  10. Hi everyone, I have type 2 diabetes and I had my pre op surgeon appointment just over a week ago. My doctor said he feels the surgery can offer me great results, from a diabetes standpoint. What I would like to know, Is there anyone else on this forum who has type 2 diabetes and had this surgery and what affect has it had on their diabetes post op. It is my hope that I won't require anymore diabetes medicine after this but I understand there's a chance this might not happen. Cheers, Bmoe

    Love Life After Surgery

Hi Kimmy 16, Your weight or a lack of it doesn't define you, it's the intangibles. Your favourite pastime, your quarks. The man for you doesn't care about weight and shouldn't. I have always been someone that struggled with weight, i have been an athlete and a fat person in the off season back to fat person. Never had any luck with woman, whether fit or fat, what was the problem? The problem was me or more to the point my low self esteem and lack of self confidence. 20 years ago i learned to love myself first and you will not believe what happened, i developed self confidence and a whole new world opened to me. Today i still have these confidence whether im in one of my incarnations (fat or thin) presently fat, why i'm getting bypass surgery, even when i'm overweight i am still confident. The surgery will present a new you, but learn to love you first, then it doesn't matter, new you old you, your confidence will show through. For me theres nothing sexier then a confident woman no matter what the size. Good luck and enjoy the journey. Bmoe Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Carbs post op

What app is being used to track the carbs I would like to check it out. Cheers, Bmoe You are doing really well on the weight loss and in becoming a label watcher. Very, very important habit to get in. Staying under 50 grams of carbohydrates per day seems to be very reasonable to me. The carbohydrates are almost always displayed on the labels in a way that even breaks down the carbohydrates into sub categories. Fiber is one of these. Sugar is another. Embrace those wonderful fiber grams. Shun the sugars just like you are. Fiber carbs can be removed from your totals. Our bodies don't process fiber carbs and they provide great benefits to us, both short term and long term. I supplement with fiber powders every few days. The orange flavored Metamucil stuff works great and tastes really good, too. Using your app.....and using your own savvy when checking those labels is a POWERFULLY helpful tool in your future life. I would submit that it may even be the MOST important tool any of us could add to our post-op arsenal. I'm only 6 months out and I feel that the constant awareness of exactly what I eat and how it adds up every day is a tremendous part of this war on the fat that has collected in my body over the past several years. You are doing great and approaching things with a good battle plan. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Post op and diabetes

This and the other success stories have me more optimistic then ever before. Presently with the 50 lbs I lost pre op my last A1C was 6.9 my average novo rapid usage is down to maybe 10-14 units a day usually after supper. Traditionally my biggest meal of the day. I take 2 g of metformin in a day 1g in morning And 1 g supper time. I take Victoza and invokana in the morning and about 35 units of Humilin N at night time. So it's my hope to be med free with the next 50 lbs and post op surgery date is may 31 and it's a gastric bypass. Cheers, Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  20. Hi Everyone, I had a question that has arisen after having KFC chicken for lunch. I wanted to know what foods I enjoy now I will still be able to enjoy after the surgery recovery is complete. What I want to know is will I be able to still enjoy kfc in moderation, or what about Wendy's, burger king, Fatburger Etc. I realize I would have to eat in smaller amounts but can the occasional fast food treat still be enjoyed or is it spinach and tuna for the rest of eternity from here on in? any help with this topic is greatly appreciated. I have already given up my beer and I am okay with that just wondering what else is not possible. Dumping is not an option so I am okay with not being able to have my junk food (in moderation). Just wanted to know from those who have been there, done that and have the T-shirts what too expect. Thanks all, Bigmoe99

Where are all the Canadians ?

Hello all my fellow Canucks, I am in wpg and looking for support from those who have come before us. Cheers
  22. Okay am i missing something? My bariatric team have told me you still need to eat some carbs. I was hopping people who have been through what i am about to go through, would have been able to enjoy the odd guilty pleasure. I like pizza, why scrap the topping off? I realize i cant have 3-4 pieces if pizza but whats wrong with a half piece of whole wheat thin crust pizza or instead of a burger, a 1/4 piece of a burger. I'm not asking for the world just want to know if i can still enjoy smidgens of the flavours i once enjoyed before surgery. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I know what it is like to lose both your parents. I lost my mom and dad within 11/2 years of each other and it was terrible but knowing how wonderful my parents were I know they are together in a much better place then this little blue marble we call earth. I am sure this is the same for you, stay strong better days are ahead of you.
