I have found that I can eat most any ripe fruit/veggies lately. Sprouts has wonderful prices, so I have been trying everything. Peaches, plums, pears, avacado, strawberries, kiwis, neches, blueberries, and even well chewed grapes. I am also happy to report that dried bananas work great at night. Satisfys that need for crunch. Now, I know we are suppose to do protein first, but nothing beats a fresh ripe peach.

Mexican is fine with me. I have been doing better with my .2 removed. Still way tight in the morning, but able to tolerate different temperatures better. Have not stepped on the scale to see how that is going, but I have noticed my "skinny" pants are working. Just in time for school to start.
  3. I have JUST FIGURED OUT that the liquid temperature or food temperature effects the way things go down. So, I was wondering if others have similar situations going on. I can drink room temperature liquids most mornings, and must have cooled/luke warm items the rest of the day. Nothing on the extreme side of temperature will go down. (Nothing cold, nothing hot.)

I think we all understand the frustration of not hitting our goals. So often others see the "gosh she has done so well and is still not happy" side of things, we forget the "hell, I'm almost there and the scale won't move" side. We are all proud for you Regina. You have worked hard, fought hard, and will get there. And if you go up and down the same 4 lbs, be thankful. You could be going up and down the same 40 lbs like me. We will all get there someday.

I am back from my EGD. Everything went well. No slips, no erosion. Down 14 lbs in a week. They said that it is probably water weight, and took out .2 cc so that I can drink in the morning. The doctor gave me the "throw out the cheetos" speach, and sent me on my way. Will let you know how things go in the morning. Thanks Regina for the good thoughts.

Glad to see you are doing well barbara. Tai Chi is so relaxing. I like doing Yoga with Rodney Lee. He is soooooo goooood... to look at. (hubba, hubbba!) I stepped on the scale this morning and have lost 10 lbs in a week. I think alot of it is water weight, since I can't drink anything most of the day. I am going for my EGD Friday, so I am going to see if they will take out .2 or so. I really want to drink in the morning. Today, even room temp things would not go down. I have resorted to non healthy items today, because I am so starved. Basically, this is what I have had today: 9 am, sip of cool coffee, stop, sip of room temp water, stop 1 pm 8 oz medifast shake (over an hour or so) 6 pm glass of room temp tea 8 pm protein shake made with whey protein and soy milk. 8:30 pm 1/8 piece of lunch meat, stop. 9 pm a dozen cheetoes, and two sugar free wafers. Drinking water now so that I don't end up in the hospital...(my pee is nice and dark.... which is not good.) I just don't get how some things go down and others don't.

    Mini gastric bypass...

I have looked it up, because of my issues with the band, but it is not for me. It looks terribly like rny, nothing "mini" about that. As for it being "reversable", I highly doubt it. Anything that has rerouting of things is not meant to be reversed. I will stick with the band. Even though I have issues, and slow weight loss, I can still remove the fill and forget about it if I want to. Or, remove it all-together and go on about life. Good luck with your decision.

Ok, I have a question, by show of hands: How many of you feel uncomfortable with every sip/bite of something? So many people say it is not "normal" and shouldn't be doing it, but every time I have a good fill, I feel discomfort/pain. Even when I say "it went down", it went down with discomfort. Is this normal?

I have to say this is the weirdest thing. I tried it out this morning. Woke up and went straight for tea that I sat out on the counter overnight. It went down in small sips... the whole glass. Then I whipped up a shake, let it sit out for a bit, but first sip... too cold. An hour later tried again... and it was good. CRAZY!!!! I figure I will keep it the same until my EGD on Friday, and if all is well stick with it. I am eating 3/4 cup at the most two times a day and having one protein shake a day. Silly band...

Get this... I have figured out today that I can not do cold or hot drinks. It has to be room temp. Hot coffee=stuck, cold protein shake= stuck. Room temp coffee= good, room temp shake=good. Seems to be the same for food. Too hot, won't work, but let it cool down and it will go down. REALLY WEIRD. I can't even drink cold water, have to let it warm up. Crazy??!! Today, after I figured out the temp thing, I had 1/2 cup of chicken salad for lunch, 1/3 cup of basil chicken sausage with sauce for dinner, and it all went down well. Not hungry at all. Wonder if this has been my issue all along? Has anyone else noticed this?
  11. I have found these wonderful little salsa bowls at the DollarTree. They are hot pink and very cute. (4/$1) They hold 3/4 cup exactly. I make my meals fit in there, and if I don't eat it all oh well. I have several other little bowls as well, and have bought the toddler plates too, but nothing beats my hot pink bowls!!

    Banded Teachers Talk - BTT

I have been a high school teacher for 10 years. Teaching business/computers/art. This next year I will be an elementary art teacher teaching K-5th. I am looking forward to working with the little ones, as the big ones have about done me in. I have had several band related issues, and as a closet bandster, it has been rather hard. I do not want the teenagers to know, because they can be very unkind at times. The worst episode was when I was too tight during TAKS, and PB/D and slimed my coffee from 9 am to 11. Hard to keep a good testing face when you are spiting up into your cup and trying to make like you are sipping coffee... but I pulled thru it. Then one day, it was 3:30 and I had forgotten to take my medicines at lunch, so I thought, it was close enough to the end of the day. The moment I swallowed I thought I was going to die. Ended up at the back sink throwing up with all the teenagers freaking out. Nice way to end the day... I don't eat with co-workers most days, or just drink a Protein shake and tell them I am dieting. I don't like getting stuck at work. It is uncomfortable the rest of the day. Have made it a year in the closet with my family/inlaws/school. Since I have not lost that much, it makes it easier on me. I would hate to think about what they would say if they knew I had WLS and still have such a fat hinney. Any suggestions for art projects with the little ones?

Well, I have had a rough day. Here is a little bit of it: Breakfast: Measured out 3/4 cup of cottage cheese. Drank a little water and coffee ok first, so I tried it. One tiny tiny bite...Stuck. Then everything I tried to drink stuck and slimed/pb'd until about 12:30. Then I broke out the wine... then slimed and pb'd wine (talk about gross). Then at 3:30 I tried a diet shake. Thank goodness it started going down. Then I wanted to attack everything because at this point I am falling over hungry. Well since 3:30, I have had two medifast shakes and 1/3 the toppings of one slice of pizza. (My nephew is over and the boys wanted pizza.) There is no way I can do the plan Mary Ann has this tight. What the heck do I do now? Mary Ann told me no shakes whatsoever as the band will not work with those, but getting them down seems to be a chore too. Good grief....

Ok, well I have been contacted and threatened into posting. Not that I was avoiding anything, just had nothing to say. Went and got another fill today. I am at 2.2 now. Will see how that goes. Mary Ann recommended www.matrixmedcom.com for a good book called "Empotional First Aid Kid" by Cynthia Alexander to understand some food issues. She also gave me a list of things to eat and when. She said that I should lose weight if I follow the plan. Here it is: Breakfast (choose one): 2 large eggs 3/4 cup cottage cheese up to 6 oz of canadian bacon OR soy protein sausage 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1/4 cup fresh fruit combine 1 egg with some meat 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1/4 cup meat Lunch: 1/2 can tuna with fat free mayo and some fresh fruit 1/2 can chicken with fat free mayo mixed with 1/3 cup diced apple 2 chopped walnuts, few raisins, and some splenda. 4 oz fat free deli sliced meat and string cheese OR wrapped into lettuce rolls 3 oz of any meat and 1/2 cup fresh fruit or veggies Starkist lunch to go 4-6 oz South Beach Frozen or Lunch Entrees Dinner 3 oz any meat and 1/2 cup steamed veggies 1 small taco(prebaked shell) tomatoes, lettuce, hamburger, cheese, salsa 1 link Jennie-O italian sausage with little tomatoe sauce over cooked shoestring-grated zucchini, squash, or eggplant. Fajita Chicken Salad: 3 oz of spiced chicken on lettuce with fat free dressing, fat free cheese, tomatoes, etc. StirFry chicken, pork, or beef: use stirfry sauce lowest in carbs and some stir fry veggies, spray the pan with PAM don't use oil. Hope helps someone else out there too. Poodles...

Guess I am going to eat easy starting tomorrow. I bought a one week supply of Medifast to try. If THAT does not work, I will find the nearest cliff... (guess that would be Oak Cliff. ) Wish me luck.

Why are some people slow losers?

If you are a junk food eater the band will not work for you. It is terribly frustrating when you are hungry and solid Proteins will not go down, but you can eat Pringles, ice cream, and chocolate. Today for example; I went to a baby shower. Did not eat anything but those little baby mints. Came home and tried to make chicken salad, after buying hubby Sonic. My chicken salad would not go down, but one of his onion rings did... go figure.

Why are some people slow losers?

Restriction, choice of food, metabalism, etc... all play a part. Some of us "slow losers" are just part of the 25% that the band does not help. I am one year out and only 20 lbs down. Guess that makes me a slow loser.

Ok girls, just a reminder to get an EGD. I did not remember my self, until I got a phone call from my Doctors office. It is recommended at one year mark. Stepped on the scale this morning, instead of waiting until tomorrow. It has not moved. Bawled my eyes out, because I have only had liquids since last Wednesday. Measured everything, rode my bike, stayed under 1000 calories. I just don't get it. Really thinking about bypass...

OOOHHH.... There is one HOT Momma out there now!!!!! Hope your fill goes well Regina. Let us know what they put back in you. I have survived my 1 cc fill last Wednesday (guess I need to update my sig). Think I have figured out that for this to work for me, it is not about eating less, it is about not eating at all. As long as I can swallow my spit, and a protein shake, I should be fine. Will step on the scale on Wednesday to see if my theory is right.

Something tells me they were too busy to post... I can only imagine....
  21. Depends on the day of the month for me with some foods like chicken and bread. But can honestly say that I can tell when I chew if it will go down or not. Too thick, chewy, mushy soft... I spit it out and don't even try.

I wouldn't mind getting together after my vacation. Will be gone for a week to San Antonio. Going to Sea World and the Alamo with my little one (and DH) Should be back on the 22nd, so anytime after that will be great. I am going in for another fill on the 27th too. This last "sneaky fill" of .2 (which didn't really happen, if you know what I mean) is really kicking in now. Mother nature +.2 = lousy vacation... But I am going to make the best of it. Bought two new shirts today, have my bags packed, and am ready to go. Hope everyone has fun in Vegas...

Well darn. I meant to put 1/3 equal portions of proteins/veggies/carbs at dinner. Sorry for the multiple post....

Love those cheekbones Lisa! I have a subliminal messages tape I bought off of ebay that seems to help with my sugar cravings. It is the one for low carb dieters. Have also found two new tricks on my new "healthy heart plan" diet. The book says to eat equal portions of low carb veggies and protein for breakfast and lunch, and 1/3 equal proteins at dinner. So I bought two plates: Buy Baby & Child Care - Feeding, Diapering, Nursing Items & More at CVS.com Online Pharmacy and the attached zoo plate at Big Lots. The three way divided one holds 1/4 cup in each compartment, and the two divided plate holds 1/2 cup in each section. Now the diet says I just have to eat equal portion sizes, so if I want to I can fill up the compartments again. But, I have a feeling after another fill or two, I won't fill it up again. (Still on mushies right now after my fill yesterday.) Got my lab results back from Monday, and all is well. Need to get my cholesterol down a little from 228, but other than that it is good. Baby Boy is fine as well. Also, made it thru the WHOLE song today with my dance. So I am excited.
