  1. Oh Cookies and chocolate, pastries and candy. It is time we parted ways. I have fond memories of you melting on my tongue and and crunching as I chewed down on you. You swept me away from the tumult of my daily life. You were there for me when others were not. You have always been my safety net. But this long relationship, a co-dependent one a best, has destroyed me. Destroyed my confidence, my love of life, my love of myself. Tomorrow, when I start my liquid diet, I say goodbye to you. And it is with a heavy, heavy, heart. I fear that there will be nothing to replace you, to fill the void you have filled for me all these years. But it is time, dear friends, salty and sweet, gooey and crunchy, that I say goodbye to you and start on my journey to a new and better life.

    Weight gain after surgery

Folly I agree with you. I think it's a slippery slope to give so much praise to people's after pictures. Of course they have worked so hard and we want to applaud them!! But it seems like it has this underlying message that before you didn't you look great. And when someone does gain some or all the weight back- then what? Is the message they do not look great? We are all beautiful in every shape and size. It's how we feel inside that really matters. But I know - that is easier said than done.

    Going through surgery single

Thanks for the support - I guess I am not a very independent person - or at least I haven't been for the last 18 years of my life! This seems like very scary decision and process to do alone. I do need to join some face to face support groups - and of course use this amazing site as a resource. Thanks!

    A goodbye letter

Thank you all! I realize that at the bottom of all this, I'm scared. Scared of what will be there when the food isn't- having to feel the feelings. Give me strength because I just ate my last "free" meal tonight!!

Sept date I am all set

I am Sept 17th. I start the liquid diet tomorrow and I'm freaking out - it just seems impossible. I will miss the food!
  7. Scared about pre op diet. How can you feel full on a liquid protein shake? How did you get through two weeks of it??

I too had two weeks of liquid diet before my surgery and while yes I did have some headaches and hunger pains it is really doable. You should be able to drink anywhere between 4-6 protein shakes a day and reason for the protein shakes it so it keeps your fuller for longer. You can also speak to your nut or surgeon about having clear broths inbetween those shakes as well. Stay strong cause in the long run it is worth it for you will have a safer and healthier start to your journey. Good luck!

It was actually far easier than I expected. I did find taking time drinking each shake it seemed to work better than if I drank it down in a hurry.I did make mine with ice in them which made them seems thicker and again they took longer to drink. It is worth any hunger you go through to reach the goal of surgery. Good luck and congratulations on making this change in your life.

You can do it! After about 2 1/2 days your hunger really drops down too. Hang in there!
