    Voice Change?

Hello all! As an ex professional singer, and current voice teacher, I thought I'd weigh in. (No pun intended) Haha Yes, if there was extra fat around the neck that would impact the resonance of the voice, affecting the quality. But that's less important as the hormones! Estrogen is released from fat during weight loss, but then there is less in the body at a lower weight. The vocal chords are estrogen receptors, so after weight loss a man might sound lower and a woman higher than when there was more weight on the body. There have been famous opera singers who have lost significant amounts of weight - Maria Callas the most notable. And it was generally agreed she lost a certain luster from her voice. Personally, I did notice a change. I did lose some of the luster from my voice as well. C'est la vie.

    help with profile!

This is embarrassing...I've been MIA for 2-3 years and want to update my weight info in my profile and can't for the life of me figure out how to do it! When I go to profile there is no way to update it - even though I see the info. Then I will post something very profound Thank you!
  4. Hi onmyway, It's a great question. I think I would probably do it again, but I also see the falsehoods in these surgeries. We are all so SHAMED by society and desperate to not feel that way that we basically mutilate our bodies to conform. I did it!! I get it!! But what they don't tell you is that your body wants to go back to the original weight. And that you are setting yourself up for more potential shame and anguish as you gain the weight back. But it isn't your fault!! Your body is just doing what it's programmed to do. I'd like to come to peace with my size. I eat well, I exercise, and that's who I am. I have not gained back significant weight but it's starting to come back after 3 years. And I have to decide if I'm going to live a tortured life of self hate or accept it and enjoy this life while I still have the privildge of being alive. All the best :)
  5. Just need to vent. It lost 83 pounds in 5 months. And this is fantastic and the surgery is the best thing I've ever done. However. I'm at pret a manger. And there are people eating these amazing salads and sandwiches and I sit here with my little quinoa egg cup (which I can't even finish) and I feel sorry for myself. Why can't I just be like everyone else? I want a nice big lunch!! I needed to complain and didn't know where else to go. Thanks

    Book Suggestions

"Stranger Here" was extremely helpful to me. She had a duodenal switch surgery but same idea.

What does "success" look like to you?

I feel freed as well! My life is not about food food food. When will the next great be? Will I sneak it? Will I wait for everyone to fall asleep? The constant, addictive like obsession is GONE. I can focus on me. On what I think is fun. On my relationships. I hit onederland last week. I thought I'd be jumping for joy but the joy has come a long time before, with this new freedom.

    Advice from sleepers

I had a hard time breathing - make sure to get an incentive spermoter! It will make sure you are using your lungs and don't accumulate fluid in your lungs. I did and ended up in the ER. Good luck!
  10. Was sleeved 9-17 at 270 lbs and am down 60 pounds. started a size 26. The time I lost weight, I was at a size 12/14 at 200 pounds. So now I'm at 210 and am still in a size 20!! Last time at 200 I was a size 12/14. How is this possible?!dont think I'll go down 3 or 4 sizes in 10 pounds!!! Thanks
  11. I don't feel like telling my new partner about my sleeve surgery. And by partner I really mean lover - not looking for anything more right now. I get keloid scaring - raised and red and ridged-so even though surgery was three months ago they are VERY obvious. So, does anyone have any suggestions of another surgery that would look similar? He is a doc so it will be hard to come up with something believable. I'm sure some will say just tell him. But I have had a lot of other surgeries and scars that I will have to tell him and I'm already very self conscious about those. Thanks.

so, is this what it feels like to be just... normal?

What a great self realization! I loved all of it. I also feel shame about the knee injuries I have - but I keep reminding myself - if I hadn't don't loss weight just imagine how much worse they would be. I love to hear these successes.

    Dress size conundrum

Update - I had already started and am continuing intense weight training and though my weight has stayed the same I have lost inches (that is how I am measuring my loss now, not the scale) I am impatient!! I want to be at my goal right now.

My sense of smell has gone bonkers.

Right! If we were back in the days of the caveman and we were starving those that had the best sense of smell to find food would out live the ones that didn't!
  15. Perfect!! Gall bladder it is!! Thanks guys!!

My sense of smell has gone bonkers.

I found this too and three months out it is still the case! In fact, I had a favorite essential oil spray I used to LOVE and use everyday and now I hate it!

    Dress size conundrum

Thanks everyone for the replies. Yes, I'm referring to the most recent time (before the sleeve) I lost weight It doesn't have to with how the manufacture labels the sizes. I know because I still have the clothes I wore at 200 and there is NO way they will fit when I lose 10 more pounds. I'm afraid I lost too much muscle and not fat. I go to NUT this week. And I did increase my exercise this week.

    Nobody wants my food!

Hi! I got tiny Tupperware containers - tiny- the smallest they make holds half a cup I believe. Then, I batch cook(just did turkey chili) and freeze half of more of it in the tiny Tupperware. Easy to reheat. But otherwise I know what you mean - I just threw out yogurt cottage cheese and even chicken. I think we need to get used to buying less! My motto used to be to stock up while shopping. But now my fridge is really sparse. Good luck!

    Eating if not hungry?

Hi! just a logistical suggestion because I was also weighing myself too often. I took my scale to the basement so now it has to be a concerted effort to get on it. Good luck!!
  20. I'm 11 days post op and for the past 2 nights I've had night sweats. I don't have a fever. I guess this could be hormone related? Anyone else experience this?

    protein bars?

I have found that I cannot get down a Protein shake in under 30 minutes and have not been able to finish them. Then, I came across a Think Thin bar that has 20 g protein and no sugar. My NUT doesn't love them because "they were created for people to eat on spaceships" but I find that with my ridiculous lifestyle they come in handy. What do you guys think?

    Popped stitches?

Def call the doc! I did develop bruises under my incisions about 5 or so days post op(and I didn't fall )
  23. I found it one of the hardest months of my life! It feels so good to make it. Well done!!

    Feeling down post op

I went through a similar phase - for about 2-3 weeks post op. It's so hard to find replacements for using food for comfort. I watched videos and got a bunch of mysteries and it helped me get through. Now I'm 6weeks post op and I feel a lot better and regulated. You can do this!!
