Oct 21st sleevers..
Ilovecats1985 replied to alejcerra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is October 21st as well! I'm in California! -
Yesterday I saw my surgeon for my pre-op. About 3 weeks ago I was having some blood pressure and irregular heart beat issue. My surgery is scheduled for October 21. My echocardiogram was normal but the results from the holter monitor were not back yet. He let me keep my date but said if the slightest thing pings on the holter he will reschedule my surgery. I'll find out for sure on Friday when I see my PCP. He believes the issues were caused by a new medication I had started 3 days before the problems started. Since then I have stopped the meds and have not had any problems. Anyways he gave me instructions leading up to surgery. He told me I do not need to do the 2 weeks pre-op diet. I just need to do a 24 hour liquid diet the day before surgery. I've lost 20 pounds during this process, I started out at 250. I am now 230. He told me to keep the 20 lbs off and continue to try and lose more. If I gain even a pound he will cancel my surgery. I'm over here kinda panicking, I terrified I'll gain bc it will be right before my period and my weight fluctuates about 3 pounds every month. Once I start the weight falls right back off. He also said I need to start tracking everything I eat and drink. So what are your pre-op directions?

I'm sure I'm not alone in this but there are a few very negative people in my life. I haven't told many people about my upcoming surgery. Just people who will be needed in helping me out during recovery. My husband, best friend, and ex in laws (we are still very close) have been incredibly supportive and are really rooting for my success. The day told about the surgery My ex mother in law told me she is very nervous for me but she understands, she wants to feel better, and she will be there for anything I may need her for. That was the only concern any of my supporters have mentioned. I told my current mother in law and sister in law bc I will need them to help with my husbands kids mostly during the no driving phase post-op. My two will be with grandma, I thought my husbands kids would be here the week of surgery but it's actually the week they are with their mother. My sister in law lives next door and we help each other out a lot. So my mother in law just flat out told me "it's a stupid idea and I will be miserable." My sister in law has had the same tune. My mother in law joined weight watchers 2 months ago to try to prove to me you can lose weight without surgery. Well in her two months she's lost 6 pounds congrats to her. I did weight watchers years ago and lost 60 pounds then went on to lose another 40 with just smaller portions and exercise. A year ago I started gaining the weight back and have been dieting and exercising like crazy but have only been about to lose a total of 20 pounds. On Saturday at my sons birthday party she decided she was gonna announce it to the room full of guests that I am having weight loss surgery and how she's lost weight just by doing weight watchers. I was furious to say the least. I told her when she got to point of being tired of being overweight, having all these illnesses I have, and regular diet and exercise isn't helping the weight come off then maybe she would understand where I am coming from. But I did expect anyone to understand where I am coming from bc they haven't walked in my shoes. She had the nerve to tell me I was being rude. My husband and ex in laws were pissed off at what she did and my husband pulled her aside told her she wrong and extremely rude. And should she continue to behave like this she would no longer be invited to our family get togethers. The next day my sister in law called me asking about the diet I've been on and the right amounts of protein and such bc she wanted to lose weight with her mom so they could both prove to me I am doing it the wrong way. Only weak people have the surgery. I just hung up on her and have ignored both of their texts and phone calls since Sunday. How do yall deal with these types of people?

I asked my surgeon if I could have my stomach in a jar. He said no they send it off to be checked for tumors and stuff. I hope I at least get pictures. When I had my tubs tied 6 years ago the surgeon took pictures for me.

I understand how you're feeling. I started this journey back in March. I'm scheduled for surgery a month from today. However, last week I started having issues with my heart racing and irregular heart beats. I go on Thursday for my echocardiogram and to get my holter monitor. I will meet with my surgeon on the 29th to discuss my results and if surgery needs to be postponed. I know I need to go into surgery healthy but the thought of having to wait longer is very disappointing. Hang in there. It will happen when the time is right. Hope all goes well at the dentist.

Good luck! Hope all goes well! -
I'm with kaiser Southern California. I had to do all of that and do a 12 week surgery prep class. I can't believe it's so much easier up there.

Did you pick or did you follow Dr.'s recommendation.. How did you decide?
Ilovecats1985 replied to gobeit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my heart set on the sleeve. When I met with my surgeon he agreed with my decision. Due to the conditions I have he felt it was the best option for me. -
I am keeping my surgery quiet. I've only told very few people. The people who I will need some help from post op. Other than that it's nobodies business.

Under 30 when you had WLS?
Ilovecats1985 replied to andromache's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was 26 (I always had two kids) I lost about 100 pounds without wls, I did not have any loose skin. I am now 30 and scheduled for October 21st. I need to lose about 120 lbs. I'm really hoping I don't get loose skin this time around. But I'm kinda preparing myself for it bc it will be a rapid weight loss. -
About 3 weeks ago I had a spinal tap. I ended up at the ER 6 days later as advised by my neurologist. I was severely dehydrated and I had a leak in my spinal fluid. Since then it seems like it's one problem after another. With spinal tap I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri. The medicine I have to take for it makes me feel lousy. Before I started the medicine I met with my surgeon and two days later had a follow up with my pcp bc of my ER visit . At both appointments I felt fine but when they checked my pulse it was in the 120's. They both comment on the high pulse. I felt fine I just assumed it was due to being at the Drs office and slightly nervous. Fast forward Thursday I started having heart palpitations, getting dizzy, and I was so tired. They were sporadic, same thing with Friday! Saturday they were nonstop. I woke up Sunday feeling the same so decided to go to urgent care. Well I got to urgent care my pulse rate was 135 and my blood pressure was 154/111 my normal blood pressure is around 110/70. The dr ordered blood work, an echocardiogram, a holter monitor, an appt with a cardiologist, and he gave me something to slow my heart rate. I am so worried this is gonna effect my surgery date October 21. I see my surgeon again on the 24th, I'll find out then. It's just been such a long drawn out pre-op. I'm just afraid I'm it's gonna postpone everything I've worked so hard for. Anyways I'm just venting thanks for listening

Thank y'all! I know it's best to be healthy before surgery but I've just been really bummed that it may be postponed. I started this journey in March, I had to do two different orientations, I had to attend a support group once but I found it very helpful and I now go monthly, 12 weeks of classes, meet with the dietitian 3 different times, have over 20 labs down, ekg, tons of other tests, have a psychiatric evaluation, once all of that was cleared I finally got to meet my surgeon on the 1st of September and set a surgery date. If I don't have the surgery by April I'll have to jump thru all the hoops again. I've sent an email to my PCP bc in my research I've found one of my fibromyalgia medications can cause high blood pressure and racing heart. I've been unsure about that medicine for quite some time bc it also causes liver problems which I've begun to have. It's the only medicine that has worked well for me but if it's gonna Be causing a bunch of side issues I can and will deal with it other ways.

Mind your business
Ilovecats1985 replied to LMolina1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really hate those comments. I haven't told many people about my upcoming surgery October 21. Even my husband made comments similar to those. I eat healthy but I have pcos so it's so much harder for me to lose weight. Also working out is hard for me, I have fibromyalgia. some days getting outta bed to take the kids to school is all I can manage. He shut up pretty quick when the dr explained it all to him and told him the surgery would help with these conditions and some others I have. Anyone else who has made similar comments I usually tell them "everybody is different. What works for one will not work for all. I don't expect you to understand but you should be respectful!" Most people shut up right away. -
I'm scared
Ilovecats1985 replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually at my monthly support group last night and everyone post op was saying those things kill them if they eat it. One lady was 4 years post op and still couldn't tolerate rice, bread, tortillas, and pasta -
I'm scared
Ilovecats1985 replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to stay away from rice, pasta, anything like that. I am still pre-op but my surgeon told me those foods or anything carb heavy is off limits. -
Did anyone experience a leak after surgery? What were the symptoms?
-
Oh I haven't had surgery yet. I scheduled for October 21st. I was just looking for stories from someone who experienced it. It's one of my Big worries about the surgery.
-
How soon after surgery were yall driving? My dr said least 7 days. I'm having surgery in October and I'm kinda freaking bc 7 days is a long time. I have 5 kids so we are always on the go.

how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?
Ilovecats1985 replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said its about a 45 minute surgery if everything is perfect. No gallbladder removal, scar tissue, etc. -
How long did you wait to return to work?
Ilovecats1985 replied to Gemini0621's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a stay at home mom of 5 kids. My dr told me and my husband, no driving for 7 days, no housework for 3 weeks bc the bending, stretching and lifting can tear the stitches. He also said if I try to do something and I get pain to wait another week before trying again. Now I know me, I'm gonna be going out of my mind. I had a spinal tap a little over a week ago and I've had complications from it. I've been down since the tap and I'm going insane! -
