To weigh or not to weigh

I can stretch that measuring tape. If I stretch it far enough, I will have a 25 inch waist again before it snaps. :girl_hug: I have to stay off the scale. One day after I stepped on it and saw that plateau mark, I went off the deep end and have not gotten back on track since. Unless you have the scale with low batteries that says you have lost 20 lbs overnight, you don't need to weigh. DOWN WITH GRAVITY!!! If I were on another planet I would see what I wanted to on the scale I am sure. (***wonder if anyone thinks I am from another planet for making the statement***) Unfortunately, I have too many head issues to deal with a number on a scale. The number I see will depress me or make me happy, but either way I console myself with food or Celebrate with an ice cream cone. DOH!!

Since my cashew incident yesterday I have been doing great. I can't eat much of anything. I have a fill scheduled for Monday, but now I am wondering if I really need one. Man this thing is weird.

    My tummy hurts...

I just bought some from swansonvitamins.com. It happens to be on sale for 3.59, so I added it to my hoodia order. Figure it would be a safe bet to keep it on hand. They have it in chewable wafers, so that should be good for band issues. I swear, I am going to rattle when I walk. If I can get this stuff down.

    My tummy hurts...

Don't know if this goes under this category, but here is my situation: I ate a nut this morning... when I was tight... and it stuck. So all day I have been feeling this "thing". Took one bite of my hamburger meat at lunch and got stuck. Then I drank some coffee to try and help things. I can drink liquids just fine. At dinner, I ate some chicken, took my Vitamins, and drank my Water. All stayed down. But now I still feel this "thing". It is kinda between my boobies, quite sore, and it won't go away even with tylenol. So I am wondering. Could the nut be stuck? If a nut was stuck would it let other things pass? Or do you think that I am just inflammed from eating something so rough so early? Have never felt this one before. Any suggestions on what to do? I have a fill appointment on Monday, so guess they can look around then, but I am feeling like I need a "poor baby" and a possible solution now if possible. Thanks.

    My tummy hurts...

I am still sore today. And I THINK I chewed it well. It was one of those: "oh look a cashew" moments and I ate it without thinking. (We have a HUGE tub of mixed nuts left over from a party.) Still sore today. But feeling a little better. I don't know if the pineapple juice helped or not, but I have another can that I will drink later tonight. Just been eating slow and stopping at the first sign of anything. I have noticed that after a few bites I get a productive hiccup... if there is such a thing.

I had the biggest issue with the question: T/F: "I never lie." I told him, if I answer true I would be lieing, because I lie to my teenagers all the time. But, I don't do it to be dishonest, I just do it to keep control of my classroom. You know, I tell them if they eat the glue they will die, and that type of stuff. He told me that just by double checking my answer told him alot about me... but did not clarify that. When he called me to tell me he approved me for surgery, I asked him if I was crazy and he said no, but that I thought everyone else in the world was. But I figure everyone thinks they are the sane one in the group... right???

So I get on the scale this morning. . .

humm... I think I would have kept the batteries and the scale and ditched the hubby... "NO WAY" indeed....

    My tummy hurts...

Thank you. I forgot about the pineapple juice. I have heard about it, and used it before, for drainage. So I just found a can and will sip it down and see if that helps. It is really weird though, to hurt so badly over a stupid tiny nut. Guess I need to avoid them all together.

    Hoodia anyone??

    Hoodia anyone??

Well, I have not been able to get back on low carb since I went off the deep end. So today I ordered some stuff from swansonsvitamins.com including Chromiam and Hoodia. The lady on the phone said these are the top two things they sell for weight loss lately. Their formula says: An all-natural, stimulant-free option for appetite control Features steroidal glycosides that appear to stimulate a sense of contentment in the brain Makes a great addition to a healthy diet and exercise planI told her that I could not take ANYTHING with a stimulant, and she said that it does not have one in it. Some things have the garnicia stuff that is a stimulant, so I have to stay away from that or end up in the ER. I also ordered Omega Essential Fatty Acids, which are being promoted by the Zone diet for helping heal the body and help it let go of weight. Weird that I went thru a 20,000 dollar surgery and still spend money on Vitamins...
  13. Anyone have any good recipes for sauces for mixed veggies? I know cheese and butter works... but want something a little more healthy to go on my healthy veggies.

Ok. I bought a book off of bookcloseouts.com called Better than Atkins that has a plan very similar to the Zone plan. (Best 1.99 I have spent in a while) Both talk about hormones and how they effect our sweet cravings. One hormone out of wack, disrupts the other hormones. Our goal to get all our hormones in sync. (no not the boy band. ) It tells about what to eat to help various illnesses and problems, and what vitamins to take. Recommends a daily multi, and like the zone diet, a high level of EFA's or Omega 3's. Basically, it says we need to eat protein and veggies, MINIMUM of 10 ounces protein (low fat), unlimited veggies, and a maximum of 2 servings (regular people servings) of carbs (no processed stuff). It allows some fruits freely (Apples, cantalope, grapefruit, lemons), some limited (Berries are limited to 1 cup a day). Dairy once a day. Organic veggies are recommended as chemicals cause us problems and we need to heal. No caffeine, and NO SUGAR SUBSTITUTES. No colas, and eat adequate fiber (whole wheat carbs). The no sugar substitutes will be hard for me. But I must admit that eating a snack of 8 grapes and 5 almonds right after the last period bell rang, helped me fight off the attack today. No cheats today. Small step, but a step no less. After my fill on the 12th I just might try no sugar substitutes. Until then, I will try my shake in the morning, meat and veggies, and a fruit/nut snack. If I must have something sweet, will have to resort to splenda until I get stronger. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Will try water only (maybe some lemon) and see how long I can go with that. Another interesting point I read, is that most people can stay low carb for about 6 months. But by 12 months most have fallen off the wagon. Looks like most are in that range here. It also said that Atkins can hurt your hormonal balance, especially if you repeatedly go off and on it, and it can take a while to get back in sync if you are extremely disrupted. (Sounds like me.) So, slow and steady is a good thing. As for Scarlett, it is from the movie Gone with the Wind. Rhett leaves Scarlett, everything seems to be ending yet again for Scarlett, she has lost everything, her husband, her daughter, everything she holds dear and she looks forward because "tomorrow is another day."

Carbs are my crack. If I could mainline Ben and Jerry's I would. Found these weight control Fiber pills that are suppose to help cravings. Ate 3 last night (they were good), but boy do they have side effects. My DH bought me some whey Protein shake mix today, said that I went off the deep end when I stopped drinking them for breakfast. I have noticed that I can eat normal all day, then when the bell rings to go home I attack things. So, I think I am going to pack a snack tomorrow and see what happens. My thin for good plan, may not have been the right plan for me. Going back to what was working, and I am not stepping on the scale ever again. I have too many head issues. As Scarlett once said, "tomorrow is another day...."

Dr. C: The link from the band dr estore back home has some broken text for images. None of them are showing up. Tried to find the error in the code, but without knowing the file names... I can't help. Any little typo will do it.

I need something that will help me to stop craving carbs. A silicone band around the tummy is not doing it. Maybe if I swallow marbles it will sit on top of the band and will not let anything go thru. Think that will work? At this point... I am willing to try anything.

Throwing in the towel sounds like a great idea. I thought about it on the way home. You know, it does not matter how filled I am, if I don't get off carbs I will never lose weight. Proved that point by being overfilled and eating carb crap. I am about to hit the year mark... and have not lost like others. I know it is my fault... my failure... but I really thought it would be easier. This is a tool I know, but I wish it would turn off my carb cravings.

    Any regrets?

Well, yes and no. I am glad I have a "stopper" to help me learn portion control... but in my weight loss struggle, I have not lost a lot of weight with the band. Partially because of "soft food syndrome" when I was overfilled, and partially because crap goes thru the band so easy. It is hard to live the banded life. If you are a sweet eater, in my opinion, it is even harder. I can honestly be satisfied with 2 ounces of meat only at each meal... but... a pint of Ben and Jerry's goes down just as well... and I am a pig. The beauty of the band is that you can have those moments of splurges without side effects (besides a big behind) but the negatives of the band are that you have to relearn what you can eat (without pain), and avoid the things you can eat without pain that are bad for you. As soon as I figure this thing out, I think I will be happy with my decision. As soon as the scale moves downward, like so many other bandsters have seen, I will be happy. But until then the learning curve is a pain in the backside. Good luck.

    Polycystic Ovary syndrome

Well kinda. PCOS causes weight gain and causes us to have a harder time losing weight. I have done a ton of research on PCOS. They say if you lose weight it helps PCOS, but PCOS blocks weight loss. It is a horrible circle. They have found that low carb/no carb diets help PCOS. In my personal experience, when I am low carb, PCOS symptoms go away. The band would help you on portion control of low carb items. If you can fight the carb cravings. (Which are worse with PCOS.) I stayed low carb for years, which straightened out my cycles and helped me avoid a hysterectomy (sp?) and it also gave me documentation of doctor supervised diet under my OBGYN. Good luck with your banding...

So glad you had fun at your meeting, and sorry to hear about the PB episode. I hardly ever eat lunch out for fear of that. Makes for awkward moments at a staff get together. That wind storm was "freaky weird" as my kids would say. It literally closed the airports! I was outside and SAW it coming. Ran inside to check the weather reports, but no tornado warnings for my part of TX. Hope all is well in band land for everyone!
