    Sleevers Beware -

I'm so glad you posted this! I had my surgery 9/4 also and I have been in the hospital since Saturday and they diagnosed me with pancreatitis and UTI. They won't let me eat or drink anything. I'm scared because I'm not getting in nutrients and I imagine this is also causing more rapid weight loss. My blood pressure has been through the roof as well and they put me on blood pressure meds. They haven't told me precisely what caused this but they claim it may have been something I ate although I followed my diet to a T. I'm literally getting depressed in here because I did what I thought I was supposed to do and yet I'm having complications. How long were you in the hospital? They have me on iv fluids, potassium iv and antibiotic for the UTI.
  3. That unsweetened applesauce is no "sugar free" ????
  4. I'm in the hospital as we speak and my surgery was 9/4. It's the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that are killing me. I can't do the zolfran under the tongue because it makes me nauseous. They gave me the pills to cut and swallow but I can hardly keep down the water to take that. I'm waiting to be transferred back to the hospital where I had my surgery, Cedar Sinai. Didn't expect to be in the hospital 3-4 times within the first 3 weeks. This has been psychologically draining but I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude as much as I can.

    Alcoholic drinks after surgery

Was wondering the same post sleeve. Not a heavy drinker to begin with, but it would be nice to have one here and there when I go to happy hour with my girlfriends...but fortunately I haven't craved alcohol one bit. I would, however, like to know. My doc suggested not to do it for one year, but I got the vibe that this was more about forming bad habits than causing damage to the sleeve/pouch. Although I know some bypassers can dump from alcohol, so in that case I would probably avoid it just to avoid the embarrassment of something going wrong in public. If you do venture out, maybe try at home first so you know what to expect.
  6. FYI this is amberc25, the original poster, but I changed my name for personal reasons...it's me though guys!
  7. They didn't tell me to take the liquid meds before surgery. Those are for after the surgery. Prior to surgery I will take 1 pill with only enough Water as it takes to swallow it. Then they do the surgery 2 hours later. After the surgery they put a patch behind my ear to prevent nausea and have the liquid medicines in case I am still nauseous. They gave me the prescriptions prior to my surgery so I could have them all filled before surgery and I would have the pill I need to take before surgery and they STRESSED I can only have a tiny sip of water. Gotcha!

Sept date I am all set

I wonder why you are so constipated if you've been on liquids. Totally expect constipation after surgery, but before? Wow ????

Sept date I am all set

Applesauce just gave me my first dumping experience, and it was on my approved foods if it's unsweetened. Which this one supposedly was ????
  10. Tmi but I think applesauce just made me dump out the backdoor...didn't expect that! And it was natural unsweetened ????
  11. Thank you so much. This is a very helpful post. I love all of the information. My hospital is giving me some sort of compression hose for my legs which are supposed to prevent blood clots. I've heard of other compression stuff to hold your belly together, but when I mentioned it to my RN, she said that's not good and stop believing what I read online. I can't speak for that RN but if you have a stomach that hangs, the abdominal binder holds you in so you feel less pain. Just imagine your incision pain with you stomach hanging all willy nilly versus is you have something soft but firm enough to hold your belly up. I think healthcare professionals are cutting so many corners, it's ridiculous! Two of the women in my post op support group had major complications and had to get additional procedures on the date of surgery to correct them. Could be just chance, but it also could be how doctors are trying to fit so many of us on one day that they feel rushed and make mistakes. Don't get me wrong, by no means am I suggesting I know more than the professionals. But there is absolutely no way that the binder could be bad for you unless it was dirty and caused an infection of some sort why is rare because they are sterile. But definitely follow their suggestions but when they are pressuring you to walk around you will understand exactly what I'm saying. I has to beg for my binder but I ultimately got it.
  12. Broth and jello count as liquids also
  13. I find it interesting they are telling you to take all these liquid meds just before your surgery when they advise not to have any liquids 12 hours prior. Also I don't think one night is enough, so if you feel you need more time, be vocal about it. I didn't even have protein drink until the end of the day on my day after surgery. I hate the way the healthcare system tries to rush people out, just so we end up right back. But I'm hoping it will be different in your case and you go home feeling fine.
  14. You're definitely not alone and I'm glad you said this! I was sweating like crazy on the toilet too, except mine wasn't soft at all and I've been drinking well over 64oz daily because I'm so thirsty in this heat! My trick is the Water has to be ice cold! If the water gets room temp I put what's remaining back in the freezer and grab another bottle from the freezer. I do this all day until I've consumed 4 of the 16oz bottles, and that adds up to 64oz, not including my Protein Shakes too. You can also add crystal light (lemonade is my fav) and again, I drink it ice cold. I find myself taking baby gulps as opposed to sips lol and I pay for it. I've learned to understand the noises and wait for them to subside before I drink more. I can literally hear it perculating through my system, in a weird way I rely on those noises now lol. You can also add lemons and cucumber to your water, or strawberries. There's not enough sugar in the strawberries to make you sick unless you put too many but I honestly haven't done strawberry water, just the lemon/cucumber water. Ice cold is key! Room temp water makes my tummy feel weird.
  15. Yes, I was sleeved 9/4 and had a hernia removed as well
  16. I'm looking forward to no pain next week. If not I'm gonna have to request more time off work. And I get tired so quickly now! It's a darn shame, I hope that improves this week too ????

    11 Days Out! Too Full!

Yup, completely normal. I feel like I damn near woke up with an eating disorder, I'm completely offput by food. It's not enjoyable anymore, it's a task now! And those doggone vitamins!
  18. This is much easier said than done in my household. Literally everything revolves around food and nobody is willing to make accommodations or changes to suit you. In fact they will actively try to get you to cheat by saying "One piece won't matter" or "Just have a little bit", or "It's only a light beer". Also, when you don't do a lot of physical activities, it's hard to plan family things around them. Hopefully once I start shedding pounds and feel like I can do exercises without hurting myself, I can arrange to do family outings where we are doing things rather than sitting around making each other laugh around food and drinks. Until then, I'm on my own. If I asked my wife to keep cooking oil in a different cupboard, she would refuse. When we talked about this @@Radar I was in denial that I'm in the same situation as you. Except I don't live here, so when I leave I can run my own program, but you clearly live with your wife. I know you say she's not willing, let's hope this changes over time...but this surgery helps you see how people around you really are...who's supportive? Who's judgemental? Who's secretly hoping you fail? I had a friend who seemed so suprised when I told her my surgery went well, not sure why when I mentioned several times I was having my procedure done by one of the best surgeons in the country! Clearly she was banking on having an "I told you so" moment, because she didn't agree with my decision. So yea, it is lonely...which is why I'm so thankful for you guys ❤️
  19. I get this can be frustrating and irritating, but try not to perceive it as lack of support. Having a weight loss surgery is a huge step which changes your entire life, but your family didn't have the surgery - you did. It's great to have friends and family members who understand how hard this process is and who are willing to change their lifestyle with you, but I don't think that's the usual case. Maybe you should just ask your family to be slightly more sensitive and understanding - explain them how you feel. Tell them you need your own kitchen cupboard and fridge shelf so you're not tempted by unhealthy meals they bring into the house. Tell them if they want to buy fast food or sweets, you would like them to pick it up themselves. When I used to diet (I was still living with my parents back then), I knew one way to make them eat healthier food was to cook it myself for all of us. That way I limited the number of temptations around me. And most importantly, come up with some ideas for family activities that don't involve food, so you can all enjoy it and you don't feel left out. Unfortunately food is a huge part of social and family life, but it's not the only one - if you can't make them give up eating during your family time, meet them half way and get them do something where food is just one of the many things to enjoy. That way you can focus on other aspects and stiil have a great time. The thing is, I have my own place! I stayed here because my mom insisted I stay here, because I live up two flights of stairs and my daughter's school is closer to my mom's house. I just assumed by her offering for me to stay here for my recovery that she would try to make this environment as conducive to my needs as possible, but I know you are right! That was unfair for me to expect that, but at the very least I didn't expect her to be asking me to pick things up or use my brand new car to go places to eat when she has a car of her own. It's like they are actually benefitting from me being down, so they can use my car to run around town and eat, and with me being off work I can pick up more crap for her! Maybe I'm being too sensitive lol, I know I'm a brat at times. Also, I'm very independent so being away from mg own home is already hard as it is, I think this just means I need to get better ASAP so I can go to my own comfort zone.
  20. - buying clothes from any store, not just plus size stores - buying lingerie from Victoria's Secret or Frederick's of Hollywood - zip lining in Las Vegas on Fremont Street - being able to walk comfortably in heels; not having to buy wide shoes - getting on rides with my daughter - being a person that works out at least 5 days a week as a lifestyle - getting a tattoo that goes along the sihlouette of my newly shaped body - being able to straighten my hair without "sweating it out" - attracting a different quality of men (still not sure if that will change with my weight loss, but I truly hope so)
  21. Why did I just get excited when I read this..like the trailer to your fav movie was just released lol?!? @@Radar I made two vids so far, but wasn't sure if I'm gonna go public or just document this for myself. But I commend you for being brave enough to share this. I'm about to watch and subscribe now! ????????????????
  22. Well today has brought about more unexpected things... - my back pain has been getting worse by the day. I think it's because I'm sleeping in my moms bed and not my own bed, so my body is not used to this, it's been a week and 2 days...shouldn't this be subsiding by now? - that my family would be pigging out so much! My mom baked a freaking cake the first day I came home! Stating it was for her bday because she was gonna stop pigging out as of this week, mind you her bday is 9/25! Then when that cake was gone, she bought a pound cake and ice cream from the store! She had el pollo loco (fast food) twice since I've been home, and purchased my fav vanilla Wafer Cookies from trader joe's! Then she asked me to pick up a dozen donuts for her this morning...yup, that really happened and I did it, just to prove to myself I can do it! But the freaking icing on the cake...she asked me or she can use MY CAR to go have Thai food at a restaurant tonight, and the whole fam went without me...I can't stand any of them right now lol ???? its not even so much about the food, it's the lack of support. Then I realized my relationship with my mom and brother revolves around food...how are we gonna maintain this now?? - that I would revert back to taking pain meds? The incision pain comes and goes, and the back pain is at a level 8! - that I would definitely need at least two weeks off! I can't imagine going back to work tomorrow! And my surgery date was 9/4, I know I need at least another week off, and I'm gonna ask my doc to put me on modified duty for my first two weeks back (meaning no going out in the field for me...I'm a a children's social worker and my job requires me to make unannounced visits to people's homes to investigate allegations of child abuse...you have to be ready to run at any time basically! Not to mention the driving) but I can use this time to do paperwork (court reports, typing in my contacts, filing, etc) - that I would have such a hard time taking my Vitamins...I'm doing the optisource Multivitamin and it requires you to take 4 a day. I'm lucky if I take 2-3 daily. I have never had all 4 since I've been home because I always fall asleep and they ask you to space out the doses - that having all of you guys would mean so much to me!!! I mean that, every single one of you! If it weren't for this forum, I would be a frwaking nutcase for sure! You guys remind me I'm not crazy, this is normal, and I can do this! - that I am losing about a pound a day! Down to 295! - that I would literally have to force myself to get poop out...I won't mention how, but i got that desperate! Sorry for the long post, but I know this would help someone ❤️

    Help..

Seems a little odd, I never felt hungry from the time I woke up. I get full so easily it's almost unreal, but I love it!
