Drinking after eating
kmc0812 replied to RGraham87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not that it will kill you, but drinking after eating flushes the food out of the pouch, making it so that you feel hungry again. Basically, it's like sabotage to the surgery. Once you get into the routine of waiting 30 minutes after eating to drink, it won't seem like too big of a deal. =) You just gotta keep the routine up and re-train your brain. -
Hey everyone! I have unfortunately caught a stomach bug from my boyfriend causing me to have radical bowel movements and extreme nausea accompanied with some vomiting. I am finally able to keep water down, so I'm trying to dehydrate, but I'm still extremely nauseated. I was wondering what you all take/took if/when this happens? I heard that Peptobismol is a no-no because it has NSAIDS in it. Please help? Thank you!

Congratulations! -
Thank you both! I ended up taking a Zofran tablet I had leftover, and will try watered-down pedialyte.

*rehydrate. Not dehydrate.

Weird taste in your mouth..
kmc0812 replied to _Brooke_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The taste can also be metallic, like you've been sucking on nickles and pennies. And absolutely!!! Flavoring in water definitely helps get the taste out, if only temporarily. -
Weird taste in your mouth..
kmc0812 replied to _Brooke_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amen, honey! Hahaha I've lost 48 pounds since the 3rd of September! Granted, I had complications, but the surgery is doing it's job as my tool. The taste will go away eventually. -
May I ask what happened? I had the same issue. Part of my healing intestine began to stricture around the rest of my intestine and stop the blood flow/create a blockage. My bypass was on the 3rd of September, and my emergency surgery was on the 7th. I slept on a recliner until last night. I tried sleeping on my bed, and I managed, but my back and hips hurt so badly because I spent a month in the recliner. I got my G-tube taken out last Tuesday, and my 21 staples out today, and am now not as nervous to sleep on my side or tummy. However, I still don't have very strong ab muscles due to being cut in half. Keep positive, and only do what your body tells you it's comfortable doing. Don't over-do it or push yourself.

Weird taste in your mouth..
kmc0812 replied to _Brooke_'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does it kind of taste like nail polish remover? Or bitter? And is there kind of a coating of the awful taste in your mouth? It's called ketosis. Your body, in it's new weight loss, is releasing ketones which can cause that awful taste. I'm a month out and still taste it occasionally, but it used to be so bad that I'd feel like puking in the mornings. -
Hey everyone. I am technically two and a half weeks post-op. I am feeling extremely emotional. I notice that I am irritable above all else, but also feel like I just want to cry. I have an IUD and haven't really PMSed for over a year, but this feels a lot like when I did. However, I wasn't ever this emotional even when going through that time of month. I'm just so confused. Do any of you feel overly-emotional? If so, how do you deal with your emotions? Any tips or tricks for keeping positive and not letting the emotions get to me? Thanks guys!

Help pls horrible pain 1wk out
kmc0812 replied to ccdomaika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same pain. It would wake me up out of a dead sleep. I thought I was just being a sissy to the pain. Due to my mother's wishes, I went to the emergency room, had a CT scan, and everything looked normal. Two days later, they went in for and emergency diagnostic surgery. It turned out that part of my intestine that was trying to heal decided to begin to stricture around the rest of my intestine and cause a serious blockage. I pray that this isn't what you're going through. If it doesn't start to feel better, please be safe rather than sorry and go to the doctor. My bypass surgery was on the third. Emergency surgery was on the seventh. I finally got to go home on the sixteenth. -
Hey everyone. I had surgery on the 3rd. My incision sights don't hurt, nor does sitting up too badly. However, the gas bubbles are killing me! Are there any special tricks you guys can offer to help me try to get rid of them? I've been walk-walk-walking, and it seems to help for about twenty minutes to a half an hour, and then they become excruciating again. Any tips would be great! Thank you!

Two Weeks From H-E-Double Hockey Sticks
kmc0812 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have been following everyone's journeys for about three months now. I am 22 years old, and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 3, 2015! I am very excited! =) I have a very supportive boyfriend and wonderful family, so for that I am very blessed. I am currently on the two-week Liver Shrinking Diet (which I call LSD to get a laugh from people). Are any of you currently doing LSD as well? If so, what are all of your trials and triumphs? I have not cheated once so far. The first three days were the worst, even though I'm only on day four..... =P If there are things you are doing to keep your mind off of bad foods or ways that keep you inspired to continue, please share them! Any words of advice are welcome as well! Thank you. I look forward to chatting with you guys! -
You can do it! Just keep reminding yourself that your life and health is worth so much more than food. As for the pickles, I'd watch the caloric intake, sugars, and sodium. Keep that heart healthy for your surgery!

Does anyone feel pressured by surgeon to have the bypass (instead of sleeve)
kmc0812 replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did feel that way. But ultimately I know that this will be the best option for me in regaining my health. If you aren't comfortable, tell your surgeon that it's not what you want to do. You are your best advocate. You know you and your body better than anyone else on this earth. Do what feels right for you. By "this", I mean bypass. =) -

Awesome! I know that feeling. I purposely put chocolates in front of me while I was watching tv. I know this is weird, but I would see a commercial with a fit lady and then look at the chocolates. I kept telling myself "Chocolates or that body. Those are your options." It definitely tested my willpower out! Congratulations! Can't wait to share this journey with you! -

Thank goodness, because I was so worried that I was suffering from some sort of pre-surgical anxiety induced depression, even though I've never been depressed. Lol -

You are all awesome! Thank you! I've definitely experienced the head ache and hating life. Hahaha my poor boyfriend is a saint. I've been more emotional the lady five days than I have been the last two years. Have you experienced this at all? The Mexican Tortilla Soup Broth sounds sloppily good! I'll have to try it! =) Walker is my middle name! Hahaha I walk at least half an hour a day, so I'm glad to hear it helps. Thank you all for your support! I can't wait to share all of our journeys! =) *last five days. Hahaha oops.
