    Hospital stay

Good luck to you all. I was 3/28. Started my journey in August last year, had to have a hysterectomy 1st due to some masses I had, so it's been a crazy journey for me but worth every minute. Preop and post I'm down 112 lbs and have never been happier, still have more to lose but enjoying my journey. Here for all of you, even willing to meet in person to become support buddies, it helps when you have friends who understand what you are going through. !!!!!

I was in 2 nights. You can't drink 1st night, on swab to keep mouth wet. Then they have you walk as much as possible and start sipping 1oz or 2 at a time next day. Dr comes to check on you and got released 2 days after surgery. They basically just want to make sure you are tolerating liquids and that your bladder is emptied from catheter. I had Dr. Brethauer he was great. If you want some local support, be happy to be buddies.
  5. March bypass here as well. Down 57 since surgery 3/28 and 102 total with preop liquid and watching what I was eating during beginning appointments. So happy with my decision, I feel so much better physically, more energy. What's a typical day food/drink wise for fellow March RNY's? And exercise? I know everyone is different, just curious. 6. Thankful for this post. I am about 3 months post op. And my loss has slowed down to about 2 lbs a week some none. My NUT told me to increase calories by adding granola to yogurt, eating nuts, 1/2 whole grain English muffins with breakfast etc. I of course looked at her like she was crazy, you want me to add carbs to get up to 1000 calories?? That's how I got where I started. But she said as long as I get my protein, incorporate some veggies and minimal carbs or healthy fats to add calories I should be fine. Especially if I want to start more strenuous exercise routine. I was so hesitant because I am scared if falling into old habits, but I will trust her and the process and try to add more healthy fats and a few carbs here and there and see if it changes things.
  7. I am only @ 11 weeks post-op and already enjoying the following NSV's: 1. Back, hips & knee hurt so much less when walking now 2. I can walk up the steps to my 2nd floor apartment with ease now, if I have to make multiple trips to carry groceries up, I do it without getting exhausted, before this I would have to rest between trips. 3. I am 3 sizes smaller so far 4. Everyone tells me I have more pep in my step, that I glow, and I am so much happier I smile all the time now. People noticing is a great motivating booster. 5. I admit to not using my bipap every night, but I can tell I don't need it much longer !! Will follow up with sleep doctor soon. 6. Starting to see & feel my knee bones. My arms are slimming. I am starting to feel my hip bones when laying down. 7. And new NSV today, I woke up with a stiff neck, was rubbing my neck to my shoulders and I felt my shoulder bones !!! I don't know if I can remember feeling that in over 15 years Loving this journey to a healthy me. Yes surgery sucked, I was in pain for weeks after, I have stalls (oh the stalls), it isn't always easy, I'm not perfect at fluids, Protein & exercise every day. I have some people who don't support my decision and sometimes I just want something I can't have (well my head wants it, lol) but I wouldn't change a thing about my decision. Why do people bash weight loss surgery?

I have been disappointed to find out that my sister is talking about my decision behind my back. She told my niece my day if surgery when my niece was excited for me that she shouldn't be because she has known me her whole life and I wont exercise and I'll be disappointed. Then found out tonight that my sister told my Mom she didn't understand why I couldn't just eat the same way I am now and lose weight that way without surgery. My Mom defended me of course and tried to educate her in how wls works. .... what makes it worse is that my sister is over weight as well and fair to say she is larger than me. She pretends to be supportive but talks behind my back. Im like gee I don't know you've seen me diet my whole life have you seen the weight successfully come off and stay off? No? Ok well guess what is now and I feel great I made a well educated decision to make the rest of my life healthier and more fulfilling. So disappointed in her.
  10. Depends on insurance plan but mine was good for 3 months

When will the "full" feeling return?

I have to say that's one definite perk about the surgery that I love so far is I don't have to worry about that horrible full feeling at least not right now as long as you stick to your portions you'll never feel stuffed or full you'll "feel satisfied" and it will last for hours and as long as you keep drinking your fluids and getting recommended Protein in the intervals your NUT gave you, you'll never realize that you're hungry. NSV

Today was 8 weeks since my surgery on March 28. My clothes have been getting extremely too big on me and I realized in a picture that was taken with the family over the weekend that I actually am starting to look sloppy because my clothes are just hanging so I decided to go look for at least one pair pants and maybe a couple of tops that I can wear with a bunch of different things to try to get away with them for a while. ..... So I grabbed a couple pairs of pants and couple tops one size smaller went to the dressing room and much to my surprise I actually needed to go down another size I started out 1st of this year in 4x 30/32 tops and 28/30 3x pants. I am now a 22/24 top and bottom. Can almost get into an 18/20 top. I can't even begin to describe how excited I was, I was almost in tears in the dressing room from excitement. ..... Definitely motivating for me. The scale may not move too much sometimes since surgery even though I am down 33 pounds in eight weeks total 85 pounds since 1st of year, but the inches go down. This has been an amazing journey so far and this has been the best decision I've ever made in my life I still have a long way to go but I'm enjoying every minute of it.
