Waiting period between surgeries
numeby2017 replied to numeby2017's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks all. I know it's for the best so that I am able to heal again properly and not be in any unnecessary danger. The wait is just driving me crazy lol. Especially after I followed the WLS prerequisites to a T before the pelvic masses were found throwing a wrench into it all. But I will be patient. -
Finally back on schedule
numeby2017 replied to Kristin7676's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy to hear your story is working out for you. I was lucky enough to have them find my masses pre_op, I met with an oncologist last week and he sent me for test to see if I have cancer and I see him next week to discuss surgery removal of the masses, mine are huge both size of footballs. He said he would talk to my bariatric surgeon and see if he is willing to do a shared surgery as well. So I'm hoping but won't know until next week. Then of course I have the worry of what they find when remove masses but he will have pathology on hand to test for cancer in the operating room to see if both ovaries have to come out. So I'm scared, but blessed that God led me on this WLS journey, without it, I may not have ever known about the masses until it was too late and they caused me real problems. Everything happens for a reason. -
Final pre-insurance submission step question
numeby2017 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone know if insurance will require me to do the 90 day supervised plan again if I have gotten clearance from the nutritional, psych, just waiting on medical clearance due to abdominal fluid and the specialists are taking FOREVER to review my ct scans and stuff to determine the cause and see if I'm safe to proceed. Frustrating if their busy schedule will derail me and make me redo the 90 day plan all over again. Nothing submitted to insurance yet until get medical clearance. -

Dr. Has me doing the 90 restricted phase instead of 6 months. Just had my 2nd visit with NUT today (1st follow up since initial consult) and I am excited that I lost 15 lbs on my own so far. They have me goal of 30 lbs so knowing I am 1/2 way there and still have 1 more NUT visit before they submit to insurance gives me hope that I'll meet the 30 lb goal. Just wanted to share, anyone else out there in the 90 day restricted phase?? I have had gallbladder ultrasound, labs, chest xray, I have a sleep apnea test next week. Any thing else I should expect after my sleep study and final NUT visit before they will start the insurance submission step?

Ok, now just waiting for Dr. to receive and review and contact me, hopefully this week. I also had my last nutrition visit Friday, she cleared me so I'm cleared for everything but this liquid in my abdomen so praying it's something simple so I can move forward -

Still trying to figure out what's causing liquid in my abdomen, I waited 4 weeks for an appointment with specialist only to be sent for more tests cuz he didn't know either, so frustrating and afraid it's going to ruin my 90 day plan. I get a CT scan tomorrow, we will see how it goes from there because I can't get cleared medically until they figure out the fluid in my abdomen -
I was told by my doctor that they saw fluid in my abdomen on my gallbladder ultrasound. So I have to see a liver specialist for a consult to see what is causing it to see if it delays or deters my bariatric path. Anyone else have this or know what I can expect, I know everyone is different just looking for any other experiences

I can't wait to.....
numeby2017 replied to bbrookmedic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stand up doing weekly presentations at work without secretly hoping the 30 minutes goes by fast because my legs, back and feet are in pain from standing ..... Walking without my back pain and sciatica acting up ..... Walking more than a block without getting out of breath ..... Not fearing booths at restaurants or trying to be the 1st one to arrive to make sure we get a table ..... Flying without upgrading to 1st class since seats are 3 inches wider and asking for a belt extender (1st class is cheaper than 2 seats which most airlines will make us "passengers of size" purchase) ..... Being able to bend over to put on shoes or socks without tummy being in my way ..... Being able to walk up my stairs to carry groceries up without wanting to pass out from exhaustion ..... Wearing nicer clothes that fit instead of whatever we are stuck with in our size ..... Wearing cute jeans, I miss jeans ..... And boots, especially this time of year ..... Mostly, just being comfortable in my own skin, feeling healthy and having a better quality of life ..... There are plenty of other emotional reasons such as making ex's eat their heart out or making all the rude people on past who have made comments about my weight, but at the end of the day, my main goal is to be healthy, the rest are perks. And I can't wait !!!!! -

I'm still pre-op so no healing yet and I have no pics up so thinking this is a generic post, but in any event, thanks. -
Does anyone have Aetna? I just started the process and have been told if I am medically cleared and have 3 nutrition weigh in weight loss attempt visits within 90 days Aetna will approve at 90 days otherwise I have to wait up to 6 months for them to consider me. Wondering if anyone else has Aetna and how their process went.

Aetna. Was told my insurance requires everything within 90 days or else I have to do a 6 month program. Hoping we can do the 90 day, she seems like a good advocate for me so I feel hopeful, rest is up to me to get some pre-op weight off. -

You will see most on here use NUT as short for nutritionist. I just started my appointments on 8/21, had my surgeon consult, psych testing, 1st nutrition visit and this Friday I meet with a medical weightloss specialist. After that I have 2 follow ups 9/29 and 10/30 with my nutritionist. After which she said they will start the insurance submission. And then it's the waiting and hoping/praying game. Let me know how your appointments go, nice to have someone going through same medical facility, perhaps we can share our experiences and make sure we are getting the same advice, information -

Want RNY but surgeon may do Sleeve if I don't lose enough abdomen weight preop
numeby2017 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon recommends RNY, due to my bmi over 50. However I carry a lot of abdomen weight and if I don't lose enough pre_op he advised if he feels while mid_surgery that's it's safer for sleeve, he will do that instead. And I have to sign off that I trust his judgement call in operating room. I'm scared I won't lose enough and this may be my outcome even tho I feel I'll be more successful with RNY vs. SLeeve. Anyone else have this or have encouragement that someone of bmi over 50 can still expect good weight loss from sleeve? -

Thank you all, I am still in my 1st phase of visits and nothing has been submitted to insurance yet, the surgeon did say he would go into operating room with 100% intention to do RNY because he believes that is best choice for me as well. But he advised if there wasn't enough room to move around to get the RNY done he would do sleeve for my own safety and can go back and do RNY after I dropped some weight. And he said he's only had to do that a few times out of the thousands of surgeries he has done, but that he has to let me know it's a possibility. So maybe i am worried about nothing, he is just giving full disclosure. -

Thanks sounds like my NUT knows her stuff too so far she has scheduled me 2 follow ups within 90 days for total of 3. I was already cleared by the Psych and met with surgeon already. Hopefully by blood work and ekg come.back ok and after 90 fills days it's smooth sailing. Here's to hoping and praying. Thanks again.
