    Failure

@@byebyefat I buy my D3 Gelatin pills at costco. They are the Kirkland brand 2000 IU... $11.00 for 600 pills. These pills are very small so no problem swallowing them. I'll also pass on a fact that my Chiro/NUT told me: if I start to feel sick, take 50,000 IU's ( that's 25 of these gelatin pills) once a day for 3 days and it will usually kick whatever bug is trying to invade my system. This has worked most everytime I've done it.

    Failure

In regard to your D3 levels, I thought I'd pass on some information. My Chiropractor who is also a NUT, recommended 8,000-10,000 IU/daily. I take 4 or 5 of the 2000 IU Gelatin capsules every day and have for the past 6 years. My D3 levels always come up good...not too high or low. This seems to keep my immune system up and running well as I don't get sick very often. I just thought you might like this info. Also, sorry about the horrible bedside manner of your doctor. Sounds like he picked the wrong profession. I hope that at least he was a good surgeon and that your surgery went well.
  3. Do you think you might have the flu? I had nausea and diarrhea off and on for 3 wks and finally yesterday I feel okay. I had thought it might be something to do with my sleeve or what I was eating but my daughter confirmed she's had it for the past week, also. Others in the family just had the nausea. I was taking Omeprezole during this time but it didn't help. Just a thought. Hope you feel better.
  4. I had my surgery on Nov 17 and am now down 35lbs since beginning of pre-op diet. I started with nausea and diarrhea on Dec 14 and I can't seem to get rid of it. I felt fine before this started. It does come and go and I haven't thrown up but just feel queasy most of the time. I can't seem to connect it to anything I'm eating or drinking. I take omeprazole once a day. Is this the flu? Has anyone else had it last this long? I know that I'm having a very hard time with any kind of Protein drink as I get nauseous even before I drink it...just haven't been able to tolerate the sweetness of them since surgery. Anyway, I'm tired of feeling yucky most of the time and am just wondering if I need to change something around. I'm getting my fluids in and usually 50-60 gr protein. Also, I've only lost 3lbs since this started over 2 wks ago. Help!
  5. Thanks Frankiesgirl for your reply. I think I must still have the flu. I talked to my youngest daughter this afternoon and she said she's sick with the same stomach things again today. She's had it off and on for over a week. I keep thinking I'm over it and then I feel like crap again. Was hoping I just needed to eat differently or that it was a sleeve thing and would pass. Thanks
  6. I have a single serving bullet-type blender I bought at Kohl's for $24 that has been used most every day for the past 6 years...still going strong. The brand name is Bello. I know that FarberWare makes one that looks just like it since I purchased that for my son this Christmas. It was $20 at WalMart. You don't have to pay the big bucks to find one that will serve your purpose. I put 1/2 a frozen banana, 4 med. ice cubes, a scoop of protein powder and about 1 cup of some kind of milk in mine. It works just fine.
  7. Sorry you are going through this. Remember how the flight attendant demonstrates how to put on your oxygen mask so that you can then help others? Take care of yourself so that you can help your wife. I would get someone to come in a few times a week and then go do something you enjoy. Your wife may not like it, but I think if you transition slowly she will be okay. Have the person come visit first while you're there and then just leave briefly to go to the store. Gradually increase the time gone. As far as intimate, platonic touch why don't you take some dance lessons? I did this when my husband and I were separated for several years and it was very comforting. No affair, but fun and intimacy with the opposite sex in a safe setting. I was in no way an aspiring dancer, and truthfully the owner of 2 left feet, but it was satisfying. Also, have you read a book called "Brain Maker" by Dr. David Perlmutter? He makes a very strong connection between how our brain works and having healthy gut bacteria. Just a thought.

    Pickles

I love pickles, too! I make my own fermented dills and have been eating them since I was cleared to have mushy foods. Love them in chicken salad and even pour some of the juice in to make it more moist. After my sleeve, I can't seem to tolerate anything sweet but sure am drawn to all the savory things like black pepper, salsa and pickles.

    No Cocoa Powder?

I have been adding cocoa powder to my Protein drinks through this whole pre-op and post-op journey. I buy vanilla Protein Powder so that I can do just this...add different flavors. I also think that some people are not careful about reading labels and might think it's okay to add Nestle Quick or some other suger loaded chocolate. There's cocoa powder in all of the chocolate protein drinks.
  10. Heaviest weight 290lbs Day of surgery 11/17/15 . Weight 274lbs 1 Mos post-op 254lbs
  11. Thanks for your feedback. I will ask my doctor about the Voltaren topical. I have tried the turmeric and it "wires" me...restless or no sleep for the 4 days I took it. I used to be a swimmer and developed a chlorine allergy and can't find a public pool that doesn't add some chlorine(CA law even if they're saltwater or ozone). I really miss swimming! It kept me limber and happy. We'll see what my doctor has up his sleeve and go from there. I'm really not into taking heavy duty pain meds. I figure that once I get about 1/2 my obesity off, I'll go to my chiropractor and see if he can get this hip to stay in place.Still miss my NSAIDS, though. Patience is what this journey is about
  12. I am 3 1/2 wks post-op and can barely move now that I had to stop taking ibuprofen. Tylenol does nothing. I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back and sacroiliac displacement disorder (my hip is tilted and won't stay in place). I was not very mobile before surgery because of this hip condition but it hurts even more now to stand and walk. I would really love it if someone has information on a NSAID patch or topical. I'm enjoying the weight loss of 20lbs but would like to be able to move better and enjoy that loss. I have my 4 wk checkup with the doctor this coming week and it would be great to know of some medication to ask him to prescribe.
  13. I'm a week and a half out and onto pureed foods now. I also had some scrambled eggs for breakfast and I almost felt like I was doing something wrong or cheating. But oh my goodness, they were soooooo good. It's been a long time since I've had anything solid to eat and I'm not real sure how to go about doing all this pureed stuff. For Thanksgiving dinner I put a spoonful of mashed potatoes, one of sweet potatoes and some turkey in the blender and added some broth. Interesting. I'm determined to get my Protein in without relying on shakes. My taste buds changed so much after surgery...I can't stand the sweet drinks anymore. What kinds of things have other people come up with to get their protein down in the pureed stage without relying on the shakes? I would love to know.
  14. I had my surgery on 10/17 at 5pm......a 5hr delay from the original time of noon. I got so anxious during that 5hr wait that I'm still not sleeping well but I am one of the fortunate ones that really has had no problem with pain or gas. Right now though, the thought of trying to get some Protein powder in makes me sick to my stomach. Anything sweet sounds disgusting. Sure hope that continues as my downfall was sweets. Can't wait to get on the way to losing weight!!

  16. So, are you just mixing the powder in a cup with some kind of liquid? That's pretty much guaranteed to be chalky and yucky! Can I ask why you're not using a blender? I put 4-5 ice cubes in the blender along with some vanilla Muscle Milk and a TB of of unsweetened cocoa. Pour 1-2 cups unsweetened almond milk on top and blend for at least a minute. A wonderfully delicious chocolate milk shake. And, if you don't mind a few extra calories, some frozen banana slices make it even creamier. Like another post said, you can also add cinnamon or some kind of extract. I buy the vanilla Muscle Milk so that I can change the flavor easier. You can even add some orange flavoring for an Orange Julius or lime for a key lime pie or strawberry sf extract or???? I have to say, I don't know how some people can stomach the canned Protein shakes. I had a Premier one the other day thinking they would be good for a quick protein fix when I come home from surgery.....I thought they tasted awful. And the worst part was I didn't feel satisfied after drinking it. It may take a few minutes to make one in the blender but I think they're worth it.
  17. Skepchick...Thanks for thinking of my kids. My children are grown with kids of their own so they will probably go to the in-laws this year. We usually gather at my house for part of the main meal. I will miss that. My oldest son said we could still do that and I could just sit and sip turkey broth while they do the whole big thanksgiving meal. I'm thinking NOT! I don't know what to expect 1 week out from surgery but I don't think I'll want the stress of getting ready for a big family gathering. Anyone else up and going after 1 week post-op?
  18. I too am finding that I'm struggling with loss of motivation and excitement. I started my journey in Feb of this year and finally completed my 6 mos NUT appts at the beginning of Aug. I then had my pre-op appt and was given the surgery date of Nov 17.....I couldn't believe I had to wait 3 more mos before I was sleeved. I had a mini hissy fit in the Dr's office to no avail and still call them every week to see if they have had any cancellations. Nothing at this point. It just seems like such poor planning for them to wait until every last thing is done before even pencilling in a surgery date for me on their calendar. I feel angry and discouraged about the poor planning and the long wait. Also, the surgery is scheduled for the week before Thanksgiving, which is my most favorite holiday of all. Not gonna happen this year. I've already told the kids to forget about it this year and am sad that we won't be getting together.
