Nissen Fundoplication and Gastric Bypass
WendyA posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone ever had issues with getting their bypass AFTER having the Nissen for a couple of years or so? My surgeon stated he won't know if I can have the bypass until he gets in there and sees the condition of my stomach, he's already had to deny a patient that due to destroyed blood vessels in her stomach that prevented the bypass.. I'm stressing over this ontop of stressing over losing my job in January. He's still putting me through testing he wants but the final know of it won't be til I waken from anesthesia than I'll know. -
I definitely understand the frustration, I've been doing this since August 2015 and still pre-op, saw my surgeon last month October and won't see him again til next month in Dec....had everything else done, plus blood work now only two tests left which are scheduled are my Upper GI and a sleep study, all to find out it still be a no go for me, I had a Nissen Fundoplication done almost 3 yrs ago and if any damage to my stomach was done then I will be waking up to no procedure and just cuts for nothing...but I have to find out...plus we just found out I'm losing my job in January when the surgery is suppose to take place...so ontop of waiting I'm stressed over losing my job and can't look for another until I'm healed. So your not alone

I saw my surgeon last month and he knows I had a Nissen Fundoplication done 3 yrs ago for Hiatal Hernia and GERD which the GERD led to Barrett's esophagus (precancerous of the esophagus) anyway, he stated his concern his that the blood vessels of the stomach will be damaged or died off and he cannot do the bypass which is the only procedure he would do on me, and also concerned for the Barrett's I have, he wants to make the best decision for my future health, also stated he was going to present this to a board of surgeons for their advice whether to proceed or not, but stated it should be fine, and if so I will be his only surgery that day so he can take his time in case it takes longer....he is still having me go through testing, passed blood test with flying colors, and getting upper GI and sleep study this month...so I won't know if I have the bypass until I wake from anesthesia, he already had one patient that he could not do her bypass due to dead blood vessels in the stomach....has anyone else ever come across this before? I am going through Dr. Genaw at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit.

60 Yrs and Pre-Op and having psych eval and nervous wreck
WendyA posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
hi everyone, I'm new to this site and I'm in the midst of getting everything done for my surgery, however, tomorrow is my psych apt before I see my surgeon next month....I am terrified about this psych apt, I don't have a food addiction, if you tell me I can't have it then I don't eat it, I don't eat secretly I don't stop at fast foods, I just made wrong choices at the wrong time of day is all and was inactive, bad combo....I am already approved for the surgery by my insurance company so I don't want my evaluation from the psychologist to be the sticking stone that eliminates me....or am I worrying for nothing? Thanks for letting me vent. -
Thanks everyone for the loving words of encouragement, Anxioustobeme, I have my approval letter from my insurance company already, I just have to do all the evals and such that many of you have already done, I had to get my approval first! So the only eval I am worried about is the psych cause I've fought so hard for this that I don't want to lose my bypass chance due to an evaluation such as the psych cause I said something dumb or whatever...I would be crushed if I lost the bypass chance, I look at it as getting myself healthy like I dream of and I already have my gym membership been already doing small things that are required, sips of Water, chewing more, smaller bites, etc...reading, informing myself ....I just want to feel healthy again....to not have achy joints cause of my weight, etc...to stop the reflux for the most part, to feel this weight off my torso....I'm sure you all know what I mean my first appt is monday and it's a big one 8 hrs and hubby is required to be there, my support...just told my son about it and he is very supportive, knows I've been trying for this for years...so my children (adult children they are) and my husband and my closests friends are all highly supportive. I'm glad I found this group

Bypass for reflux and hernia
WendyA replied to Knitchic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just now was approved by insurance, that has to be done first before any further, so 8/31/15 is my first scheduled appt of many I'm sure. However, 3 yrs ago I did have a Nissan Fundoplication done, due to hiatal hernia and severe GERD, ended up with Barrett's esophagus. I still have the Nissan, and realize they may have to take it down to do the bypass which is fine with me, due to at my last EGD with my GI specialist it showed I still get reflux, so that didn't even stop it, but the extra weight is pulling on it and makes it uncomfortable, I so cannot wait for this weight to be gone, I will do everything necessary, no doubts there. So it seems the bypass is preferred over the sleeve if you have reflux, saw that on a youtube video....how many of you were advised for the same reason? -
Anyone here from Michigan?
WendyA replied to ratmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also from MI Downriver area of Lincoln Park...already approved just going through the appts now...don't know how long before I get scheduled, sooner the better -
Nervous about what to expect, for my situation and insurance, I had to be approved by our Insurance company before anything could even be started, we have an HMO.....I was denied a few years ago and decided to try again and I got approved was elated to say the least!! Now I have my first appt which is Monday 8/31/15 my husband Is attending with me, it's an all day appt. from 9:45 to 4:30pm...they call it a Nurses Consultation, I guess its about information on pre op and post op and the various procedures available and anything else we need to be informed of, after that I have no idea what to expect. I just turned 60 and I know I have to see a Pscyh Eval..and Nut/Excerise and the surgeon(s) themselves, after that I have no idea, I don't know if I will be done this year with the surgery or it will be after the first of the year LOL I'm feeling anxious at times because I so want it to happen and waiting is not my strong suit LOL I am 5'6 and 250 lbs but everyone is shocked when they hear I'm 105 lbs overweight, they stare at me like I have something dripping from my pores. LOL Even though it's obvious I'm obese. Can anyone inform me of what the psych evals are like? That one for some reason makes me nervous LOL Thanks and I'm new here obviously.
