Sophie74656 replied to kartmom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are a ton of threads about this it might be helpful to read some of those. but each surgery has it's good and bad. You will most likely have great success with either but you have to see which one is right for you. Talk to your surgeon and see what they recommend. -
An Essay About the Experience of Being Fat
Sophie74656 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
interesting read. I understand the experience with the doctors. I had one doctor who I went to for something totally unrelated to weight and he kept asking me what kind of diabetes medication I was on. No matter how many times I said I wasn't diabetic he kept insisting that at my weight it was impossible not to be diabetic. -
I think I discovered my first slider food...

Trying not to feel so alone.

*virtual hug* I understand how you feel. I have social anxiety too. For a long time it helped me that my husband was outgoing and easily made friends. He was my support system when we were out. But now being single for the first time in 12 years I have no friends. What has actually helped me is the website meetup. I searched for something I was interested in and joined a couple of groups. I went to a couple of the meetups and actually had fun. -
Dreaming... about clothes
Sophie74656 replied to becomingmandikaye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just dream about the day I can wear whatever I want..when I don't have to worry about if a top is long enough to cover my drooping stomach skin -
well nothing is "easy". If it was we wouldn't be going through surgery I have had success with a low carb high Protein diet, and I've seen others here also have success. But my nutritionist gave me a good concrete meal plan

try some low calorie snacks like some fresh veggies or my favorite thing, pickles!

My current favorite pair of jeans I bought on clearance at Kohls for under $4. Unfortunately...or fortunately they are starting to look too big on me and I have to buy new ones this is the frustrating thing. I lost my job just before my surgery so while I was rapidly loosing weight I didn't have to leave the house much so I kept on wearing the clothes that were becoming very large on me. Then when I got a job 6 months later I had to run out and buy practically a whole new wardrobe. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I'm still loosing weight, but I need something to wear. So Walmart it is

To each their own, I just refuse to spend that much money on clothes. I literally just ordered 5 blouses and a pair of jeans from Walmart haha

I actually feel bad for the cats. We had three cats and I was out of work so I was home all day. Then our older cat died, and I moved out and took one of the cats, then got a job. So each of our cats is suddenly completely alone. If I had moved into my own apartment instead of my parents house I would probably have gotten another cat to keep her company. and see my avatar? He kept the white one I kept the black one

How is everyone? August 2015

yes, I am 8 months post op now and my loss has slowed down drastically. It's still going down but much slower. can't complain though, I've lost 175 lbs so far -
that's great! don't forget to walk as much as you can. It makes recovery better
-
Absolutely. With weight loss surgery PCOS usually clears right up and any other weight related infertility issues go away. My dr actually recommended getting a backup birth control for the first year post op since your body becomes fertile pretty quickly but before the one year (or some say 18 months) mark it would be risky to be pregnant there is a whole sub board on this site devoted to pregnancy after surgery that you might find helpful

Just bought a bunch of bras off the clearance rack at walmart and they are GREAT. The quality is just as good as ones I paid more than triple

not looking down, just stating a fact. I chose not to shop there because their prices were too high for me. And NOBODY here is looking down on fat people the fact of the matter is that plus size clothes ARE much more expensive

Hacks, Tips and Helpful Notes

Be prepared to discover that a Protein shake you liked pre op will be undrinkable post op You might cry...a lot....for no reason You will NOT be able to get in all your Water and protein at first Don't compare your loss to others and don't get discouraged if you don't loose as much as someone else did. Get some small plates. I use tiny bowls from the asian supermarket that are actually for dipping soy sauce You will be very tired. Going to the bathroom and back will make you want to take a nap -
In understand that plus size clothes would be more expensive but I also do think they are taking advantage of plus size people. I refused to shop at Layne Bryant because the prices were simply outrageous. It is common in my local store to see tops in the $50 range or higher.

How much missed work post surgury

Sophie, is the fatigue from the extreme calorie deficit or from the physical surgery? I've been having the same question on time off, I'm glad this was asked probably both. Your body is recovering from surgery and you are running on a few hundred calories a day -

I would imagine the thing about tv might be so you pay attention to what you're eating and not on the tv. But I've never heard that before. For me I NEED to eat while doing something else otherwise I eat too fast -
So today I told him that whether he was there or not I was coming by saturday with my dad's truck to get some things. his answer......."well that fucks up my plans a bit" my response..."well divorce fucked up my life a bit" before I moved into my parents house I was out of work and he would always complain about the apartment not being spotless (he didn't seem to notice that I did all the grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, packed him a lunch every day, or that every day he came home to a hot dinner and a cold beer) his favorite phrase was "what do you do all day?" well I was at the apartment last week and it looks like a tornado hit it!! also funny story. Last month was my dad's birthday and I made a pie for dessert. My dad eats a bite and says "oh man, your husband is an idiot for leaving you" haha

Single with dog; Sleeve in 2 weeks

I had two cats and when I was just chilling on the couch I kept a pillow on my tummy. one of my cat's favorite spot is to curl up on my chest, so that way she could still do it and it didn't bother me. -
sorry for posting in the male board but I know how you feel. Just the other day I got on the scale after a while of not checking my weight and I had only lost 1 lb and I felt dissapointed. But then I started to mentally scold myself..."come on, you lost 175lbs in less than a year, what are you disapointed about?"

if you have a desk job you would probably be fine after a week (assuming you had no complications) But if you can it wouldn't be a bad idea to take two weeks just be aware that for a while you will have extreme fatigue. I was not working when I had my surgery and for the first week walking to the bathroom and back completely wore me out. During my second week I went to Walmart and had to cut the trip short because I just didn't have the strength to keep walking
