When People Notice Your Weight Loss
SleeveMe247 replied to SleeveMe247's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for all the replies. Definitely help put thing in perspective. I suppose I will simply say thank you. When I did that on Fri, my friend continued to make comments. As some of you mentioned, I know her intentions were good but it's like "enough already". But I suppose this is something I will have to get used to. -
Stomache pain when eating
SleeveMe247 replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anything that can be chewed is not considered a full liquid. Beans would be more of a "soft" food, and you should be transitioning from full liquid, to puréed foods, then soft foods. So in theory you have another two weeks before you should have things like that. Trust me, I didn't even "cheat" and still ended up in the hospital 4-5 times within my first month just because my body had to learn what I could tolerate, even within those guidelines provided by our surgeon. Also your body is still healing and doing so can cause leaks, etc. so please take it slow, because we'd all hate to see you have any complications that are within our control to prevent. Take care and best of luck to you on this new journey. -
High Protein Pasta

Most likely a place that specializes in organic or healthy foods, like Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joe's or something along those lines. -
Odd cravings..
SleeveMe247 replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been wanting a salad like crazy! And Mexican food in general (margarita included), but I know I won't be having that for a while. I did have chicken tortilla soup (minus the tortilla strips) a couple times but the last time it was too spicy, so that kick ended right away. Mom had some nice cold cuts, Black Forest ham and pepper jack cheese with dark rye bread, and I did crave one of those homemade sandwiches really bad, but I didn't budge. -
High Protein Pasta
SleeveMe247 replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had both the soybean and the black bean, as well as the shiratoki noodles and they are all good. My favorite are the black bean, as the texture is the most "al dente" to me and the shape of the noodles is similar to spaghetti. If I recall, the soybean noodles were similar to fettuccine. But considering we're not supposed to have real pasta for quite some time, they are all great substitutes and good ways to get extra protein in. -
High Protein Pasta
SleeveMe247 replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had them pre-op as my mom has been on Atkins for quite some time, and I love them. Especially because I don't like mushy noodles, the texture is perfect to me. I prefer them over the shiratoki noodles, but those are good also. Especially with spaghetti or cream sauce, not sure if you can have cream sauce but I had it pre-op and it was excellent. -
Me too, I've been in and out about 4-5 times since my surgery on 9/4. I regret my decision daily. I'm losing weight but I feel sick daily and never know how my body will respond to food or even water. They send me home with meds and I end up right back. I pray the figure out what's going on this time. You're not alone!

Throwing up for no reason
SleeveMe247 replied to Daveo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going through this now and have been hospitalized five times since my surgery on 9/4. They never know the cause and keep putting me on meds, but finally they are thinking it may be my gallbladder. I should have results tomorrow after a scan they ran on my gallbladder today. But definitely talk to your doc and go to ER if u need to. You can get dehydrated easily from not being able to hold down liquids. Good luck to u! -
2 wks post rny and feeling like it's a mistake
SleeveMe247 replied to sshield8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's normal to feel this way. I had the sleeve on 9/4 and I find myself regretting it daily, but that's becoming I'm having a lot of complications and I just assumed I would be in the group that has no issues. But these forums truly help a lot! I get on here daily and read through posts like these to maintain my own sanity. Everyone says it gets better...I'm waiting for that part as well. Every week I have to go back to week 2 because I have bad nausea and vomitting. Talk about emotional...I was down right depressed! I honestly never felt depressed as a fat person, I just wanted to loose weight so I have more energy to keep up with my kid. But as some have mentioned, this process exposes a lot of deep rooted issues. Personal challenges, friendships, family support, work environment...it truly makes you rethink everything around you, hence why it's a life change. I believe it will get better. I suppose I had "complications" when I was ok with being fat that I didn't want to be honest about...like only being able to shop certain places, not being able to fit in rides with my kid, spending so much money on food...all sorts of madness that we just learn to deal with. But I believe it will get better, just hang in there! You're not alone ???? -
Maybe I should not have surgery?
SleeveMe247 replied to Jangy03253's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Talk to the scheduler...they can always find a way to fit u in. People will cancel, reschedule, etc. Trust me, you have to be assertive. I don't know you but you seem like a non-confrontational person...but when it comes to your health, you have to speak up and be your own advocate. I'm sure if you tell them what you've told us, and they know they are at risk of losing a patient, they will fit u in. With thanksgiving around the corner, somebody is gonna cancel lol...keep hope alive girl lol! -
Food Funeral, Last Meals?
SleeveMe247 replied to nicash4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in Cali so I had in n out a few times actually, double double with grilled onions and animal style fries. Crazy part is I couldn't even finish it. I was already mentally prepared to have the surgery. I had lots of Mexican food, the best of which were seafood enchiladas...they had shrimp, scallops and lobster in them...that was freaking amazing! I had a cucumber margarita...amazing! chicken nachos...man, I had everything I thought I would want lol. It got kinda burnt out toward the end and stuff didn't even taste as good to me, that's when I knew I was ready. These days I've just been craving salad! Particularly one with chicken and avocado, which I'll be able to have in a week or so! -
Cravings - Pre versus Post
SleeveMe247 replied to goblue9280's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been wanting a salad like crazy, and im five weeks post op. In the next couple weeks I'll finally be able to have one! Can't wait! Pre-op I craved Mexican food all the time. I had several "food funerals" abs every now and then I want some, but I'm at a stage now where I can make modified recipes, just no tortillas and far less cheese than I used pre-surgery. And as someone else mentioned, I eat so little now that when I am able to eat "regular" again, I would never eat the way I did before. -
What do you drink?
SleeveMe247 replied to kradtke5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mostly water, diet cranberry juice when I was in and out the hospital, and today I had diet raspberry Snapple for the first time and I loved it! I also drink lemonade crystal light sometimes. No alcohol for me, I'm only 5 weeks post op and have no desire at this time. -
Maybe I should not have surgery?
SleeveMe247 replied to Jangy03253's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm just curious, what made u decide on the duodenal switch? I rarely see this one chosen. I'm really interested to know how you and your doc decided on this one. I'm assuming this is the one you are doing based on the forum this was posted in. Also, women are very territorial over the men in their lives, including sons, brothers, etc. They are clearly jealous because you have "taken him away". So why let them when if this is the man you love? Stay with your man, let him know how much it bothers you, give him an opportunity to do something about it, and if all else fails, it's you and your man against the world. Truthfully, family can cause more headaches than adding positivity in many cases, so don't feel too bad. At least you have your man, which is more than some have. You'll be fine! -
Gallbladder sludge, Actigall, Protonix and Sucrafate Oh My!
SleeveMe247 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, For those that have followed my journey, you are aware that I have been in and out the hospital from the time I was released post op. I followed my diet according to the instructions I was given, yet I still has complications. I was told during my last hospitalization that I had pancreatitis due to elevated lipase levels. I stayed in this hospital for 3-4 days with no food by mouth and eventually went home. Not even a week later, I'm back in the hospital! They ruled out pancreatitis as my lipase and amalyse levels went down. I was told there were no gallstones showing on my ultrasound. Today I was finally told I have sludge in my gallbladder and may have to take Actigall for a while to break down the sludge. Further, I was told I have severe acid reflux and would be taking Protonix (to break down the acid) and Sucrafate (to coat the stomach). I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with any of these drugs and/or situations? Also I see mixed reviews about keeping one's gallbladder versus having it removed. I was told that if I don't see improvement after taking these meds that my gallbladder may need to be removed in the future. I've been through so much already that I can't imagine going through more pain not another surgery. Not sure if it's best to take the meds and see what happens, or just beg to have my gallbladder removed so I can go back to my normal life. Please share any thoughts and experiences you all have had with this. Thanks! -
Approved - but Should I Go through with it?
SleeveMe247 replied to wwboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At this moment after having been in this hospital four times within three weeks of surgery, I'm 100% regretting this decision. I'm waiting to get to the good part, but as I lay in a hospital bed writing this, I feel that I was much happier before the surgery. I've been told I will feel different in the long run, but even after having lost over 30 lbs in less than a month, I still don't feel good about the decision. Being away from my daughter and my kids on my case load (I'm a children's social worker), this feels like torture! I'm praying it gets better and I can go back to my regular life. As I was never a "lazy" fat person, but just ate really bad, mostly out of convenience for the sake of time while working, raising a kid and doing a master's program. Looking back now, maybe I could have just buckled down and made time for a healthy lifestyle. At your bmi, I think it's worth it to give one more conscious effort...as you are just below the threshold for what is considered morbidly obese which is bmi of 40 or higher. But if your heart tells you this is the way to go, by all means you have lots of support here. Just thought I'd offer a different, honest perspective. -
Learn from my mistake
SleeveMe247 replied to Rani Summers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just came to the hospital Sun night and was admitted. I had severe nausea and vomiting, and I have been on full liquids for almost a week although I am one month out. I was told last week that I had pancreatitis and they recommended I fast for a couple days then work my way back up to softs. Sunday was the first day I tried softs again and as soon as the food entered my mouth, before I even got a chance to swallow it, I became very sick. I had no food in the hospital yesterday and I'm supposed to be on bariatric clears today to see how I tolerate them. That's why I recommend the OP not to overeat so fast...because even when you follow the directions you can end up sick. So just imagine when you're not following instructions. -
Learn from my mistake
SleeveMe247 replied to Rani Summers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know everyone keeps asking the same question, but not sure what or why you were eating at less than a week out. I followed every instruction and I'm still back in the hospital, so I highly recommend you follow your doctors instructions to a T if you want a safe, speedy recovery. -

My love for Starbucks!
SleeveMe247 replied to Nikkip35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes they do. I used to buy sugar free caramel syrup by the bottle. Here is a link: http://store.starbucks.com/starbucks-sugar-free-caramel-syrup-000368077.html You can buy the sugar free syrup, but they don't use that to make the drink. Not trying to be critical, just trying to share information so no one has issues if they have "dumping" issues or trying to cut back on sugar. It wouldn't taste nearly as good if they used all sugar free syrups...the caramel they use has sugar. Google "skinny caramel macchiato" and the Starbucks site will show you the nutritional facts. -
My love for Starbucks!
SleeveMe247 replied to Nikkip35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that's changed because my daughters friend is a barista now and said they can do that one sugar free (I asked) but she certainly could have been mistaken. If you look on their website, they use sugar free vanilla syrup but the caramel is not sugar free. They minimize the amount of sugar in the skinny version by using the sugar free vanilla syrup instead of the caramel syrup only. Trust me, I checked again before I posted this. Not a lot of sugar but it still has some. -
My love for Starbucks!
SleeveMe247 replied to Nikkip35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They don't have sugar free caramel at Starbucks. Used to be a barista...the caramel definitely has sugar. The other flavors come sugar free. -
Everyone doesn't have loose skin. I've seen quite a few YouTube vids where people minimized it tremendously by starting weight training as soon as they were cleared to exercise. One woman said she did 4-5 sets of 10 reps using 4 lb weights of arms strength training exercises, and this chick ended up with muscular arms a year post op. Not a single bit of flab. Most of the flab would be in the legs and tummy, but that can also be combated with major sit-ups and ab exercises, and leg weights. One would have to be extremely dedicated, but it is definitely doable. My plan is to get a personal trainer with the money I'm saving from no longer having fast food and eating out.

I would do the sleeve over the band for sure, but I would wait until you guys have more kids if that's what you want to do. My surgeon specifically said they don't recommend surgery now if you plan to have kids within the next two years. Plus I wouldn't want to risk gaining the weight back after pregnancy after having surgery. But I know it's a catch 22 because being overweight makes it harder to get pregnant.

Unflavored protein?
SleeveMe247 replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the gnc unflavored but I have yet to use it. I just can't imagine that it really doesn't change the taste of things. I have to decide soon if I'm gonna keep it or take it back.
