My hubby said this the other night when I decided to eat some popcorn and a handful of grapes before I went to bed. I had gotten hungry, so instead of making myself a meal or eating cookies out of the cookie jar, I made this particular food choice. He must have thought that I had fallen off the weight wagon because he hasn't been seeing me eat like that since before the band. My goodness, those words sure did hurt. All the sudden, I was fat again. In my mind, for a millisecond, I was that insecure fat woman who had food as my feel-good friend. Thanks hubby. You just pushed me to try even harder to prove that I can do this.

This feeling is very normal. Believe me, after the doc puts that band around the top of your tummy, it (restriction) hasn't gone anywhere. Remember to drink your protein first then other good food choices. Eat slowly and carfully not to drink until 30 min afterward. You'll get hungry a couple of times and may eat more than you should. Stick to your good diet food plan and you'll be fine. Hang in there..happier smaller days ahead!

Did anyone else 2nd guess their choice?
bullpen87 replied to westcoastmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was a trade off for me. I just worried about my weight/health problems as I continued to fight the weight issue. You generally only ask those questions once or twice. You learn what you can or can't eat. It works really well. The band is helpful and mindful to you. Always telling you to make good choices. That's worth it in the long run. -
my heart. I was told if I didn't lose weight, my sleep apnea would not get any better and even with the cpap machine, I would continue to stop breathing. My heart would stop at night and continue to go out of regular beat thru the day. My weight was slowly killing me.:frown: No more cpap, heart rate is improving and hopefully for me, a long life ahead.:tt1:

First fill coming up...scared
bullpen87 replied to bibo07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's need need to fear. I have had my second fill recently and it really didn't hurt at all. A bee sting perhaps describes it best. The best attitude will carry you through this. You are doing really good and if you just get 2 or three cc's (or even less) it will be routine. Keep making good food choices and chew your food into mush and you'll do great. I'm proud of you and keep going...it's so worth it.:tt1: -
March 27, 2008. I got bad news. The rest is up to me. Totally me. Doc feels like the band has helped me lose any "excess" and the rest of my weight will be lost by sheer determination. The band will help me stay on track but I am going to have to exercise harder, walk farther, eat healthier and make good choices from now on. I have a feeling this isn't going to be easy. I've not giving up yet. I've gotten this 30 pds off of me and I want another 30 gone as well. I shall fight this battle just as all other banders do..one day at a time.

The only time that you would feel "good" is when you were asleep. When I went to bed in the past, I thought about how big I was. When I awoke, I instantly thought, I'm still fat. If wishing could melt pounds, I wouldn't be in lapband talk today. It has been a slow process since November but I am very slowly seeing results. I'm grateful for every pound lost. I woke up this morning and told myself, "you are smaller than you were". I guess being awake isn't so bad after all.:cool2::sleep:

Productive burping. the air difference in your digestive system needs to come out one way or the other( if you know what I mean) I have never been a burper so I tend to have the "poots" daily.

One thing I found helpful was any family member willing to lend a hand with dishes, laundry, cooking for the rest of your household. I would have been uncomfortable without all my good help. About a week later, I was slowing and carefully getting back to doing those things for myself and for the family. Good luck!

I admire you for making a life changing decision for yourself. Believe me, I was once in your shoes and so far, I would do it again. To me, it really is worth it because I am worth it...good luck

Congrats on your small BIG victory! My victory came when I was sitting in my car and realized I didn't have to pull the seatbelt ALL the way out to buckle it. I actually have a couple of inches to spare now..Keep going and best of luck!

As of today my wife and I are down 400lbs
bullpen87 replied to Frank's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
An amazing feat you both have accomplished!! I am in shock! A true happy ending if there ever was one.... -
Thank goodness for the posts. Thank you for warning me about the productive burps, excessive farts, eating too much and sliming. Thank you for the rules of thumb on protein, chewing gum and water hydration. Thank you for the successes on clothing, exercise and emotions of accomplishment. Thank you for being there just to say hang in there or congrats on your band. This site is the second best thing to happen to me. The first is my lapband. Thank you to all...

No gum...imagine if it got stuck...lap band makes that opening awfully small for something like gum (which doesn't break down like food) to pass. I haven't had any gum in my mouth since before surgery. Breath mints from now on..... good luck and praises to you for trying to kick the butt.:biggrin2:

Tanning and Swimming
bullpen87 replied to amhancock's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the tanning bed the day I got out of the hospital. I was very careful in getting in and out of the bed. Swimming I would wait about six weeks of surgery date or better yet, refer to your doc. Good luck to you! -
Help! Sharp pains 1wk out
bullpen87 replied to success4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have those type pains as well. Twitches and quick pains random at times also from my shoudlers to my belly button. They would come and go and over time they finally went away. Congrats on your band! Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life!:sneaky: -
I'm 5 days post-op, any advice?
bullpen87 replied to eejaydiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery! You are on your way to a whole new you! You mentioned advice...yes..stick to you post op diet as close as possible. This time is critical to not messing up what you have already worked so hard to get through. Sugar free jellos, carnation instant breakfast, clear beef or chicken broth, sugar free popsicles are a good recommendation. My experience has been a great one due to the fact that I have followed my doc's orders about my diet. Good luck! -
How much weight did you lose in pre op diet??
bullpen87 replied to BandedInNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my preop diet three weeks before surgery. I lost 17 pounds in that time. It was great motivation! -
It may be acid. During my band surgery, my doc repaired a hiatal hernia that earlier hadn't shown up on the preop tests given to me. I personally had that symptom that you speak of before he repaired it. I'm totally guessing but I would definitely talk to my doc about it. It may not have anything to do with your band specifically. Good luck to you and God bless...

Pre-Band Eating Habits? HELP!
bullpen87 replied to southerngirltx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your life hasn't been any different than most of ours. Whatever the method of overeating, the band will at least slow you down. If you want to lose this weight bad enough, you'll prove them wrong just for the joy of it. Good luck to you!
