I'm 3 weeks post op and anxious to get back to CrossFit and start lifting again. I know I will have to start over as far as weight, but it can be done slow and steady! Brandon, you should definitely look into a local CrossFit gym in your area. Everything can be modified per person. Just take a Water bottle with you and sip small during the workout. That's what I did before and will continue to do after. I am worried too, about possibly passing out or something or getting dehydrated, but we just have to make sure we get our fluids in! Another tip is to eat something with Protein about an hour before you work out. Even if it's just lunch meat or some type of shredded meat. Then eat again within an hour after the workout.

Anyone go through Tricare Prime?
NewmaM83 replied to Sarahcarrasquillo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, it is odd about the letter! A local friend of mine had the surgery early this year (also Tricare Prime but different doctor) and she didn't have to write a letter nor go through all of the clearances I did. I'm just glad that part is over and done with, and surgery is within sight....for you and me both! -

My pre op diet is soft foods- cottage cheese, creamy soup, shakes, yogurt, etc. Basically all the soft foods you can have in those first 2 weeks after surgery. Congrats on your date! -

Dermatologist/Endocrinologist question...
NewmaM83 replied to a new begining's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@a new begining Do you have an update about you hair and WLS? I recently received my approval for surgery. I also spoke with a dermatologist today and was diagnosed with Androgentic Alopecia. He stated my hair would grow back after it fell out around the 3-4 month mark and stated more than once it was just temporary. He said for my hair now, there are three options I can try together: Men's Rogaine (at least 2 times a day, 3 times a day even better), birth control pills, and Spironolactone. He said these would need to be taken long term to achieve the best results for my hair. I'd love to know an update about your hair and your decision on surgery! -
Congratulations!! I received my approval letter in the mail today! I'll be calling my surgeon's office on Monday to find out what my final steps are, and set a surgery date!

Anyone go through Tricare Prime?
NewmaM83 replied to Sarahcarrasquillo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Tricare Prime and received my approval letter in the mail today (it was submitted 5 days ago)! I was really worried about being denied. My BMI is right above 40 and no co-morbidites. Do you have to submit a personal letter to Tricare stating why you would benefit from the surgery? I did, as well as getting clearances from my primary doctor, nutritionist, psychiatrist, pulmonary, and cardiologist. I don't know if my surgeon will want me to do anything else prior to surgery.. I'll be calling first thing Monday to let his office know I was approved and hopefully have a surgery date soon. -
Yes, I was expecting the worse haha! So glad that part is over though. All I need to do is to get lab results back, write a letter to my insurance company stating why the surgery will benefit me, and get a few years worth of medical records. Once I do those, I have to call my doctor and get an appt for them to make sure I have everything done on the checklist, then we wait for approval and a date! Gosh I hope that doesn't take long. Maybe it will be around the time yours is!

My hair is extremely thin and baby fine; its gotten worse over the past few years. You can see my scalp easily. I either clip it half up or use a bobby pin to keep the growing bangs out of my face. I'm nervous that after surgery I would lose a great deal of hair, if not all, if it is already this thin. I recently started Biotin (10,000 daily) but haven't noticed any change except for the massive daily headache. Any suggestions?

Just to follow up incase anyone searches this post for info! I had the ABG today. I was dreading it... palms sweaty, pulse racing! When she stuck me though, I didn't even feel it. It lasted about 30 seconds and then done. It makes you a little light headed but thats about it. I guess it all just depends on the placement of the artery and who is doing the procedure!

I am having the ABG test done in the morning. It has me extremely nervous! I don't like needles but tolerate getting my blood drawn from the middle of my arm. My wrist though? It gives me the heeby geebies thinking about it lol! I don't have a surgery date yet but this is one of the last clearances to complete, along with a chest xray and breathing test (blow into a tube or something like that)!
