Think long term, not short term. "Numbers" are short term. I am 16 months or so post op. My weight hasn't changed much in the last 6 months or so, but I have defintely dropped body fat. That has to translate in to an increase in muscle. I train regularly, hard. So defintely keep the big picture in mind and not just some numbers on the scale.

i use a personal trainer once a week, wish i had the money to do more than that. i am 16 months post op, below my goal weight and training for an ironman triathlon, so it was important to me to get at least 1 PT workout in a week. go for it, they are everywhere, some are better than others. mine came highly recommended and really knows his stuff. he designs my workouts around endurance sports for me.

How to deal with people who don't support you ):
Ryan TN replied to vsg2266's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can very much relate. I had very similar experiences with "friends" trying to talk me out of it, it's the easy way, blah blah blah. I heard it all. What I can tell you now being 16 months or so post op is this. Screw them. I have fallen in love with endurance sports, triathlon, running, marathon training, i have a brand new circle of friends who are so supportive and love hanging out with them. Another thing I've figured out is that alot of my old friends don't want to see me succeed. They want me to fail, for some reason. I'm guessing it's so they don't have to look at themselves. Screw them, why was I ever friends with some of these losers in the first place? -
And let me add, I'm a huge yoga fan. I do it twice a week. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

That would be a question for your Dr to answer. Twisting and stretching before you're ready could have some serious consequences. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Weight loss vs inches lost
Ryan TN replied to Carrie1122's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Very good idea. Wish I had done that. I had the sleeve in October of 2015. For about 8 months now, I've stayed around 165, but my pants size has continued to get smaller. Would've been nice to have seen the numbers as well. Sent from my SM-T580 using the BariatricPal App -

Keep at it. I lost alot of strength and endurance after surgery, but I'm now healthier and stronger than any point in my life. You'll get it back. Sent from my SM-T580 using the BariatricPal App -

Keep Us Motivated - What Can You Do Now That You Couldn't Do Before?
Ryan TN replied to switch2lose's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm not a DS patient, but for this type question, doesn't really matter which surgery we've had. I just did my 5th triathlon of the year and have a bigger one next weekend. I couldn't even run an entire 5k this spring without walking, now planning on doing a couple half marathons this fall. I'm still a month away from being 1 year post op! My advice, exercise hard and exercise often! Makes all the difference in the world! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -

I can totally relate, but I try to focus on the positives, no more sleep apnea, blood pressure issues, my cholesterol is outstanding now, no more knee pain, I've completed several endurance sporting events, focus on the good stuff! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
The above ideas are great, I use them, plus I take a bite of food, put the fork down and finish chewing. This is really great when eating out with family and friends, gives you more time to talk and slows you down. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

I use it, it's great! I sprinkle about a half serving on my lunch if it's something somewhat saucy, if you follow me. I've heard others put it in their coffee, but it can't be too hot. I personally don't like it in coffee. For today for example. I have some left over thai food for lunch. I'll sprinkle half a serving on it and mix it up good. Great Protein source. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App smoothie would be another example I use it for. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Sorry I'm just now posting this. 13 weeks of training came to this moment! My goal was to finish under 2 hours and i finished in 1 hour and 52 minutes, good enough for 6th place in my age group. What a great feeling to accomplish my goal and had alot of fun doing it. Now on to my next race. Don't give up on your dream! Set a goal, train, work for it, it's so worth it! Pretty excited and pumped about starting my 13 week triathlon training today, even though Mondays are my rest days! LOL. I see an exercise physiologist at my surgery center. She designed a training course for me that is very detailed and structured. (I need that!) She spent alot of time researching it. She basically took 3 different plans from the Internet and took parts off each and custom fit it to me. She is young, fresh out of college and I think she enjoyed the challenge of it, which actually motivates me even more, I don't want to let her down! I picked a long sprint triathlon that is in my hometown in August. Quarter mile swim, 17 mile bike, and 4.1 mile run. I have always wanted to do triathlons since I was in my early 20's, but life got in the way, so now that I am at my goal weight, it's my next challenge in life! Ready, set, go! Definitely get the couch to 5k app. I loved it, it coaches you from walking to running a 5k. It's how I started and it's snowballed from there. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

I walked alot after my sleeve in oct. Of 15. One day, decided I wanted to do a 5k, do I downloaded the couch to 5k app. It's an awesome app! Highly recommend it. From there, it's just snowballed, bought a bike, done a Metric century bike ride, several 5k's and now 3 triathlons under my belt with 3 more to go this season. Just keep rolling with it!
