Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I have a cautionary tale for you, my fellow post-surgery mates… Last night I was in a hurry to get to my son's football game. I warmed up my dinner, a kinda pita pocket hamburger (it was a "diet" food, low carbs/sugars, etc., frozen section of Kroger)… I was excited because I am now allowed regular foods and this was the one of the first "regular" things I've eaten in over 6 weeks. So! I. ate. too. fast Just as I was sitting down to watch my son's game, I felt it… a pain in my lower chest… some of my dinner was stuck. I did not chew well, like I know that I am supposed to do. It was so awful. I broke out in cold sweats and, though I could breath, could not stop gagging. I had to go to the parking lot, hide between cars, and vomit my saliva (heard it referred to as "the foamies"). After about the third time, a small piece of food came out. The piece was not anything that I would have had a problem with pre surgery… honestly, it was tiny by normal standards. Even after I threw it up, I continued to vomit saliva, that I was unable to swallow, for about another 5 minutes. Following advice I found online (yes, many others have experienced this horrible experience, apparently), I have been on liquids only for 24 hours. From what I have read, no long term ill effects can be expected, but inflammation is common. I knew I needed to take small bites and chew, chew, chew, but I became over confident and rushed too damn much…I've learned my lesson, for now! Hopefully, my own little post-bariatric surgery nightmare will help you guys remember the rules and avoid such an unpleasant (and scary) situation in the future.

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

I was getting the pulling sensation maybe 4 or 5 days post op I'm 3 weeks post op today and haven't had the pulling sensation in 2 day. I think it may be the way we get up. My incisions got achy after a productive day I think it's from all the movement. I had this, too... As with sylviaflowers, it went away and I have not felt it in a while, but took about 3 weeks... Thinking about you today @@edie091371 and hope your first day back goes smoothly! What a bummer about your boss… such ignorance, so frustrating. Good to know that you are able to leave all that behind if she is not supportive… you do not need that in your life right now!

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

That is a good plan… I work part time for a real estate agent (desk job) and went back to work on Thursday of last week. I work from 10-3. It is more than just the fatigue, etc. that was a concern for me… It was planning my food and liquids while being away from the house and on a schedule. I did find, however, that it is easier than when I was on all protein shakes and liquids, pre op! I grabbed a 32 once smart water, a triple zero yogurt, and a third option (protein shake, soup, ricotta bake, etc.) and I was good to go! Good luck on Tuesday, but I know you'll do great! It sounds like you work at a great place and they will be flexible with your needs, so that is the first step

@@60&goin4it - From everything I've read (and I think we all can say we've read a lot!), that is very common! When you consider you probably put on 5 just with the extra fluids, etc. from surgery and have lost an additional 4.5, that sounds great! Your doctor is happy, too, so that is wonderful! Your positive outlook and big heart have inspired so many on these pages (myself included!) and this post is yet another example of how your support and feedback helps us all… we all have encountered (and will continue to) this same challenge and will remember your perseverance and positivity during these slow times… Thank you for sharing!

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

@@edie091371 - I'm kinda embarrassed to say, lol… kinda a desperate for something different - or something familiar, more like it - kinda recipe. We all got home from one of my son's football games and I made them protein pancakes (Kodiak Brand, lots of protein, little sugar)… well, there was one left and I had not eaten myself. I grabbed the remaining pancake, put it in a bowl with Fairlife skim milk and some sugar free syrup and went to town with my handheld mixer stick… and voila! pureed pancake, lol! I scarfed it. It was only about 1/2 a cup, but I ate too fast and too much and was uncomfortable for awhile. Still learning

    Quest chips?

I just bought these on amazon! Have not tried them yet, as I am still on purees, but they sound too good to be true, don't they, lol. A ton of protein, low sugar… what is not to love?! I am curious about responses, because I figure I must be missing a negative somewhere… like how they actually taste I found the sea salt at Randall's, but bought bbq and sour cream on amazon… I'm an optimist, what can I say

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

The sipping is hard!!! It seems like it takes up your whole day just waiting for the next sip! I can tell you I'm 12 days out still sipping & am looking forward to my Dr. appointment tomorrow to see if I can have some refried beans or just something besides my shakes!!! I should be on soft food!! I don't have a puree phase like some do after 1 week. I don't know what the difference is. I had the gastric bypass. Do you go into a puree phase? You could call the Dr. & see if he would allow something pureed to help make it to the next phase. Have you tried a little of sugar free jello? Or chicken broth? I have the Unjury chicken broth & its helped me make it this long having something savory to sip. Hoping for the best for you!! I have the Unjury chicken flavor too (you drink it warm) and it is pretty good
