good luck queenie's. We know you will do great!

    Less than a week!

My surgery is on Monday 10/26 at 7:00 am. I'm nervous, excited and just generally feel like I've lost my mind but yesterday I decided I didn't care that I'm crazy right now. I guess I just see it as part of this process because I've heard a lot of people say they are really stressed and somewhat nuts by this time. I'm just hanging in there. Definitely looking forward to Monday!
  3. Oh bless your heart! You will certainly feel better in the morning.

    I'm approved!

Congrats on approval and surgery date. Sometimes that feels like it will never happen and then boom! You're approved and ready to go. That's nice to look forward and see good things in the future!
  5. Or maybe some of the patches for nausea? I'm so sorry you are going thru that. I think being that nauseous is just about the worst I've ever felt in my life.
  6. Zofran does nothing for me. I Insist on Phenergan. They don't like to prescribe it because it causes drowsiness but the times I've needed it I was so thankful to feel drowsy and be able to sleep. It is an old drug, originally used as an antihistamine. So it is very inexpensive and works like a miracle for me.
  7. I hadn't thought about missing those powders with plain Greek yogurt. Can't wait to try it. Post op.

    Pistachios! Definitely downfall

My surgery is on 10/26. Thr thought of pistachios is making me drool. Lol
  9. I'm scheduled for the 26th too! I also am freaking out. I finally calmed down today but my thoughts are so scattered. I have arthritis and had to give up my anti inflammatory meds. I had horrible pain at first but that is sort of calming down now. I don't know answers for the post op but it seems like everyone on this site has experienced the same pre op sort of things. I know I am. I thought I broke my computer and rushed out and bought a new one yesterday. I returned it this morning because my neighbor said, look I can fix this. I said, no it's as dead as a door nail. She fixed it in 60 seconds. I didn't even think to take it to be repaired! All of the people I chat with or follow say it really does get better post op. There is some physical healing that goes on in the beginning of course, but I'm ready to face it. I'm finally having this surgery because my knees are going downhill really fast. I went to my pain management doctor and he told me, you will be on morphine and in a wheel chair within a couple of years if you don't go have gastric bypass now. I started talking about some new diet and he said, no more diets have the surgery. I don't want a wheelchair or morphine, so I'm going to the hospital on Monday with a smile on my face. I hope it helps you in some way to know that a lot of people have gone through the steps you are taking and they came out really glad they did it. And saying that it was all worth it.
  10. You said liquid but I have noticed that some doctors require a specific protein liquid. I love Premier Protein in chocolate and I just discovered Isopure (in grape frost) at my grocery store. The Isopure is radically different than the type of protein shakes I had been using. It's premade (so is Premier Protein), comes in a variety of fruit favors, has a lot of protein, and it is really yummy and filling to me. Those are my suggestions for protein drinks. My other suggestion is that you call your surgeon and see if you can get a medication for nausea. It doesn't seem to me that you would want to go into surgery feeling weak and nauseated. I hate that nausea feeling!
  11. @@Tina - I've had some questions nausea but drinking cool water helps me. I almost felt like I was dehydrated. What type of pre-op plan are you on?

    V A authorization

Hi! I recall a video I saw about a month ago online featuring a 65 year-old Vet who had bariatric surgery and was very successful at losing weight. I've been searching everywhere for it. Haven't located it yet, but did a Google search on "bariatric surgery veteran" and it pulled up U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on the topic of bariatric surgery. It lists out the requirements for qualifying for the surgery. I will keep trying to find the video of the gentleman who had bariatric surgery and did so well. Good luck!
  13. I'm scheduled the 26th. I'm ready already. Haha
  14. I thought I would try adding in the protein drinks because I'll be using them a lot pre-op and post-op. I'm just glad they did the trick for me.

    Emotional issues

I started doing food funerals before my first appointment with my surgeon. About two weeks of it and I made myself so sick! I was ready to get focused after that.
  16. I've had the same problem. For me I think it has to do with my carb addiction. When I eat high protein low carb I feel energized and healthy for about a week. Then I don't want to eat all that protein and I feel like I'm being bad if I eat carbs. Meat will just sort of gross me out. It happened in my second week and I started feeling so weak, and I noticed in my food journal I was down to about 700 or 800 calories a day I thought, this is not good for me. I can't go into surgery feeling this rotten. So I stated adding some carbs back in, then more protein and it took about a week for me to feel ok again. The thing that helped me the most was to add another one or two protein drinks to each day. I ended up losing 17 pounds. In four weeks. I stumbled on what really worked for me. The shake I always have is chocolate Premier Protein. I'm on my last week before surgery and that is what I'm having each day along with small serving of veggies and some chicken or turkey. My surgeon usually has someone on the pre-op diet for two weeks but told me to do one week and he's ready to do the surgery. I hope it goes well. Have you found a protein drink you like yet? I tried Isopure grape frost yesterday. So good. Both the Isopure that comes in fruit flavor sand the Premier Protein are ready made. No mixing involved. I guess I had heard that fluids, protein and vitamins are the areas that are critical after surgery so much that I just headed that direction. I hope this helps you some.

    Emotional issues

thanks for sharing that. I'm on day 2 of pre-op diet and I have been certain all day that I have lost my mind and that I should just go eat a big plate of Mexican food and then have some cake for dessert. Then I decided that I have really done that enough. It never makes any situation better and because it makes me bigger, I'm in even more pain. Now I can't wait. My surgery is next Monday and I imagine I'll change my mind about 60 more times between now and then. But I'm going to have the surgery and do everything I can to make this work for me.
  18. Good luck Lisa Marie! Onward to your new life!
  19. we will be on the same day now. Just so you know you aren't alone.

    Surgery Date

Congrats on your surgery date! That's very exciting news. A three day prep diet doesn't sound so bad either! Best wishes on your journey.
  21. I've been using Sweetleaf Water Drops to add to water. Yum. I'm assuming you would be able to add something like this to your protein powder and water. Water Drops are made with Stevia which is a plant that happens to be sweet but with no carbs, no calories. A couple of different companies make this sort of thing, this is just my favorite. That's about all I have as far as recipes go.

Does anyone feel weak or sick?

I'm glad you are both better. Dehydration is dangerous.

    Anyone start Lyrica after bypass?

I have been taking Lyrica for many years. During that time I have lost weight and regained it just like all yo yo dieters do. When I first started taking it, I don't think I had any gain or change in appetite. Just my personal experience. And it really really helps pain relief.
