I'm on day 4 of my pre op diet. I'm allowed 3-4 Protein shakes, Greek yogurt and non fat creamed Soups. I was so hungry today I almost went completely off the diet. I hate Plain yogurt so I added Splenda but I think that made me even more hungry. Is anyone else going through this? Also, does anyone know why the diet is these specific types of soft foods? Why no applesauce, etc? Is the point to lose weight only or to clear out your system? Thanks!

Get so sleepy after I eat.
Shainadelphia replied to towanda825's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also get food sweats after eating! And I don't feel tired but I start these intense yawning episodes around 3 pm that I can't control! Sometimes I think it's because I haven't had enough protein, but who knows. I get plenty of sleep at night.. -
mini binge - anyone else?
Shainadelphia replied to ForLfKlovr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had posted something similar a couple of days ago under "help-scared" because the same thing happened to me. I am only 4 weeks post op and I was eating candy and Cookies for 3 days. Today I did not. We've been in such a restrictive mode and it's bound to happen that we want sugar. In fact, I want to find a healthy way to incorporate it into my eating. I'd rather have it planned for than episodes where I go overboard and then feel bad. So many people write about not having anything sweet after WLS and I just don't think that is sustainable. If you build it into your plan in a healthy way and don't make it a "bad" food I think it is much less likely that you will end up eating in an out of control way. And this way you can plan for something really good- not bad tasting cake. Don't be too hard on yourself! Yes you have to be diligent but you also have to be kind to yourself, and forgiving. Feeling bad and ashamed is not going to get you where you want to be. Give yourself encouragement and compassion and you can do this! -
Hi everyone. I'm 4 weeks post op and am really scared of my behavior. For the past 3 days I have eaten Cookies or candy. I'm not cleared to eat bread or Pasta for another week and am still eating pureed foods. I have a binge eating disorder - it's impulsive and dissociated eating. I am in therapy once a week AND working with a eating disorder specialist once a week and I have been for years. I can sit here and write that I PROMISE I won't do it again but when I'm in the situation I can't control myself. Writing this, it sounds so passive - of COURSE I should be able to control myself - who else is in control if not me? And this is why I'm scared. The NUT associated with my surgeon is basically non existent so I found someone near by that works with bariatric patients and I see her on Tuesday. I hope she can knock some sense into me, but I can't believe I'm sabotaging my efforts like this. I want to lose weight SOOOO badly. I'm so scared of what I'm doing to my new stomach and I'm scared I'm going to gain back the 30 pounds I've already lost. I feel so helpless. Like all of us, I've tried every diet, everything. And this was a last resort and I'm failing at this as well. Any (kindly worded) advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Help - scared

Inner surfer girl- Your replies are always so thoughtful and full of good advice. Thank you. Just to clear this up- I never have "bad" foods in my house. However, I live in New York City where every other store is a bakery or deli filled with candy and since I walk everywhere it's very easy to just pop into a store. -
Tummy! And feet - already sloshing around in my Extra wide shoes. It's fun! And today two people stopped me and asked "have you lost weight?" I guess it shows.

Why is it important to get 64 oz of water?
Shainadelphia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand the basic concept of why it is important for person in general to have water, but why is especially important for rapid weight loss! Thanks. -

This is very helpful. I find it hard to get in liquids and protein. But I need to pay more attention. Thanks! -

3 1/2 weeks post-op
Shainadelphia replied to lsubabe33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through the exact same thing. Then my NUT told me that unless you get the Protein your body needs it is going to start to burn muscle, not fat - and that lite a fire under my butt! But I did add decaf to the shakes and it really helped the taste. In fact I kind of like them now! You can do it- it's worth it! -
I am also a stomach sleeper! It's funny because between weeks 2-3 some nights were fine and then some still hurt. But now, 3 weeks out, it's totally fine. The one thing I would say though is to make sure it's been at least an hour or so since you've eaten. Otherwise it might hurt. Sweet dreams!

Since my surgery 2 weeks ago everything I eat (drink) has a medicinal/ metallic taste to it. Even Water. Has this happened to anyone else and does it go away? Thanks!
-
I did switch to plastic spoons! I couldn't stand the taste of silverware. I'll try the iced tea idea too. Thanks!

Help/ right side pain
Shainadelphia replied to drodriguez1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had left side pain but it was pretty bad starting day 5. After another 5 days it went away! However I would check in with your surgeon -
Packed up a huge number of clothes today that still fit!
Shainadelphia replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been up and down sizes so many times my clothes are all over the place (in the basement, in the closet) and packed in no particular order. I can't wait to organize the mess!! Babbs, to your question, my plan is to keep the nicer more expensive items in vacuum shrink bags. I'm going to do this for all sizes. Partly I think there is part of me that won't trust myself, but partly because these clothes are part of my history (and some I really like!) Later on I may be ready to donate them. -
I'm 6 days post-op. Not in pain and able to walk just fine. HOWEVER I feel like I am in a constant deprivation mode - I'm still on full liquids for another week and every little whiff of food smells so good. Cooking for the kids it's all I can do not to snarf down a chicken nugget. I know the health risks, and so I won't eat anything I shouldn't but I just have to know if this gets easier. Perhaps when more foods are allowed? But even then I understand how much restriction and control is necessary to succeed. I am so grumpy and even hate to leave the house so I don't have to be confronted with these temptations. Thanks.

Does it get easier?

Thanks for the info! I'm 10'days post op and I can attest that I'm no longer hungry! Whoo hoo! -
Hi everyone- Yesterday I developed a fever of 101.1 and pain on my left side and left shoulder. I contacted my surgeon who said it was probably something to do with my lung and suggested doing deep breaths and coughing. I have done that and fever is down to 99.8. But my side still really hurts. It seems to help some when I do the breathing. Do you think it's gas? Thanks!

Does it get easier?

Laguerr13 I crave tomato soup all the time! I add lemon and its delish. Thank you all for your encouragement! It makes me feel soooo much better. I got into this head space where I'm panicking that I can't do this and what have I got myself into, etc. But I can make it now. Phew! -
Anyone having trouble regulating their mood post op? I am miserable! I don't want to get out of bed, my dreams are awful and I wake up shaking. I am in therapy and have been doing pretty well until now. Anyone go through this and if so how long did it last? Thanks.

Mood taking a dive
Shainadelphia replied to Shainadelphia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the can't get off the couch phase. Been watching tv like it's going out of style! I did realize after reading someone's post that I had gone off my HRT and that may be part of it so I started back up. I'm only 3 days post op. I figured I'd be tired and achey -- just not so blue. And of course this is harder because there is no food to turn to for comfort. Just protein shakes! I can't wait for some "real" food!! Even a bite would be amazing.
