  1. Has anyone had a gastric bypass with a starting BMI lower than 30? I had gastric sleeve two years ago. I lost 40 pounds within six months, then plateaued, and then regained 10 lbs. I also have severe GERD. So, my insurance approved the revision to bypass (shocking/surprise). My surgery is next week. When I started my pre-op diet I was at a 29 BMI, now I'm at 28 BMI. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had bypass with a low BMI, as I'm concerned with malnutrition and losing too much weight.
  2. How are my October Hiatal Hernia girls doing?
  3. You And I are in the same boat. Sleeved 10/22. BMI under 35 and losing weight slower than the over 40 BMI'ers. But I believe that is to be expected. Also with your dieting Before the sleeve, you were probably losing more Water weight than fat weight. With a sleeve, it's the real deal. You're probably already noticing loose skin and looser fitting clothes. With a lower BMI from the gate, you need to lower your weight loss speed expectations. My goal is 18-20lbs this first month, and 10lbs each subsequent month. That'll put me (and you) at goal around six months. And that ain't so bad at all. It's a marathon, not a race.
  4. I read in my NUT manual that sugar alcohol can cause the dump syndrome in some sleeved patients. But it went on to say to try to keep your sugar alcohol under 12 grams, if you're one of the few affected by sugar alcohols.

    BMI 31-32

Need to clarify. Insurance covered my hernia repair - not my sleeve. The Dr does the sleeve while he's doing the hernia repair. Dr then bills insurance for your hernia and you pay the difference for the sleeve. The difference was only like $700. Your insurance has to cover your hernia repair if you have one. I'm unsubscribing to the post, because I'm getting a lot of notifications in my email. But, please feel free to message me if you have questions.

    BMI 31-32

My BMI was 34 during my initial consult and 33 on the day of my surgery. Nicholson Clinic is definitely on board with low BMI sleeving and they're one of the best WLS clinics in Texas. I honestly think I paid less out of pocket than most insurance-covered sleevers.

Just an FYI for the curious, I went the hiatal hernia route and only paid $2,030. Sleeve plus pre-op and one year post operation visits.
  9. My doctor prescribes appetite suppressants to his patients to get us through the Liquid Phase. Perhaps you can ask your Doc for one of those.

    Stall One Week Post Op

Awesome information. It helps tremendously. Thank you!

I was just sleeved a week ago. BMI approx 33. Not sure if you're in Texas, but you may want to consider going the hiatal hernia route and having insurance pay for the sleeve that way. Most overweight folks have a hiatal hernia. So the WLS Doc bills the instant for the hernia repair and does your sleeve while he's in there. That's the route I took and paid less than $2,500 out of pocket. *instant = insurance company. (Not sure how that happened.)

    Stall One Week Post Op

What is a post-op fluid switch exactly? Curious as heck now.
  14. Ok, I've heard of the legendary 3 week stall. But, I'm only one week post op and I've been in a stall for two days now. The first four days, weight just flew off. Was down 9 lbs in those four days. Then, I gained a pound and the scale hasn't moved since. I'm on a 3 week, full liquid diet. And I don't honestly think I've had more than 300 calories since this thing started. I probably should eat more, but with all the sip, sip, sipping, I've only been able to "eat" about two meal of watered-down and strained Soup per day. I'm getting in my 60 oz of Water, Crystal Light, or unsweetened decaf tea, and about 20 g of Protein. (My NUT wants us to work up from 20 to 60 g in three weeks following the surgery.) I haven't started working out yet. Giving myself until Monday to start back at the YMCA. But, I've already gone back to work and I run (walk) plenty of errands, so I'm not sedentary. I've read Embrace the Stall, and I'm all for it. But, I guess I just need to hear it from you guys. Is a stall only one week post op abnormal? Has anyone else experienced a stall this early on? Could it be because I'm a "Low BMI'er"? (Started out at 34.5 BMI and was 33 BMI on the day of the surgery.) What is going on, man?!
