  1. I recently made the egg muffins too, made a dozen of them, froze most. Turned out great and easy. I put sautéed mushrooms and spinach in mine.
  2. 9 weeks post op here. I had a 3 month medically supervised diet plan with my doctor to meet Cigna's requirements. As of 2 days ago, I'm now under united. I think the weight loss plan requirement is more of a formality than anything else. Im sure theres a small percentage of people who would go thru the diet and chose not to have the surgery. Lets be real for a minute, our insurance company could care less about us, so they would probably prefer not to have to pay for the surgery if they can. The requirement is probably for that purpose. My bmi was not real high when i went to the surgeon, and i was a little concerned what if i lost too much weight under the 3 month plan. They said it didn't really matter, it was my weight on that first visit that counts. Good luck, how do you like United?

    Which Weight Counts?!

I was actually worried about losing too much weight during my 3 month supervised diet I did with my doctor. My bmi wasn't really high starting out, like 37. I asked them what would happen if I fell below the 35 during my pre-op diet, they said it didn't matter, it was your first visit weight.

    Which Weight Counts?!

My weight didn't really change much at all between my first visit and when I went for my pre-op visit. I lost several pounds during my pre-op diet however.

    Bypass or sleeve ?

As young as you are, I think you would do just fine with your weight loss with the sleeve. I had the sleeve 8 weeks ago and doing great with it. It was actually the only surgery I qualified for, my bmi was 37 or so I think, so I can't say much about the others. My thing about the sleeve is that it's much less invasive. No switching body parts around. Good luck in whichever you chose. You have youth on your side, you'll do great.

What can I do with...cottage cheese?

I like to add my cottage cheese to the trash bag. That **** is NASTY. What I would do with cottage cheese.

    Which Weight Counts?!

I'm sure all insurances are different, but I don't think it's that critical in my case. It was never mentioned, the surgeons office said it was all based on my initial visit weight.

    Vitamin B1 deficiency

I am on B1 since surgery 8 weeks ago. It's an important vitamin. It helps with blood sugar and energy.

    Water hurts!

Pretty normal when you swallow any liquid. It will pass in a couple weeks. Stay hydrated.
  11. If you are near a kroger's, they have a carbmaster milk that has 11 grams of protein, also carbmaster brand yogurt there has alot of protein. I am 7 weeks post op and get all my protein in with food and one shake a day.
  12. In my case, pureed foods included scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, cottage cheese ????????, but was able to move to moist meats in that phase, tuna fish, beans, boca burgers (yum, love them). Again, just me, if you aren't sure, discuss it with your NUT.
  13. I had acid reflux before surgery, took prilosec daily. My surgeon never discussed doing anything other than the sleeve. I've had zero problems, now 7 weeks postop. My surgeon mentioned before surgery that i probably had a hiatal hernia with my history of acid reflux and he would repair that while he was in there, which i did have one and he repaired it. I still take prilosec, but no problems at all with reflux.

    Pain on right side :(

Alot of WLS patients have problems with gallbladders because of the rapid weight loss. It would happen after surgery, so you could have a perfectly normal GB on surgery day and develop a problem post op. Good luck. I get to keep mine for now.

    Pain on right side :(

I am 6 weeks post op and have been having some gallbladder issues on my right side. It's more up under my ribcage. You may want to talk to your surgeon or Dr about it. I just had an appointment with my surgeon today about it. We are going to leave it be for now, it seems to be getting a little better.

    Drinking Post Surgery

From what i remember from my nutritionist class, immediately after surgery, there's a lot of swelling, which is the reason you can't hold much. As that swelling subsides, we can drink more.

Guy's Room - Just some dude talking sh_t!

I bought one of those stools. I'm sold on it too. It works! For any future people looking at this thread, just letting you know they sell the squatty potty at bed, bath, and beyond. I didnt want to wait for shipping from amazon.
  19. The preop diet is more about shrinking your liver in prep for surgery to make things easier, also to prepare your body for rapid weight loss. Its hard, Probably harder than post op. Hang in there, follow your plan, you'll be fine. I lost 15 pounds or so on my 2 week diet.

Guy's Room - Just some dude talking sh_t!

I'm 4 weeks post op and have had a horrible time going since surgery. Like squeezing golf balls thru a garden hose! I will definitely be checking out this product. Thanks for the info.

    Tennessee

Who is your surgeon in Knoxville? I had Dr Williams at new life bariatric 5 weeks ago. Great surgeon, great support staff.
  22. I am totally on board with what you are saying. I really enjoy hunting and fishing, particularly deer hunting. I've got great land in my back yard to hunt, there's a big 11 point running around right now, but it's pretty steep is the only problem. Maybe I will be able to get out late this season and get after him. I'm only 4 weeks post op, but I've already lost 40 pounds, sure makes climbing hills with all that gear alot easier. Even if I don't get to go this year, there's always next year, and by then I plan on being a lean mean machine!

    How much is too much?

It sounds like you are doing all the right things to me. How tall are you and what's your goal weight? I'm actually pretty similar and have the same concern. I wasn't the heaviest of sleeve pts. My HW was 276, my SW was 257, and my current weight is 232, about 4 1/2 weeks post op. I can tell I've lost some muscle. I'm still on lifting restrictions for another 2 weeks, so no gym for me.

    Post-op and crazy puppy!

Maybe you could get him in a dog obedience class before your surgery?
