Low carb and high protein is to help with weight loss. Im sure you've heard of the Atkins diet, alot of surgery centers and nutritionists have you on a low carb diet before surgery to help with weightloss. It causes your body to go into ketosis, where your body burns fat for energy, which is a good thing.

I made shelly's baked ricotta last night. Even my kids ate it! its good!

Look at your pre-op diet as if your life depends on following it is the best way. It makes your surgery easier by shrinking your liver and sets you up for success down the road. A slip up here or there isn't going to be anything of major consequence, but you do need to stick to it. It sucks, I know, but it's actually the hardest part in my opinion. When you can beat that, look out, there's nothing to stop you from reaching your goals. PatchMD vs Bariatric Advantage
Ryan TN replied to NJGuy78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my nut about the patchmd vitamins. she said she's talked to my surgeon about them and they both agree that there is no way they can have as much in them as they claim. She also doubts the ability for the body to absorb vitamins thru the skin. -

Daily Meal Ideas for WLS 8+ Months Out
Ryan TN replied to Katnroyal's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 4 months post op, and 16 pounds from goal. I eat around 600 calories a day. Dont know what maintenance phase will be like as im not there yet, but my nut is pretty adamant about not counting calories, only focus on getting at least 75 grams of protein, keeping carbs between 30-60, which im usually around 30, and keeping fat under 30, which is no problem at all. Thanks for the list, OP, i'll be going into maintenance soon and seeing what others do is a big help. -
You are going to have to be a little more specific in location before anyone can give you an answer.

Welcome to the club! Already made as in the Sriracha sauce?
-
Sriracha sauce, it's a sweet pepper sauce too. Its roots are Chinese I believe. It's that red bottle you see at Chinese restaurants sometimes. Try some!
-
Soft foods on my list was scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, stuff with a puree consistancy.
-
More Sriracha sauce, but you know what? I don't care! I love it!
-
Totally me too.
-
And if you're looking for protein, shrimp is where its at! Shrimp with sriracha sauce, mmm, mmmm!
-
Sriracha sauce only has like 5 calories per serving too, perfect for us!

If you have a krogers nearby, they have a brand called carbmaster. It is a high protein low carb yogurt and taste really good.

They long to be close to you by the Carpenters. That was a good one! -
I also found genepro, I lIke it much more than unjury. It dissolves better and is more concentrated, a small scoop is 30 grams vs 21 for unjury I believe. I bought it off Amazon.com.How is the flavor? No flavor at all. Can't even taste it.

I'm a firefighter so lifting pulling and all that is a big part of my job. I took 6 weeks off, I was on lifting restrictions for that long.
-
I had a hiatal hernia repaired when i had my sleeve. It increased by time on lifting restrictions from 4 to 6 weeks. I was off work (firefighter) for 6 weeks.

Can't bring Phone?!
Ryan TN replied to Pedro Valle-Inclan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgery centers, you'll put all your belongings in a plastic bag before surgery and it stays with you until you reach your room. If the hospital staff is that "grabby", I'd change hospitals! -
Surgery Monday. I'm about to back out!
Ryan TN replied to frankenstein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am married, father of two boys, also HAD HBP, sleep apnea, prediabetes and getting arthritis in my knees. Dude, I am you, except I am 11 weeks post op from gastric sleeve. I am down 75 pounds from when I started my pre op diet. I too contemplated the "finality" of this surgery. I have only had a little minor hiccup involving some gallbladder pain, other than that, no problems at all. I would do it again tomorrow if I had to. I came off my cpap machine just a few weeks after surgery, no more bp meds, I dont know about my prediabetes numbers, but i assume they are better. I still have some knee pain that I think I'll go to the ortho on. Everyone probably thinks like you, I did, and don't regret anything. It really changes how you perceive food. Do it, you wont regret it. -

2 day liquid diet before surgery?!
Ryan TN replied to Laura Lopez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree with this observation. People in my Facebook group who didn't do a 2 week pre-op diet have not lost as much as those who have. Do a 2 week, pre-op diet, you will be glad you did. Hang in there, it will get easier.
