Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
SleeveMe247 replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I considered buying retried beans to help me GO, but I talked myself out o it because they are too thick. I ate a couple bites of soft scrambled egg earlier (I know, it was probably a week too soon) and I've been feeling full ever since...that was around 4pm! Beans are much heavier than the third of egg I had, so I opted out. I won't be eating anymore eggs until next week. Although the I tolerated it quite well, I don't like feeling this full. I've already gotten used to my little tummy and the full feeling reminds me of those days when I overate even when I was full. I can honestly say I haven't eaten anything inappropriate, but maybe things I should be waiting a bit longer to eat, so I'm gonna fall back a little and stick to the week 2 plan, which for me is full liquids transitioning to puréed foods. -

Thank you so much darling! And thank you for participating too, we are all helping each other navigate through this thing. Regarding the crushed pills, the taste was horrible and the amount of Water it takes to swallow crushed pills versus a pill that has been cut in half is what caused me to feel sick. That was my first "stuck" feeling when I tried to swallow those crushed pills. Having just come home I didn't want to chance swallowing the pill whole or even cut in half, but at a week out and still having pain in the main incision, I did it out of desperation. I only had to do it for one day because when I woke up today I was in no pain. I've only had minor pain when I make a wrong move and overextend myself. I have been fortunate that I only threw up once, which was the day after I came home and I had to go back to the hospital because I didn't take pain meds that whole night (except the crushed pills when I first got home). At that time when I tried to swallow water, I vomited the water, but otherwise no vomiting. They kept me for one night to manage my pain and hydrate me, then I was released the next day with lortab elixir (liquid meds). I used that for the rest of the week. So my recommendation is to ask for liquid pain meds up front! My insurance didn't cover it so I had to pay $98 for it, but it was worth it! I would highly recommend that. -

Do you mind sharing your starting weight with us? If not I totally understand. That's just scary to me that you "plateaued" after 50 lbs. My starting weight was 343, I'm now 297, and I'm hoping that get to at least 180-190, but 160-175 is preferred. -

My back is hurting like no other! The incision pain FINALLY went away. Today is the first day I haven't taken pain meds. I had half a Protein shake (15g of protein) and a quarter cup of cottage cheese (7g of protein) and had no issues at all! Things are looking up from here. I did wake up feeling drugged and exhausted, but things are coming along. I took some Smooth Move Tea to see if I can GO, nothing has happened yet. That is my only complaint as of the moment...the back pain????, the constipation???? and still feeling tired ???? -
Broke my Pre-Op Diet
SleeveMe247 replied to septsleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to be on clear liquids 48 hours pre-op, so you should be ok. Even during the liquid diet I was told one small meal was allowed, so I'm sure you are fine! -
I would talk to my primary doctor, if it's causing irritation and interfering with daily activities, insurance may cover the skin removal.

I find myself adding more to the topic each day lol, -a new one I've discovered now is that I can swallow pills that have been cut in half, a week post-op. My syrup was getting low, so I tried it out of desperation, no issues at all! -the broth from el pollo loco's tortilla Soup will change your life! The family had chicken for dinner and I tried this so I didn't feel completely left out...best decision I've made all week! -that I can tolerate dairy! Tried a tablespoon of cottage cheese, and sprinkles of the cojita cheese in my soup earlier, no issues at all! -that this would be so mentally challenging! I have cried so many times these week, either from pain, weakness, frustration that I had to force myself to eat when I wasn't hungry, discomfort, etc. I see why they require the psych evaluation, this is not for the weak at heart, by any means. -funny finding, that my nipple piercings would close up so fast! I had to take them out at the hospital before surgery, by the time I was released, my piercings were completely closed. I refuse to piece them again, as I just did it for my 30tg bday in April, and that crap hurt like no other! (Hey, this is gonna help somebody lol, don't judge me ???? lol) -I still can't poop! Wtf, never thought I'd be looking forward to pooping so bad...this is BS man! As you can see, I'm also getting a tad crazier by the day lol. This thing is like being baptized! Once I came from that table, I was born again, and my whole lifestyle changed instantly even when I'm still confused about what exactly I signed up for, and learning more and more each day. So by all means, keep adding....add multiple posts as you discover new things....somebody is learning from this, I'm absolutely one of them ????????❤️ -

Omg this is a plethora of information, just what I was hoping for. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that hasn't had a BM at almost a week out. And I'm drinking Water like crazy with no problems but still don't have a desire to eat much else. I'm able to have full liquids now but hardly have a desire. My pain is still pretty bad at my incision site but it's not infected or anything. I'm taking it easy today. I was able to swallow a Colace soft gel and my Narco pill cut in half today, that suprised me because I couldn't take them crushed. I only did it out of desperation because my syrup is almost gone. Also I licked a small amount of Trader Joe's Cookie Butter off the spoon when I served my daughter her afternoon snack of apple slices with cookie butter, and I didn't get sick. Nothing has made me sick so far actually. If I can just poop and get past this pain, I would actually be one happy camper. I don't even think about food very much anymore, it's actually kinda off putting and I have to force myself TO EAT. So I'm hoping this propels me to get rid of more than the 60% excess weight. Quick question...has anyone tested the waters yet to see if they "dump"? I bought some Greek yogurt from Trader Joes yesterday and realized it still has 17g of sugar although I got the nonfat. Granted, I can only eat about a quarter of a serving anyhow, but I'm debating if I should try it at all out of fear of dumping. Any thoughts on this? -

Ok I have another one...I'm suprised that at officially one week out, I'm still experiencing pain in my main incision from which my stomach and hernia were removed. It's at a level 8! I called my doctor and they just advised me to call the office tomorrow morning to see about getting a refill on my pain meds. I don't think it's infected or anything, but I know I made a couple wrong turns and may have pulled on it too much. I'm hoping it subsides in the next coming days, but it's pretty bad. How long did it take for you guys' pain to completely go away and go no longer need pain meds? -

Thank u so much, I'm loving this already. The part about the scale was hilarious because I've done this already too. The gas pain has subsided for me but I still haven't had a BM yet almost a week post-op. Not feeling hungry is one for me too, although I've had a few moments where I felt the urge to consume something. Although I haven't experienced the issue with water, I've been drinking cold ice water non-stop. But I love hearing others' experiences. Please, carry on ???????????????????????????? -

Hey September Sleevers, just wanted to update you guys. Tomorrow makes one week post op. I'm gonna ease my way into full liquids, starting with some Soup for dinner. TMI, but still haven't had a bowel movement, not sure if this is normal or not considering I've only been consuming liquids, but I've been drinking Water like crazy! I would imagine well over 64oz of water alone plus my Protein. It's been hot in LA, so I've been drinking tons of water. My urine is almost clear so I'm nowhere near dehydrated. It's still been a struggle to get in the protein. I had about 40-50grams yesterday between the shakes, and my mom used two of my premier vanilla Protein Shakes from costco and made me some sugar free vanilla pudding out of it. The concept was splendid although it was kinda thick, so I didn't want to eat much of it yesterday, but I'll try more today. I weighed myself and I'm officially in the two's again! I'm 298, which is awesome considering my starting weight was 343 in April. I was 301 the day of my surgery, 310 two days after, so the excess water weight is finally gone plus a few extra pounds, so I'm ecstatic! I would be highly pleased if I made it to 280 by the end of the month, but I'm not putting pressure on myself. I'm still having pain in the incision site where they removed everything, but otherwise I'm feeling better overall. I'm planning to start a new thread called "things you didn't expect during your first month post-op" because I've already had some experience unexpected and I think it would be helpful if we shared them with each other. We can post them here too, but I'm also wanting to hear from people who've been sleeved for a while too, as they can help us be better prepared going into our first month. Anyways, I'm still alive and well guys...carry on ????????????✌????️ -

@@Radar as long as you feel comfortable with the process, that is what's most important. It could just be that my surgeon was overly cautious, as he is the director of the minimally invasive surgical department. But my daughter is your typical 5 year old, spunky and full of energy, so she doesn't understand that mommy doesn't feel well because to her I look exactly the same lol. I told her mommy wasn't feeling good, and she is kidding chilled out now that we're back home. It was mostly the car ride home, she was just extra excited lol. But honestly I can't imagine going upstairs right now! I live up two flights of stairs, that's why I'm at my moms for a few days. Just make sure you take some pain meds before you go home so you have the strength to get up there. You will be fine! You have persevered through so much already, this will be a walk in the park for you! -

@@Radar with all due respect, I'd so some research on this place. Sounds like they are just pushing you through instead of really taking the time to make sure this is the best choice for you. How can they do a psych evaluation without seeing you? Same with the nutritionist. I know you're anxious to do it, but you wanna be sure you're in good hands. Again, no judgement but just sounds like they are being a little too lenient. As far as my pain, I'm ok. I just got home to my mom's because I live up two flights of stairs. I just crushed my narco pills and it made me feel like I was gonna throw up trying to swallow them. I'm gonna try my best not to use these at all, because the amount of liquid I had to swallow to get them down almost gave me my first stuck feeling, and I've been doing good so far otherwise. But I won't lie, my 5 year old already has my nerves through the roof. It seems like she is extra hyper because she hasn't seen me, and I'm trying to be understanding that she's excited to see me, but she's jumping around and trying to have me smell her underarms to see if she stinks (I know, a weird thing we do) and I can't deal right now. Kinda wished I stayed in the hospital the extra day lol, so be prepared for that with the kiddos @@Radar lol???? -

@@Radar I'm in the hospital now, I was told I'd be here for two days, but we are determining if I need to stay a third day, because I haven't been eating very much. I think I'm gonna go home later because I drank half a protein shake just now. Don't feel bad about the "food funeral" lol. I was supposed to be on a two week liquid diet, but I only did it for two and a half days before my surgery. As long as you don't weigh more on your surgery date then you did at your last appointment, you should be ok. But it is imperative that you consume liquids only 48 hours prior and nothing after midnight the night before, or they will cancel your surgery. -

OMG Radar, as a children's social worker with child protective services, this just made me so upset hearing about all the abuse you endured as a child. No judgement at all, but when this is all done, it would be great if you did some individual counseling to ensure those issues from your past don't creep into your future as you embark on this new journey. So guys my surgery was on Fri. It was scheduled for 2pm but got delayed two hours because I was the last surgery of the day. Was in the recovery room 2hrs waiting for a bed. Let me tell you right now...don't let these YouTube vids fool you into thinking you are pain free after surgery. The pain was worse than when I had a c-section by far. Also I didn't get the medicine button that you can self regulate, I had to ask for pain meds, and felt like I was asking almost every two hours that first night. Delodid (excuse the spelling) is my best friend! Then the next day, they are asking me to drink 30cc of clear liquid every hour. I think I had all of 30cc the whole day! My pain was so bad I had no desire to eat. Mind you my surgery went well with no complications, and my incision sites were perfect. It was the pain from "down under" I'm assuming where they removed my stomach. The broth made me gasier so I didn't have much of that, I primarily had diet cranberry juice. Only sucky part about that is cranberry juice has always made me thirstier. Then I ask my nurse for an abdominal binder (thought that would be routine but they said my doctor had to order one...trust me, you want one!) which holds your tummy in close and puts a little pressure to relive the pain. Finally, some relief!! Then I get a nurse who wants to take away my delodid and put me on something lower to prep me for going home, but I insisted that I remain on delodid so I can get it through iv knowing I wasn't ready to swallow liquid meds if I barely consumed 30cc, and nausea was an issue too. She puts in a doctor order so I can keep the delodid, but my pain is finally starting to subside on Saturday so I'm gradually off the delodid and now I'm taking liquid narco, Tylenol iv drip (believe it or not, that shit helps a lot!) and something called terrodol (excuse my spelling). Finally, I'm feeling like myself. It's early Sunday morning around 4am, and I'm in absolutely no pain. I've already walked around twice this morning. I actually feel like I could go home, but I may have to stay one more night becauSe I haven't consumed any Protein yet or released gas from the back. I'm totally fine with staying a third night and I may even request it just to make sure I'm ok before I go home. Positives have been that I have had absolutely no vomiting (granted I have hardly eaten though), the things they have given me taste ok, my nurses on Sat and early Sun have been phenomenal, I have a private room, I'm in no pain now! Negatives are my nurses the first night were both men, and not nurturing at all! I still haven't eaten much although I feel ok. I got on the scale yesterday...I was 301 before my surgery and was 310 last night (wtf, I haven't eaten shit!) but nurses said it's probably from all the iv fluids as I think I've has about 3-4 bags each day. Otherwise, things are ok. I will post again later. Words of advice, if you don't like your nurse, ask for a new one ASAP! I just tolerated my crappy male nurses the first night, and my blood pressure was high all day Saturday from the pain and frustration I endured the first night. My levels are finally normal and I'm pain free because I have awesome nurses that actually listen to my needs. Also, get an abdominal binder ordered by your doc before the surgery so it's already waiting for u when u go to your room, it's a lifesaver believe me guys. Don't try to eat too much even if they tell u otherwise. Listen to your body, you figure it out pretty quick. If all you can do is 30 cc so be it, it will get better. Make sure you have a couple people come visit you, at my lowest points when my family walked in, it changed everything. Also it lets the staff now you have people looking out for you. Otherwise, just relax and pray (prayer warriors only, no offense to the atheists lol). Prayer is the only thing that has gotten me through it all. I believe you guys will have a pleasant experience. Believe it or not, mine is getting better each day. I'll be keeping you guys posted. Until next time sleeve sisters ✌????❤️ -
