Tiffany, I hear you!! I lost the bulk of my weight before my surgery. After my first fill, it was like nothing happened. I just had my second fill and I can tell a difference in what I can get down. For me part of the problem seemed to be I was eating anything I wanted, so then when I got my second fill, it was a huge shock to my system. I hate the weekends! I find that I walk around and think about the things I can get down. Usually if I am at work, I do better. So now I am trying to be going somewhere all weekend. (which my kids love!) I am really afraid because I am a teacher, and with summer coming, I wonder how I will do. I find that so much of my hunger is head hunger. I just don't know how to get rid of it, so I bury my head in the sand! Are you exercising? I am not. I say that I am going to start, everyday, but I find a reason not to. More importantly, I am not going to beat myself up for my wanderings in the kitchen. Even though I am eating more than I should, I am not eating nearly as much as I used to. For me that is the victory right now. I want Gastric results with Band risks. We will get through this!! We will lose more!! We can do this!!

In honor of Gibson, I thought I would tell you, and hope you share any irrational fears you have.........here is mine. In our town, the tornado sirens go off at 10am on the first Tuesday of the month. My fear is that there will be a tornado that day and I will not take cover. I am also terrified to go to the Grand Canyon. What if we stop at the Grand Canyon and my kids are so excited to see it, and they run to see it and they go over the edge? Too risky. I have some more about zoos and spontaneous human combustion, but I will save those for another time.

When my DH and I were first married, we lived in an apartment that had paper thin walls. We had new neighbors and when they came, they brought their roaches with them. We decided to move, and didn't want the roaches to come with us, so we were really careful about boxing something up and then taking it to the new place. Once we were in the new place, I was still terrified to see a roach. Once night I was unpacking, it was hot and I had been sitting on the floor. I got up to go to bed, and there was a roach attached to my leg. I started screaming and my DH told me to hold still and he would get it. It turned out to be a penny that had been on the floor and it had stuck to me. My DH teases me still. He calls it "the illusive Penny Bug". It was scary!!! I am also afraid that my kids will fall into the Lion/Monkey/Bear pit at the zoo. I could happen. I watch the news.

Do any of my fellow Double V's do the myspace thing?
mhazelrigg replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok, here is mine. Like so many others, I am full of pictures, but not many of myself. myspace.com/meechalala -
Irene, there is NOTHING irrational about that. They are scary and gross looking. I think I might add that to my list.

I think that you are forgetting one major part though. People only get killed in the garages when there is scary music playing in the background. No matter where I am, if that creepy music starts, I AM OUT OF THERE!!! That my friend is not irrational, that is survival.

My dog is a huge beggar too!! She is a Lab/Rot mix. We call her a RotandLab. Not a judgement call, just her breed. Once we were having a potluck with our neighbors and we made a big pot of chili. When we came home, I noticed that the crock pot bowl was on the floor. There was no mess or anything. I thought it was one of those situations where my kids were looking for something in the cupboard and moved it out of the cupboard and set it on the floor, and then forgot it. Later my hubby asked where the other pot of chili was. He said, "I made two batches. A regular one to take with us and a hot one to keep for us." I knew right then. I called the vet and he said that it was too late to give her anything. There was not a drop of chili in the kitchen. She licked the whole thing up. (Good dog!) Unfortunately, what goes down, must come out! Needless to say, she was pretty miserable for almost a week. Plus, she had to live on the deck, because she was so stinky! It wasn't pretty. We bought a special power washer for our deck that fall. I told her that my theory on food is that it should not hurt, on the way in or the way out. But she doesn't listen. She still begs for chili! -
Ezma, I am with you girl. I thought last week that I was going to go crazy. I put on a pair of pants and I was so proud, because they fit well. Until I looked at the size, they were a 22. Which was really bad because I have been in a 18 or 20. Then when I got on the scale, it had not moved. I think, for me, I want Bypass results. I have friends that have GBS and they lost so fast. I have to keep telling myself that the band is safer, but slower. I got a fill this week, and I can tell a huge difference, so I am hoping that next week I will have a better week. But when you have people at work tell you that they can tell you have lost, that is a huge victory!! I have decided that I am going to stop stepping on the scale twice a day. I think that I am going to measure those spots that I know I want to lose, like my hips/butt/thighs. Let's see if the measuring tape is a liar too!

Hi all. I have to say, I do not like the new way the site is set up. I am having a hard time finding things. But my motto has always been "change is BAD". Trying to get past that! I had my fill on Monday. I was pretty good and did liquids that day and mushys the next. I have felt pretty full. I went to lunch on Friday, at Subway, got the wrap. It had a hard time going down, so I just at the chicken. Then on the weekend I was out of town, so I had to eat out. Ate a half of a grilled cheese and some cottage cheese. Next day tried a pancake, ate about half. I think that on the weekend, it is not a matter of being hungry, it is just being around the kitchen that kills me. But I am feeling full and that is great. I go back to see Sid on the 19th. I am happy with my restriction for now, but we all know that can change at any time. For me, it seems like I am expecting GBS results. And I have to change my mind set. I think I just want it to happen so bad that I get impatient. Anyway, I am happy to find our thread again! Only 26 more days of school!! Then I am free to meet for lunch. (Unless I teach summer school!) -
This brings up the question of why wouldn't you be wearing your tiara all the time? I only take mine of to shower. And even though my band is working, I am sure no one wants to see whats in there!

A of all, Gibson, I love you!!!! B'ly, I love the kitty litter cake. As I teacher I have a ton of different fun stuff I like to do for my class. I will have to try the kitty litter cake. Last but not C, I have spent countless nights thinking of great places to hide money in my house. I have found that the shower rod is a great place too!! And there is no actual feces to deal with.

Do you have words that irritate you?
mhazelrigg replied to Gibson's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hate it when people say, "Where you at?" A PREPOSITION NEVER GOES AT THE END OF A SENTENCE. As if it weren't bad enough, there was a whole verizon commercial that used it as their catch phrase. I think that is the teacher coming out. Also, if you break your toaster, it is broken, not broke. I am broke most of the time, my toaster has no need for money. Whew, that felt good. Thank you. -
How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
mhazelrigg replied to Wendell Edwards's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill almost 4 weeks ago. I went on a vacation, which my doctor said was fine, three days later. I was able to eat whatever I wanted, no problems. Then this week I am in pain when I eat. I go for my next fill on Monday. I started feeling restriction yesterday! What gives? I have tried to stay off the scale, but it is as engrained in me as eating. It is what I do when I wake up!! I have not lost any since my fill. I am trying to stay patient, and I know that I am 31 pounds better off, but that is NOT enough for me. Today I am at the weight that I have been at for about 3 years. I gained 30 lbs in the 6 months before my surgery. URGGGGGGGHHH. In the last 3 weeks, I have been struggling with Diet Coke and White Bread. (Croissants to be exact.) I get upset about my weight, eat a croissant or two, wash it down with a diet coke, get on the scale, get upset, eat a croissant or two.....you get the picture. But then yesterday, I had a croissant, and it hurt. I am at a loss!! -

In the morning or in the evening. I work in the morning, so if it is then I will have to catch up after May. But in the evening I can see. I am a teacher and I usually can't do much until summer!! And let me tell you, after the last few weeks I am having, I am counting the days!! I think that my fill might be kicking in. I am feeling more restriction in the last week than I have felt in a month! -

What time are you going to Cracker Barrell? Here is another thing, I have not had much restriction and then the last two days, I have really felt it. Today I was craving a cheeseburger, and I could only eat about half. But when I went to the buffet on Easter, I had little if any restriction. What gives? -

Becky, I called last week and they said that they had an opening for Thursday at 2:30. But I don't get off work until 3, and then it is almost a half an hour drive. So, I will wait until Monday. I really want some restriction. I think that another problem is that I am not getting enough Water in. I am going to really work on that this weekend. I have noticed that my pants are bigger even though the scale is not gong down. I think my scale is a liar!! I am going to start walking too. Now that it is nice out, I am going to get out there and get my dog a little excersise too!! How is the restriction? Are you really feeling it? -
Hi all, I have a question about fills. Why do we have to do liquids for a while after the fill. I had my last fill, and I did liquids that night and part of the next day, but then I forgot and ate solids. I am hoping that I didn't do some damage to my band, because I really have lost much, and what I did lose, I gained back. Also, as long as I am being honest, I usually set my pop out at night so it will go flat, and the last couple days I have been drinking it right out of the bottle. Still fizzing. HELP!!!!!! I am going right back to the things that I did before!!

PLEASE HELP!! I am a huge CHEATER!!
mhazelrigg replied to mhazelrigg's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OK!!!! I am back on!! I am getting another fill on Monday. And even though I have a chicken dinner fund raiser on Tuesday, it is JUST food. There will be more of it. At another time, not right after a fill. I didn't go through a surgery just to give up. I can and WILL do this. I will go buy the foods that are right for me, and get rid of those that aren't. (As much as I can without my DH and kids killing me!) Thank you ladies!! -

Becky, I am so jealous. I called to see if I could get in on Monday, but they said it was a crazy day. I have to wait until the 14th. At work we are having a fundraiser on the 15th and I will be on liquids. When I called, they said that I might be able to get in this Thursday, if someone cancels. I am eating like a horse!!!! -

Becky, I don't feel like I have any restriction, except if I am trying to eat a muffin. Gets stuck everytime. You would think that the pain of it would make me stop eating them. Sid told me the same thing about weighing myself all the time. But it is part of my daily routine. The hardest times for me are the weekends, because I keep walking by the kitchen, and then I snack. And the Snacks aren't bad, it is just constant. Sorry I couldn't make it to Denny's. It is my oldest son's birthday. Not that he really wants to spend it with me since he is 13, but I thought I should be around in case he and his friends wanted a ride somewhere or something! I am going to call Sid's office and see if I can move my date up for my next fill. Everyday seems like an eternity to me when I am waiting for a fill. Let me know how yours goes. -
Here is a thought....what if sex makes you gain weight? I told my husband that and he is sure that it is just another consipracy for women to get out of sex. But I told him, you can never be too sure and it is better to be safe than sorry.

I have to tell you guys, I HATED GETTING MY FILL. I hated feeling the needle "pop" into the port and the feeling when he added the saline and then when he took it out to see how much was in there. It is almost enough that I don't want another fill. Plus, I didn't really feel much, if any, restriction. I have another fill on April 14th and I am nervous. Anybody have 2 fills and feel better after the 2nd one?

Hi everyone!! I have some happy news.....THERE ARE NO 2'S IN MY WEIGHT ANY MORE!!!! I was gone for a week, and unable to weigh myself daily, which Sid said I shouldn't do anyway. And when I got home, I stepped on the scale, because I knew that I had over indulged, and it went down 3 pounds!!! I was so happy!! It almost made up for all the money I spent. Almost!
