You and your new post op ass, a guide.
Dar200 replied to winklie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suffer from the same affliction of not being able to use any other toilet in that way. I can't imagine sand up there. I had tried four tablespoons which only made my tummy rumble. I'll try two days in a row since the Squatty potty has not arrived and I'm having that problem, again. -
I had that kind of pain with kidney stones. Simple X-ray shows kidney stones but it took two hospital stays for anyone to do an X-ray or ct of my kidneys. Try to have someone look at that. And keep asking doctors what it is. If it is dehydration, they can tell that too.

Op date19/2/2015 for gastric bypass
Dar200 replied to sylvi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! I had gastric bypass on October 26 so I haven't had very much experience yet but I am 63 years old so thought I would respond. My high weight was 278 and current weight is 226. I have arthritis so chronic pain is a big problem for me. Over the past year, my blood pressure was creeping up and up. But in August, I started having horrible pain in my knees so I went to the pain management specialist I've seen for the past 12 years. He told me that if I didn't have weight loss surgery right away, I would be in a wheelchair on a morphine pump within a year or so. I was stunned, but that was the reality of my joints crumbling under that much weight. I saw my surgeon the following week and started my pre surgery diet. There were a few hoops to jump through for insurance purposes and I was scheduled for surgery. So far, my blood pressure has dropped to normal and my pain level is lessening. I still have a ways to go, but I feel better about myself than I have in decades. Good luck on your journey! -
I see wig shopping in my future.

Why we fail to continue succeeding:

Please don't ever leave, Winklie. You have encouraged me in so many ways, you have no idea. I reread the 1% article and think it is a great way to start the new year. I've gotta make that list to start. Great idea. See, you've helped one person. -
I'm really concerned about this. I think I will have to buy a wig. I'm taking Biotin and will purchase some colleges as well. Not looking forward to this part of the journey. ????

Question about weight gain while on gabapentin
Dar200 replied to Djmohr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have severe osteo arthritis in my spine and knees. I'm currently taking Lyrica daily plus Vicodin daily. I have a very low threshold for pain. Just can't tolerate. I have a spinal cord stimulator for my lower back and knees. I get injections for my low back pain - I'm still recovering from two sacral fractures. The very best response I've had is with the epidural injections. My doc does the left and right separately, two weeks apart. I am sedated during this so basically I go in stooped over in pain and walk out upright. The injection site may be tender for a day or two. The relief I get from the epidurals is magic for me and the relief lasts for three to six months. People respond to treatments differently, but I recommend at least trying epidurals one time to see if you can get some relief. I wish you well. And Happy Holidays! -
I would say well done! I have absolutely experienced the feeling of eating something "bad" and that has blown my whole diet. But that was before WLS. I don't think in those terms any longer. I'm 8 weeks out from gastric bypass surgery and at this point I feel like I am running experiments on what my pouch will accept that is high protein. If I crave something sweet I make fat free, sugar free pudding with Fair Life milk and I add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to it. I get the maximum amount of protein out of everything I eat. Most of the time my carb intake consists of fruit because my pouch says no grains but sliced up pear is fine. I count the carbs per day and keep it under 50 grams per day. I think you made excellent choices in a difficult situation when you are experimenting with what is going to work for you long term. Does that make sense? We are still in the learning curve, you did great!

SO Tired of Protein Drinks!
Dar200 replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to try Greek yogurt. How is it different than regular yogurt? Are there sugar free flavored types I can try with adding my own unflavored protein powder? Thanks for any input. -

After trying probiotics, various laxatives and MOM, and still trying so hard to poop, I decided it was time for the Squatty Potty. I ordered it today and I hope my ass will thank me. I've had constipation problems my whole life and the Squatty Potty has such glowing reports, it's just time. -
I'm curious about this too. Twice in the last five days I've been in close quarters with people, not aware that I smelled like so much BO. Worst was Christmas Day. You are probably thinking, how can she not smell herself? I don't have a sensitive smeller. I didn't notice until I was in the car driving home. I'm so embarrassed that I can't even think of a way to apologize. Christmas Day! I'm horrified. I'm eight weeks out from surgery. I'm washing the same, same deodorant. I got some much stronger deodorant today and m going to wash and reapply several times a day. I've been sweating excessively too. Like hot flashes but hot flashes on steroids. But I haven't had those in about 15 years. I'm thinking it has to be related to hormones. I've lost about 52 pounds and I figure all that fat had to be hanging onto hormones that my body is now throwing off. Then the odor causing bacteria are having a sweat party and making me smell just awful. Anyone else have anything like this?

Overall how have your moods changed?
Dar200 replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was very moody PRE op, but not post op. I think I had a moment the second day home of What Have I Done to Myself. But it only lasted 15 minutes. I basically feel better about myself than I have in decades. I'm eight weeks out and my mood is incredibly stable. I have a history of depression and anxiety (since I was 14). I am on meds but I see an improvement in my mood since surgery. Good luck with your adventure! And happy holidays! -
Pedro - keep reaching out or just reading on this forum. I learned more here than anywhere else. And you will always find support here. Merry Christmas to you!

Glad it's going so well! I barely remember the day of surgery and I had it at7:30 in the morning! I don't know how you are typing. Lol!

Maybe it will help to have your ex-wife read about metabolic syndrome (explains why obese people can't lose weight for good without WLS) and read about success rates of people who have weight loss surgery versus people who try to lose weight without it. This information changed my mind about having surgery. Success rate without surgery - 5%. Success rate with surgery - I think was 80 to 85%. I wish I could tell you the article where I read this. It was my aha moment. I'm also curious why she is pleading with you to cancel. Is it out of fear you may die from it? I know in my case I was more certain I would die of a stroke or heart attack before long. Also, my bones and joints were wearing out and just couldn't carry all of my weight around any longer. I always felt like I was a failure if I didn't lose weight on my own. I finally decided I had to have surgery when my pain management doctor told me I would be in a wheel chair on a morphine pump within about a year if I didn't have the surgery right away. That blew me away. I'm now 2 months post op, down 51 pounds and like everyone says - best decision I ever made. Good luck and have a wonderful holiday!

I was hoping to get rid of mine as well, but didn't. My surgeon said that if I had current problems with it he would remove it. Otherwise no go. My mother had hers removed back in the early 90's and I remember how sick she was after so I was a little relieved surgeon didn't want to remove it. But back then, it was an open surgery which seems to make an enormous difference in post op pain/problems. Laparoscopic surgery is such a miracle for recovery. I guess that ages me. Oh well, it's nice to appreciate it.

I felt great in the hospital and then about a week later I was wondering what I had done to myself. It lasted a few hours of being freaked out about feeling so rotten. But then the next day I went to the doctor because I felt like I had a virus and I had bronchitis. Never had much of a fever, but yuck! Hope you feel better soon and have a wonderful holiday. Oh, I was going to say that one reason I felt well in the hospital was I was on IV fluids, antibiotics and pain meds all on IV. Once i was home a couple of days without that IV support I felt sort of wrecked. But it passed.

I'm seven weeks post op and I was miserable emotionally for about ten days. Once the discomfort calmed down and I could get my fluids and protein in I just felt tons better. -
Good for you! You look awesome!

Coconut cashew here. Had my first one today. I usually can't eat more than a half a bar at a time because I feel like I'm on the verge of dumping. Coconut cashew tastes like real food, no overwhelming sweetness flavor.

What you are experiencing is very normal. It's good that you can tell you are hungry. It's normal to be scared by it. This is the craziest roller coaster ride I've ever been on.
-
I can't say I've really had a hunger pain so much as hunger notice. Like my pouch said its time to feed me. My pouch is very bossy. I did have a few days where I really wanted some tacos. This was like days 3 and 4. Of course I would not have been able to eat a taco and that craving died down. It's called head hunger when you feel hungry for a real meal so close to surgery. Because your pouch really isn't ready for that but I really wanted a taco! I remembered some of the people talking about this and it made it much easier to deal with that hunger alarm of I gotta have a taco. Before I started my program, if that thought came in my mind I would be in a restaurant eating tacos that day. I've changed the way I think about food. If I feel like I'm hungry now, I eat protein right away. Or drink water. Sometimes we feel hunger but we are really needing fluids. I'm sure there are people on here who can explain this better. This has just been my experience. I hope all goes well for you!
