VQ, I love to read your posts. You are a wonderful person no matter what that damn scale says. You inspire a lot of people... turtle or no... you are a true gem. No one can know the pain you feel, but we are all here to help with support and friendship. No one here looks at your scale or judges you by it. You are trying to be a healthier person and hormones/health issues are roadblocks for us all. Healthier does not equal thin sometimes, but we still must try. Chin up. Smile. Never give up. Modify and adjust with all the power you possess...for you are a precious person!

Being the wonderful school teacher I am, I did not want to take off work and have my lap band put in before year end. I had thought about having it done this weekend, since we have Thursday and Friday off for Easter break, but thought that would not give me enough time to heal before I had to return to work. With Prom, TAKS (state testing), graduation, awards assemblies, etc on the horizon I did not want to risk it. Then Monday night I woke up with the most horrible pain. Made it thru half a day on Tuesday and had to go home. Went to the emergency room and ended up having surgery to remove my appendix this morning. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??!! Well the good news is that I am back home, no worse for the wear. I feel 100% better even with three incisions. If my lapband surgery goes as well as this one I will have it made. My only concern now is if they will do the surgery in June. Does anyone know if they will do surgeries two months apart?

Five days out and I am on Motrin only for pain. Even shaved my legs this morning. I am sad to be stuck at home while my dh and son are at the in laws hunting eggs, but I would not make the hour trip and do well while they were all swimming in the pool anyway. Plus I am going to work tomorrow and don't want to risk anything. Yesterday I was really having second thoughts about another surgery, because pain sucks. But I need to have the hernia fixed anyway. Guess the back and forth will go on until surgery day, hugh? Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!

I have been on so many drugs today it is not even funny. If I take two of the Darvocet for the pain I start having vivid dreams. I even woke up telling someone to get their head up and get to work... been teaching teenagers way too long. Tried to only take one pill, but then my fever shows up. Doc says the Darvocet has acetomeniphen (sp?) in it and to take Motrin on top of that, so I have been "flying high" today on two pills and keeping the Motrin for emergencies. Sure hope those kids take it easy on me next week. I am going to bring every boardgame in the house, make wordfinds on puzzlemaker, and copies of those sudoku puzzles (they love those) to keep them busy. I figure that when someone "important" moves their kid to Oklahoma to graduate because of TAKS they will stop this madness. But then again, do private schools have to give it to their kids? No...(I looked it up.) Most "important" kids, those of our representatives and senators, go to private schools... don't they??? Would love to find out those stats... Well, I am getting grumpy again...must be time for my meds...

Called my doctor and the nurse said we will be fine for June. He will also fix the hernia they found when they took out the appendix. I thought it was weird that they did not fix it then, but the doctor said there would be a high infection risk. My temp has been up, and I found out that I am allergic to Lortab, so now on Darvocet. The doctor told me not to worry about my temperature unless it got up to 112. It has been around 103.7 off an on today. Said that was normal, and would probably be up and down for the next few days. I am really excited that my surgery is still a go. I would have been terribly upset if I would have to wait longer. I still can not get over how much better I feel. Would not wish appendix pain on anyone... except...maybe for the person that invented TAKS. :uwelcome:

Babies are so wonderful! Start buying diapers now... trust me on that one. I recommend about 4 packs of each size to start. You will be glad you did it, and if they outgrow the size you can exchage unopened packages. That was the best thing I did during my pregnacy... except for growing a baby that is. Congrats!

They always put me with the freshmen. I think they must hate me or something. The freshmen test on one day and the other two days we take benchmark tests (which the kids know is just busy work) play games, put together puzzles, do cross words, etc. I am a glorified baby-sitter on those days. Maybe they will take it easy on me though... I can always hope.

I was sent home today after appendix removal and they gave me lortab. I was told if the pain is from 1-5 on a scale of 10 take one tablet, if it is 6-10 take two tablets at a time. Now check with your doctor about this, but thought this info might help you.

Posted some information that I rec'd from my dr's office staff regarding his statistics, and somethings have been bothering me regarding the explainations. 1. Said that he has had 1 erosion in 2000. Caused by the person self-accessing their port. 2. Said that slips are caused by non-compliance with bandster rules and should not be "held-against" the doctor. She would not give me a number on slips. So my question to you guys/gals is this: Does this sound right to you?

Carbs also cause insulin to spike which will make you hungry sooner than Protein will. If you stay away from carbs then you won't get into that "attack mode" that sugar/carbs have a tendency to put you into. Staying below 20 grams is not too bad, I have been below 50 for three years now (off and on again though). It gets easier. (I am hoping that my band will control my portions of protein and other foods to help with calorie control, and help me lose weight.) Not eating carbs is easy now-a-days, there are tons of low carb products out there. Personally, I like my low carb ice-cream better than the regular now. Your tastes will change. Good luck!

Being a long time low-carber, I take Super colon cleanse by Health Plus. You can get capsules or powder. DO NOT take it the way it says... you will explode. Take two a day (or whatever the equivilant powder dose is) and you will be regular with no gas, or other yucky side effects. You can get it from vitaminshoppe.com or from healthplus.com Good luck!

Now, in Dr. B's defense, it was a person in his office that I spoke with. Really thinking about going to another seminar and asking him personally. Face to face is always the best.

So should I press for a hard number? Don't really want to make them mad pre-surgery or anything... but would like to know. He is a well-respected doctor that has done more surgeries than anyone around this area, and they are working with my horrible insurance (bc/bs tx). I kind of want a hard number, but afraid to ask again...

While pregnant I craved tomatoes and cottage cheese with black pepper and salt. Not too weird there, but I put it on whole wheat toast (not band friendly at all). Would think if you put some tomato sauce in with it and put pepper on it would be about the same... worth a try I guess. Jack: Ricotta cheese, Peanut Butter, and splenda is the best pancake filling ever!

Stay away from sugar. Sugar tends to make me want things faster than protein. Even one bite and I am "off" for the day. Just a thought...
-
Yeah! Your are doing great! Keep it up! Hope you have continued success and health!

I must keep tea made to stay away from the soda. Decaf with Splenda over a lot of ice...yum! Water bottles have become my friend too. I have timed it so that I drink a diet shake for Breakfast 6:30, start drinking water at 7:30 drink until 10:30, eat lunch at 11:30, drink more water from 12:30-4:30, eat around 5:30, and then start drinking again around 6:30. The only problem is going to the RR during the day.... Not too hard to get in 80 ounces when you stick to a schedule! July will be here before we know it. I am just excited about Prom. I will have my picture made in my size 28 prom dress... and this will be the last year for me to wear it! Next year, I hope to see a size 18!
-
I am waiting too... My date is July 12th. I must wait due to work schedule (I am a teacher). I really want the band in sooner, but with 6 weeks to go can't lose a day to get something into those teenagers thick skulls. We need a new "On the bridge to bandland" thread... Or maybe "waiting to exhale" thread... I have however started to change my habits to try and get ready. No drinking during meals, Protein first, no carbs, etc. Although I eat too much it is a start!

Go to currentcodes.com and look up Vitaminshoppe.com, they will transfer you to the VS site and let you know about any discounts. I was able to get a % off of a sale price and free shipping. So for 7.5 lbs of Isopure I paid less than $60.00. That was over 50% off...Great Deal!

My mother was a diabetic and used aspertame (sp?) all the time, this was several years ago as she passed away in 2002. Well she ended up in the hospital with aspertame poisioning. She literally was kept for three days to "detox" her system and when she got out of the hospital she was off of all artificial sweeteners. After that... I will take my chances with Splenda until I hear of it doing that to someone.

Deflated... Inside out... Bandless Buddies... Or, I like bandayed's "Beyond Bandland".

My sweet hubby and I met at Burger King. Dated for a month and got engaged, at four and a half months we were married. He was convinced I would divorce him after I got out of college. I didn't. At year three he was tired of saying "I love you too" so he says, "I told you I loved you once, if I cange my mind I will let you know." At year four he said he was going to leave me, but I went and trapped him (we had our son at year 4 1/2). At year 10 he said he could not leave me because he would have to pay spousal support, and keeping me was cheaper. Now he is saying he will be looking for a "younger model" when we hit year 15, we are at year 12 now. I am not too worried... Now, my man is not romantic. He writes things like, "I love you more than boats." And at year 10 I was told he loved me more than anything with a motor. But he still opens doors for me, gives me a cuddle and a "hey baby", he never gets on my nerves for more than a week or so, and I am so very happy to see him every night. I am very lucky to have found my "true love". We have to work at it some times, but most of the time we are miserable without each other. I know he is my true love because I am depressed without him, happy when he is near, can't stop thinking about him, and would not trade him for anyone else in the world... well maybe for Jackie Chan. (I LOVE Jackie Chan.. swear soon as I find out he likes fat white women, I'm outta here.) But that is ok, Hubby would leave me for Sandra Bullock.

Benicar HCT, Metformin, and Effexor... these are a few of my favorite things...
Poodles posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wondering if anyone else takes these with the band? Pharmacist says that Benicar HCT can be cut, Metformin can be cut, but Effexor must be left alone. Here I thought I could have a druggie slush for Breakfast and be done with it. -
Just wanted to post this for other people considering Dr. B. I called and asked for his statistics, and they directed me toward his website and that of lapbandsolutions. I asked specifically for information regarding his erosions/slips. The lady said he has had one erosion out of 2000 (theory behind it was because the lady was self accessing her port). I asked about slips and she was a little defensive, did not give me an exact number, but said that most slips are caused by "non-compliance", so should not be worried about. Just an FYI...

Band-Aide cure for the bandless.
