So I’m chiming in here my husbands family are immigrants. They hail from Peru all of them are small like all of them except his brother and my hubby. And we have food allllllllll the time. We have desert alllll the time but the difference is the meal is the least interesting part of our gatherings we play games we do karaoke competitions we make pretty much anything into a compitition including jenga and their kids eat juice snacks chips but also veggies real food too it’s so different to see the way food is handled in his family versus mine

@Creekimp13 I’m not jumping on anyone here just responding to your original comment. My nutritionist has advised us to not do Keto after surgery. It’s not sustainable and the brain actually needs about 40-50 net carbs to even function properly mind you don’t take my word on this this is just one of the largest studies done by Johns Hopkins over a 30 year period. Also Ketosis is really bad for keeping your blood levels safe especially for former diabetics

Hey guys so I’m willing to be an acountabilibuddy for those just starting also I’m on my preop diet but I get ya know real food just no starches I’m doing this for the next 4 weeks and 5 days then clear liquids only for 2 days. So far the diet is going good and I’m finding I’m not hungry for carbs or sweets because we get things like protein ice cream and really compared to some of you guys like honestly I think I’d stab something if I could not chew for two whole weeks keep me posted on yalls progress and anyone who needs to vent I’m here

For anyone anyone out there who thinks they are too old we just had a 77 year old woman reach her goal weight and it was 3 years after surgery so no age isn’t a factor ok -
Hope my nutritionist doesn’t hate me

So I’m terrible about logging food just plum awful. During my 4 months I didn’t log a single bite and honestly I should have because I maybe could have prevented the 5 lbs I gained mind you I was still approved and I have a surgery date but I was not the best rule follower now that it’s here I’m on it like I seriously need to go rescue my binder from the car but other than that I’ve been sticking to the plan and I’m already down 1 pound -

Sooo I’m a big fan of chik fil a their nuggets are on plan for me and I can get a large water for free and their fruit is fantastic. Also learn to modify food and be picky get creative. Go to a sub shop and get an order of meatballs with cheese and sauce get a large salad with grilled chicken on top I like ceaser my self ummmm ask for meatloaf at family restaurants and sub out the potatoes with broccoli food isn’t something to be avoided and honestly you’re not gonna be able to live on protein shakes for all of eternity so go venture out -

So I am at the veeeeery end like I have my date and we submitted to insurance already. My best advice become best of friends with that nutritionist. Have her email memorized. We’re special in our group because of our Facebook page where we can private message her at anytime. Also learn your way around your kitchen. Just basic stuff. My favorite new gadget is my air fryer it makes everything. -
Time to be honest!!!

I’m on the same plan where are you I’m at gbmc in Maryland with dr Timothy friesen -
So I’m 5 weeks away from surgery and my advice to all you guys get a wholesale membership. They have big bags of boneless skinless chicken breast that I pretty much use for everything. You can get protein drinks there you can get frozen veggies. You can get all the zero drinks which if you hate water like me are a lifesaver. Don’t be afraid to drop say 10 bucks on like broccoli. If it’s frozen you can find so many uses and this is coming from someone with just my husband to feed. Also moms and dads please don’t feel guilty about changing your kids eating habits my parents let me eat nothing but junk and that’s how I got to where I am it starts at home with you guys

I would honestly rather have a life saving surgery then die in my sleep at 30 because that’s where I’m headed. I’m going downhill fast I just turned 27 and it’s a miracle that I’m still here I won’t make it to 30 at the rate I’m going. So I legit told my surgeon do anything in your power to save my life weather it’s 1 surgery or 10 I don’t care just I have too much riding on the next 50 years

So my doctors programs preop diet is zero starches for 3 weeks ive decided to do 6 I started the moment I left my final appointment. But I’m sitting on my couch about to chow into some chilly cow ice cream which is 100% on plan and I’m excited for my dinner I’m throwing my hat in the ring to attempt cloud bread and make a burger -

Guys please someone remind me that a preop diet that lets you eat actual food is not I repeat is not a starvation diet I’m supposed to get 1500 calories a day and all the protein and I have the options of things like protein ice cream and I can have a single actual piece of dark chocolate. I’m exactly 5 weeks from surgery and I’m so impatient and ready -
So I love sushi and when I am allowed starch at month 6 or am in mattince whichever is the latter I plan to reintroduce that sushi is a great way to get in protein carbs and veggies so I plan to eat it

natural vs added sugars
newmebithebypass replied to Chrisb428's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So our requirements which I know different than others are under 5 grams of sugar. But we remove sugar alcohols and fiber. And it has to be under 15 carbs a serving. Also we can have 3 servings of fruit a day. 1 per meal as long as we get in our protein first but we have to wait until week 6 when we can also have salad -
So I can’t tolerate tap water ever it’s the Flouride also the more minerals in the water the more my body likes it now I’m pre op I can only imagine post op how picky I’ll be about water post op. Ps the flouride this is a mutated gene my family has we’re allergic to it makes us horribly sick to our tummy’s like my grandma couldn’t brush her teeth with anything containing flouride same as my dad and me

Chiming in here so go see your doc lamictal is a very tricky med my mother in law who has been practicing for 35 years barely prescribes it because of the very high chance of Steven Johnson syndrome. Up until this time you were fine but just go. Also you might want to try trileptal it’s the same mechanism in the brain and safer for rny patients. -
I plan on getting either a half or a full sleeve when I am done my journey of a Phoenix with a yellow blue and pink background and my dads handwriting I love you incorporated in it somehow
