    Mood taking a dive

Glad to hear I'm not alone! I was excited to do this surgery and didn't expect mood dives afterwards. Kate why are you going off Prozac?
  2. I was sleeved on the 17th. I woke up every hour during the night because I had to pee. And everytime I woke up I walked a lap around the hospital floor. Then a friend came in the morning and we walked about 10 laps. When my surgeon came to check on me she couldn't believe how well I was doing and when I told her how much I'd walked, she said that is why you are doing so well. Obviously every body is different and recovers differently but this is my 6th surgery and the one thing I have learned is walk walk walk! Good healing to everyone,
  3. Hey - are you walking around a lot? I know it seems like it doesn't make sense but moving can really help get rid of gas and help move the digestive tract. Good luck!
  4. This seems silly but I'm on full liquids now - can I still drink Clear Liquids with them or do I have to wait 30 minutes? Or is that only when the solid foods appear? Thanks!
  5. After 6 full months of monthly visits with my surgeon, a cardio, Pulmonologist, endocrinologist and PCP clearance, psych eval, blood work, endoscopy, pre op testing, insurance approval, 2 week liquid diet, I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow! I can't believe how much work I put into getting this surgery! And really the hardest work is ahead of me. I am so hungry and my surgery isn't until 4 tomorrow so I have to be hungry for a while. It's hard. But I know this will get me closer to my goals, and closer to the person I want to be. Tomorrow night it will all be over!

The date is set for arms and abs!

What a drag!! I hope they accept the RN idea.

    Pre op binge

I was following my NUTs advice for 10'days but tonight I just could not handle the hunger pains and when I went to the kitchen for soup I ended up eating crackers and butter, a plum, and 2 pieces of white bread with mayo and cheese. UGH! It really scares me because if I can't control my eating now, how will I do it long term? I have 5 more days until surgery so I have to get back on track.

    Pre op diet HUNGRY

Now I'm sick of protein shakes! I just want this to be over. But of course this is just beginning...it's not like after the surgery I can suddenly eat whatever I want. Sigh.

    Sleevers in NY

I've been tempted to buy some clothes but I think I'll wait. I guess I'm pessimistic!

Thanks for sharing- 6 months I can do! Post some pics when you are healed!!
  11. My NUT told me that unless I'm willing to count calories I shouldn't bother having the surgery. I'm about to in 10 days. Have you found this to be true? Thank you!
  12. Hello wonderful community! Just a few successes from today I wanted to share. This afternoon I took my daughter and her friends out for pizza. I ordered a plain salad (Ok'd by doc to do veggies only with lemon on such occasions...) and that's all I ate, even with the amazing looking pie right in front of me. Tonight, after back to school night, I went out for drinks with some friends . They all had 2 beers each and I had 2 unsweetened ice teas. This is my 6th day on the pre-op diet and I think I can do this! (8 more days to go....) How are others doing with temptations??

I have a question about plastics - I read somewhere that you are supposed to wait 12-18 months after your weight has stabilized to do surgery. That is so long! How long have people actually waited?

    Sleevers in NY

Mom26 good luck! She's great, isn't she? New_start I'm also at NYU on the 17th! We should try to find each other once we are in our rooms!

    Pre-op successes

Yes- I had a headache and felt light headed when I would stand up. Had another experience this morning - there were Dunkin donuts for a parent coffee this morning and I just sipped my tea. One thing this pre op diet has showed me is how often I am exposed to high calorie food and drinks!! It's everywhere!!!

    My Turn

Wow! What a perfect analogy for the wls experience. You can do it- go down that slide!!

    Pre-op successes

Thanks! The first three days were really hard - I was a total grump. But after that it gets much easier!! Good luck!

    And so it begins...

I started 6 days ago and was feeling really woozy and low energy the first 3 days. I think I was eating 1/4 of the calories I usually eat so my body was in total shock. Today is my 6th day and I actually have more energy that I have in years!! Stick with it - you can do it!!

    Pre op diet HUNGRY

I had a piece of cheese today. It was sitting on the counter because my mom had made my kids dinner(which is fantastic) but didn't put away the food. It was the best piece of cheese I've ever had. It's really hard to adhere to this diet when there is food around!!

    Pre op diet HUNGRY

Thanks for the encouragement! It's true - in the scheme of my life this 2 weeks is nothing. But being in the middle of it is challenging, to say the least! I've been reading a lot of the books on gastric sleeves and it's helpful as well.

    Pre op diet HUNGRY

Thanks all for the encouragement and the info. Not sure I can do this. If I'm this miserable now I can only imagine how miserable I'll be afterwards.
  23. Until recently, I had been in an 18 year relationship, married for 10 of them. Sadly, part of the reason the marriage ended was my huge weight gain. I've read a lot of posts about amazing and supportive partners/spouses and I wonder what it is like to go through this alone. I do have close friends but it's just not the same and most of them live other places. Where did you get your support? Does it feel lonely? I have to admit one of the big reasons I'm doing this surgery is so I can find a partner again. (Where I live in NYC no one would touch me with a 10 foot pole (or anyone for that matter, unless they are a size 6 (?) or below!)) Anyway just looking for inspiration from some others!

    Going through surgery single

@@OutsideMatchInside Thank you for your thoughtful reply - I DO have kids so I won't be alone and will have to prepare dinner and lunches and wish I had someone else to take that on while I get into my new habits. I do have a dog and he is the love of my life right now! I couldn't get by without him. And my mom is here for the surgery, so I'm really not alone alone, just single alone, which like you pointed out, is different. I live right around the corner from a great Y that has a new pool and I plan to start Water aerobics ASAP (and the nice thing about that is usually it is older, less judgmental ladies!). I guess I need to just hunker down and do what I need to do and stop feeling sorry for myself!

    Going through surgery single

@@FocusOnMeNow Wow. What an empowering response! I love what you are saying and it so true - it's got to be about me first. And I agree with you (and your mom!) that most likely it was the relationship that was the problem. I'm so quick to blame myself. I can't tell you how much better I felt after reading you reply and I went to sleep singing Whitney! Learning to love yourself is the greatest love all. Amen and thank you.
