I don't have my date yet, but I'm aiming for mid December!!! -
Ugh why can't this be positive?
DaisyAmy replied to Soxgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry you are dealing with this negativity. You're very much like me in age and desire to make a break from this downward health spiral! You've got this! Stay strong!! -
My insurance required the 6 month plan. I actually feel that it helped me gain some tools that will help me be more successful in the long run. Best of luck to you with whatever happens.

Aw, thanks you guys. It's so nice to have a little extra support. Going to be eating spinach and steak all weekend. Maybe I'll push my bloodwork off until Monday. Ha!!!

Hi, all. My story is I had jumped through all my hoops and was smooth sailing to have surgery in July when I got diagnosed with endometrial cancer. So WLS took a back seat while I had a hysterectomy and s million tests. Blessed that surgery was my cure. Had my follow up with my gyn oncologist yesterday and was nervous that she wouldn't give me a release letter for WKS, but she was happy to do it. Yay, me! I delivered it immediately to the WL clinic. Got a call last night that they can't send my stuff to insurance for approval because my last Iron count was low (after major surgery. Duh) Ive been taking iron, but I guess it has to be back in normal range before they will send it in. Not planning on surgery til December, so I thought I had a few months to get it back up. Anyways, going in for bloodwork tomorrow and nervous that it's not up to where it needs to be yet. Tired of delays! Thanks for letting me vent!

I think if you approach it from an "I've had some tough times, but I'm ready to take on these changes to better my health" perspective, you'll be fine. My evaluation was about three different questionnaires that the psychologist scored and then we discussed. Lots of questions about support, attitudes towards health, eating and dieting. Then, she discussed the results with me and sent me on my way. Not a big deal. Best wishes to you

Sleeve after hysterectomy for cancer
DaisyAmy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, all, I'm new here. I've been in the process to prepare for my sleeve since Jan '15. Opted to do it to hopefully rid myself of diabetes and fatty liver. I've lost 40+ pounds and successfully jumped through all the pre surgery hoops. My 6 months of weight loss program for insurance purposes was done this summer and I should have had the surgery late July or so... But instead, I found myself on the operating table having a total hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. Thank the good Lord, they were able to get it all and I have no further treatment other than frequent follow ups. At my pre op appt, the surgeon said I could have the WLS as soon as 6 weeks after (!) if I was up to it, as long as I didn't need chemo or radiation. I'm looking at doing it around Christmas. I'm a speech therapist for the schools and could get 3 weeks off then fairly easily. I don't want to screw up another summer, and I just want this done already. I've worked so hard and feel really ripped off!! I need to ask my gynecological oncologist for a release letter at my next appt, but they just switched doctors on me, so I'm really nervous the new one won't give me the clearance letter. My question is, has anyone else had other abdominal surgeries close together??? I feel like the sleeve won't be quite as bad as the hysterectomy. I had laproscopic plus a bikini line cut. Thanks for listening. Looking forward to reading all your stories, too. -
Sleeve after hysterectomy for cancer
DaisyAmy replied to DaisyAmy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for your reply. I'm so glad they found your cancer early, too! I'm definitely still doing the surgery. Even with all the cancer appointments and craziness, I still kept up all my weight loss appointments. My case manager has been an angel throughout. And I still lost weight! Granted some of it was my sick organs, but still! I'm hoping my WLS will be laproscopic. I think that's what they usually do where I go. My hysterectomy could have been, except my uterus was too large and they didn't want to cut it with the cancer in it. -
Did anyone feel pressure by surgeon to so bypass instead of sleeve
DaisyAmy replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I went to my initial seminar, we were told that it was our option, but the sleeve was what was overwhelmingly being chosen and performed. -
If you haven't had surgery yet what are you most afraid of?
DaisyAmy replied to mimorison's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fear is they will find cancer. I just had a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer (all removed, no further treatment needed, thank God!). But I have "cancerhead" now, and feel like it may just be lurking anywhere. -
Feeling so unsure.

I've had a few negative Nellies on my journey, too - even my gastroenterologist who was the one who suggested it in the first place!! Once I started losing with the guidance of the weight loss center, he told me to reconsider!! But, I'm 42. I've lost and gained often during my life. Time for a more permanent change. I feel very confident in my decision and I just nod and say thanks for your thoughts when people try to talk me out of it. People judge. People think it's the easy way out (holy cow, it's not easy!). People think you will fail. Sadly, some do not do well. But. We are here for us. I will be healthier. I will succeed. My weight loss center offers psychological counseling as needed and a support group. Do you have access to anything like that?, Best wishes!
