October List of Surgery's
doggiedaddy replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had some trouble with this... Wish they had a bariatric setting, lol... I have been ignoring fats because I am just eating the usual safe bariatric foods for my stage, but will pay more attention to that when I branch out more, food-wise. I set my protein to 68... I was told to get at least 60g of protein a day and I have read between 60-80, so I just randomly picked 68. I set my sugars to 32. I've learned that anything more than 8g of sugar per meal makes me start to "dump" (I hate that word, btw), so i figure no more than 8g x 4 meals, so 32g a day. I just generally watch my carbs because they often fall in line with sugars (but not always!). My doctor kept his advice pretty simple... get in your protein, preferably shakes and plant proteins (he is a vegetarian, lol), and be careful of your sugars. I have trouble with meats now anyway, can not seem to chew beef and ckn very well, so i have been eating a lot of legumes, seeds, etc... He is big on "legumes"! Some of my favorite things... -The Good Bean salted chickpeas -Salted pumpkin seeds -Trader Joe's coffee cold concentrate (I mix with Carbmaster Milk (kroger) or fairlife milk over ice and sometimes add Unjury unflavored protein powder to it). The concentrate is easy and almost 70% less acidic than regular coffee. I have trouble with reg coffee now -Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella sticks dipped in Rao's or Mario Batali marinara sauce (both of them have low sugars) -Simple Mills muffin and bread mixes (had to order these online, but they contain all the stuff that I would use if i made mixes at home... almond flour, cauliflower, etc. low sugar/carbs Just made the pumpkin muffin and i have one each morning! -Practically the only thing I am really jonesing for is pizza... i've made the chicken crust pizza and, while it is good, i am not sure that will cut it for me all the time. regular pizza is out, but simple mill's makes a low carb/sugar pizza crust that I am going to make this weekend... hopefully is is good! -trader joe's sugar free choc covered almonds -diet snapple k-cup lemon iced tea -i'm sick of protein shakes, but i still have premier protein vanilla once a day to get in my protein for the day -I can not get on board with protein bars (quest are supposedly the best for us). I have a stockpile of quest but have only been interested in them when I am out and about and have nothing else. -oikos triple zero yogurt is AWESOME.. tons of protein and taste good, i am jsut tired of the flavors and wish there was more variety. -heb carries the Enlightened brand ice cream bar... i LOVE chocolate mint! only 5 sugars and it has 7 grams of protein! low fat and high fiber... awesome!!! -

Hi Edie I have three kinds, lol... Two of them are Nature's Bounty brand (I get them at Costco)... One is gummies (2 a day, i think) and the other is softgels (3 a day). I like them both, both try not to do the gummies until I've had all my protein for the day and I try to limit the pills I take since I am already taking so many vitamins, so I hold off on the soft gels too... both have varying amounts of biotin. It is a "melt", the kind you put on your tongue and let dissolve instead of swallowing and is 5000 mg. I've attached picture... I actually swallow pills and have not had any issues. Most of my vitamins are capsules and are not small. I just can only take so much of the chewables I LOVE my viatmin C (Calcet Lemon Soft chews - had to find them online), but it has 5grams of sugar so I only take them once a day and take my bariatric advantage vit c chews the other two times for the day. ok, for some reason i can not find the "upload pic" option, but the biotin "dissolve/melt" is by Natrol. -

I live in scrubs most of the time. It's like going to work in really comfy pajamas but it's hard to see any change in fit until it's pretty major. I put on jeans today for the first time in a long time and I couldn't tell you if they fit any differently. BUT...oddly enough...my bra fit is weird now. Comfy, and the 'girls' don't look any different, but looser... yes, my bra! totally notice a different in the bra… my underwire used to flare out on the sides and poke me in my arms (had to wear it with some of my work shirts), but now it sits nice and flat almost -

I usually have oily skin, but my face and neck are dry and itchy. I get in my protein daily, stay hydrated and even take biotin, but everything is out of whack, I guess... I'm a month out tomorrow... -

I feel ya… just when i think i have things down pat, i get thrown for a loop, lol… I'm currently stressing on the lack of variety in my foods. I am able to eat all foods and feel like i am always rushing and just grabbing the same ol things not good long term… -

could you be hitting ketosis post-surgery as opposed to pre-surgery? Sounds like "carb flu", especially with the metallic taste in your mouth… -

Also, had not done this before, but I took my measurements this morning. Always hate doing that because I am never sure how snug to make the measuring tape, but figured it was a good idea to start and that I might see more results that way instead of just looking at the scale. My clothes are looser, but I have been wearing stretch stuff for so long, all my "big" clothes still fit, just hang more than usual -

That is wonderful!!!!! I still fit in my same jeans ;-( ! Oh well its coming off just slower than most!! I am in a super long stall and I am doing everything right (I think, lol!)... I have even been walking a lot more. The only thing I can think of is that I am not get ENOUGH calories...?... I've been logging on my fitness pal and hope to see the scale move soon! I've lost 40 overall (2wk pre op + post op) which is great, but weight has only moved a pound or so in over a week. I am in that dreaded 3rd week, though, so hopefully this passes soon One month on Thursday! -

Yep, 3.5 weeks out here… stalled around 2.5, moved a little last week or so and now at a standstill again… I guess I just need to stay off the scale, lol! -

I ate mashed some mashed potatoes, just to get me thru my week of purees... I'm almost a month out and allowed all foods, so I don't have it now... -
Okay, more that a little miffed. A bit of advice/help would be welcome.

That is a good sauce…. Another good one for us post surgery is Mari Batalli's sauce. Very low sugars -
Here is a fun topic, we can kind of go back in time and see where we were; Last Meal
doggiedaddy replied to winklie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My "last supper" was pizza and a bottle of cabernet! Although, I'll admit, I had many "last suppers", lol… Even made a list of places I just had to go to before surgery! PF Changs Vic & Anthony's El Tiempo Shogun Chick fil A … Unfortunately, the list is long! I agree, this is a fun topic and, as you mentioned, it is interesting to compare our mindset from before to the way we feel now… I gag a little just thinking of all these foods now! Not saying that I will never crave them again, but I've learned so much in this journey and know those foods will never have the same hold over me again. -

I have a cautionary tale for you, my fellow post-surgery mates… Last night I was in a hurry to get to my son's football game. I warmed up my dinner, a kinda pita pocket hamburger (it was a "diet" food, low carbs/sugars, etc., frozen section of Kroger)… I was excited because I am now allowed regular foods and this was the one of the first "regular" things I've eaten in over 6 weeks. So! I. ate. too. fast Just as I was sitting down to watch my son's game, I felt it… a pain in my lower chest… some of my dinner was stuck. I did not chew well, like I know that I am supposed to do. It was so awful. I broke out in cold sweats and, though I could breath, could not stop gagging. I had to go to the parking lot, hide between cars, and vomit my saliva (heard it referred to as "the foamies"). After about the third time, a small piece of food came out. The piece was not anything that I would have had a problem with pre surgery… honestly, it was tiny by normal standards. Even after I threw it up, I continued to vomit saliva, that I was unable to swallow, for about another 5 minutes. Following advice I found online (yes, many others have experienced this horrible experience, apparently), I have been on liquids only for 24 hours. From what I have read, no long term ill effects can be expected, but inflammation is common. I knew I needed to take small bites and chew, chew, chew, but I became over confident and rushed too damn much…I've learned my lesson, for now! Hopefully, my own little post-bariatric surgery nightmare will help you guys remember the rules and avoid such an unpleasant (and scary) situation in the future. -
