RGraham87 reacted to Dub in Coffee after surgery?
Both the surgeons I consulted were strict on no coffee for a period of time immediately following surgery.
The surgeon I ultimately went with allows two cups a day after the first 6 weeks. I also like Splenda and cream in mine.
My sister had bypass15 years ago. She is a big fan of her daily trips to Starbucks. I was talking to her on the cellphone yesterday and she was waiting in their drive-thru.
I was glad to know that I wouldn't have to fight for coffee.< /p>

My surgeon is very strict on coffee. She doesn't want me drinking regular or Decaf. The other surgeons in their practice however are ok with decaf. I guess the caffeine in the regular puts you at risk for kidney stones. I will publicly admit that I do have a cup of decaf a few days a week with splenda and skim milk. It's also the time of the year when the good lattes, pumpkin, mint ect, will be emerging. I plan on trying one made with decaf and skim milk and see how it goes...lol

My nutritionist says Decaf OK during full liquids and going forward. They prefer no regular coffee, but if you do, limit it to 1 cup and can start during soft foods phase. I've read where you should drink extra Water when you have regular coffee because the caffeine can assist in causing dehydration. I am 4 weeks post op and will drink decaf maybe twice a week and I cant drink more than a cup or my tummy feels icky. I did get a great coffee at Starbucks yesterday, brewed decaf with two pumps of SF cinnamon dolce flavoring. I added some non-fat milk and a little cream.

I'm not on Celexa, so I don't know how helpful I can be, but I am on other psych medication for anxiety. I'm still on track for surgery. When in doubt, call your surgeon's office and ask.

This is a very personal decision. Before the surgery, I only told a few people at work, including my boss. My fears weren't that I was ashamed that I had to "resort" to weight loss surgery because I was too weak to do it on my own or that people would think bad of me, etc. (all of the usual things that people think), but I didn't want people to have unrealistic expectations. I didn't want people to think that I was going to end up a model or that I would lose 100 pounds in a month.

Since I've returned back to work, anyone who asks will get the whole story. I love talking about it. But I don't want to make someone uncomfortable by talking about it if they don't want to hear it. Also, there are a number of obese co-workers and I don't want them to feel bad about themselves or jealous about my surgery. But I do want to be an advocate and a information resource for those who might be considering WLS.
There is one guy coworker who will ask me almost every day if I'm feeling ok. I'm guessing he probably thinks I've got something really bad, like cancer. I will have to talk to him soon, so he will be not so worried about me.
I'm five weeks post op and feeling wonderful. I'm down 50 pounds! My life has changed for the better and I'm too excited to keep this bottled up! And if I can help someone else feel the way I do, then that will be just frosting on the cake.
Now.....I purposely didn't tell my husband's sisters and their families. We see them a few times a year. My husband is close to his sisters and they talk on the phone and text all the time. We will see them at Thanksgiving and I'm looking for that "shock" factor. By then I should be about 80 pounds down. They will be so surprised! And you better believe I will tell them all about my surgery then.

After my surgery I told none of my friends or colleagues outside or inside of work. But when asked I explained that my body rejected Gluten (bread) and I stopped drinking carbonation because my body bloated. It was just time for a life change.

Wow! Thanks so much everyone for your feedback!! You guys are awesome! The reason why I don't want to tell everybody is because I do work with some judgey people and I don't want to hear their opinions. It's my life and I know what's best for me. I'm not ashamed of my decision. It took me awhile to feel this way and I don't need any negativity in my life! I know exactly what I'm going to say! Thanks all!

People have really only said that they were scared for me. I had to explain. Their has been no wls deaths hospital (so far). My friend is a bill coder at the same hospital and she said that my surgeon is one of the best. I'm in good hands.

Ok, who is excited? I know I am! I will tell you a little bit about me. I was banded in 2011, lost 80 pounds but developed complications and had to have it removed just 3 weeks ago. I am still overweight, never reached goal. I decided to revise to bypass which is a scary thing for me. My insurance company and my surgeon wants me to wait 3 months before revision to bypass mainly to heal from my recent band, scar tissue and port removal. I also have been on a physician supervised diet since April. My NUT and Psych appt are Oct 2nd. Once they have that, they can submit. I have a tentative date of November 13th or 16th. My surgeon is ok with either date. What is really weird, is that I was banded around that time back in 2011. I am looking forward to meeting others who will be going through this at the same time, and to support each other

RGraham87 reacted to Djmohr in Low carb chicken parmesean
I made an outstanding home made low carb chicken parmesean tonight for dinner. My husband loved it and my pouch is very happy now!
I used almond flour/meal instead of flour and bread crumbs .
    Here is the recipe:
1 large chicken breast (I love smart chicken brand) - boneless, skinless
    1 egg
1/4 c milk or half and half
    1cup almond meal
1/2 cup freshly grated parmesean cheese - all I had was Pecorino Romano and it was excellent!
    Salt
    Pepper
    Olive oil
    Fresh mozerella - chopped
Marinara sauce - I cook this by sautéing onions and fresh mushrooms and then adding my favorite jarred marinara sauce
I preheated the oven to 375.
I sliced the chicken breast to make a thinner filet using a sharp knife. This made two large chicken filets. Set up a breading station. Place 1/4 cup almond meal in one dish, 1 egg plus 1/4 cup milk whisked with a touch salt and pepper. In the last dish add 1 cup of almond meal plus the parmesean cheese. Mix well.
Place a shallow layer of olive oil in your frying pan and turn heat to med/high.
Place chicken breast first in plain almond flour, then dip both sides in egg mixture, then roll in almond flour/parm mixture until well coated. Repeat with 2nd slice of chicken.
When oil is hot but not smoking add both chicken breasts to pan and brown. You will finish this dish in the oven so you are just looking to brown your crust. Remove chicken from pan and place in baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce around the sides and a little on the top of each breast but don't cover them completely. Some of the crust should be peeking out.
Sprinkle with fresh mozerella and cover with foil. Place in 375 oven for 8 minutes. Remove foil and let bake another 7 to 10 minutes to brown cheese.
Do not over bake your chicken. Adjust the times accordingly. Mine was very juicy, tender and delicious!
Yum! Eat up! I was able to eat about 1/3 of one slice with some lovely green Beans with bacon and onion as my side. Very nice Italian dinner.< /p>

I only told my kids, partner and Boss about my upcoming surgery and honestly feel it's no one else's business what I do in my private life. I believe people should worry or take care of their own issues before they try and investigate and judge others..

RGraham87 got a reaction from Dream4tc in What did you do to get out of work for surgery? What did you tell work?
I am guessing most people used sick time, vacation or personal time. I am only going be be using sick home. I have never called in sick. I have over a month in sick time. Not much in vacation and personal days. The only way I can use sick time, is by calling out the day of surgery. I am not up to telling work that I'm getting weight-loss surgery. Work doesn't let you request sick time. I'm trying to figure out what would be the best thing I could say to them. Appendicitis Maybe? Lol

I feel you. I'm starving too and 1000 calories a day. I Don't lose weight. Your liver has to shrink for them to operate so they don't damage your liver. Basically the last 28 years of your life you have been maintaining the size of your liver but eating the way they want you to for 5 days to 14 days depending on your doctor. It really does make a difference to do the pre op diet. They won't do the surgery if you don't do it right. They can tell when you didn't do the Pre op diet correctly. The day of surgery they will do a ultrasound to check out your liver and stuff first. If your liver isn't the right size then will send you home. Be strong and follow it. Watch lots of YouTube videos! Good luck!
