Slammed with a huge fee 7 days before surgery
jujubee posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm 21. Its obvious that I don't have alot of money laying around. Coming up with the $3000 (I was quoted) that is not covered by the insurance was a feat of itself. So I get this call from the surgeon office exactly one week before surgery, and their like we need the surgeons fee before friday. I was like ok how much is that (remembering that there was a $500 fee to the office that I had put aside for), on the other end of the line I hear shuffling paper. That will be 3500, we only accept cash or a cashiers check. I felt like someone had punched me in my stomach. I don' know what I'm going to do, I have three days to come up with the cash, and I don't see how thats possible. And to boot I've already survived 9 days on slim fast and water only. -

I'm having my surgery during my one week spring break. They just said to not carry heavy books for the first few weeks back to school. -
I am having my band in on the March 18th and have a trip to Hawaii planned for the 9th of May. Does anyone know if the plane trip will be ok? I tried to ask my surgeon but he is really hard to get a hold of.

I believe I will have my first fill about 3 weeks or so before I leave.

I'm getting banded on the 18th. Excited and Scared at about a 60:40 split right now. -
Man I am on day 8 of liquid and still going strong. I went to my post-op nutrition class and met two people who are alos having surgery around the same day as me (one on my day and one the next). And I am a little mad. One of them has been on the liquid diet for one day less than me but he eats sugar free pudding, and soups and stuff while I was told over and over again that I could only have slim fast, protein powder and water (which can be flavored with crystal light if I choose). I want soups, I want pudding, I am sick of slim fast and crystal light. And the other girl, she only started liquid today, she was on a cruise and got to eat real food for another week. I am depressed by my food choices and now I am upset that I feel like my request for broth should be allowed since the other people are obviously getting such an allowance for food and everything else.

I am so excited and starting to really get freaked out over the surgery. I mean less than two weeks to go and then I will join the league of bandsters and start down the path to my true self (I know she's hiding somewhere under all this fat). Now I just need to keep my cajones and last out until after surgery. I keep hearing this nagging voice telling me to keep trying the old fashioned way and I am just ready to scream "I have, it didn't work." I am glad there are others on my same day, maybe we can help each other with food choice and stuff afterwards. "Like hey I just tried mashed potatoes and they went down really well." etc. Good luck friends.

I just started my liquid diet this morning. So far so good other than the fact that I have to pee like every five minutes. I have to stay on liquids for the next two weeks and then it will be surgery day. I am really excited and really scared too. Like I realize each time I ate something in the last week that it was my last time. I need to find something to do to occupy the time I used to spend eating or getting ready to eat. <a href="Weight Loss - Diet Ticker"> <img border="0" src="<A href="http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wdOLFKT/weight.png"></a">http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wdOLFKT/weight.png"></a>

I've not only thought of telling them this but when I was about 16 or so my doctor mentioned my weight and how if I changed my diet and excersice habits I would lose the weight easily since I am so young. And me being a smart mouth told him (he's over weight too) that he should shut his mouth until he is within the ranges set for healty weight. But I stayed with the doctor and him knowing how i had worked hard with little change in weight was very supportive when I asked him to refer me for surgery.

The toughest part for me hasn't been a craving for non-liquids, I mean sure I want those things but I really want something like miso soup or chicken broth or some other non slim fast food. I thought that the 2 weeks on liquid would include things other than slim fast. I am sick of sweet slim fast. But I still haven't cheated.
