I am getting a bit worried about my "tool". I am down 83 pounds since October of this year. I was originally 406 and am now 323. This last week I have been exceptionally hungry. I'm by no means eating like i used to but it feels like i'm eating a lot compared to what my new normal has become. I usually do a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch and a 1/4-1/2 cup dinner. I met with my doc and nut a few weeks ago and they said if i was hungry throughout the day (like i had mentioned I was starting to be) that it was okay to have a little something. It wasn't a snack so much as an additional meal. So a piece of string cheese or lunch meat here and there has been what I've been doing. Tonight i was freezing and decided to have chili for dinner. I initially had my normal 1/4 cup but was still hungry a half hour later, so I had another 1/4. Then an hour later still hungry so I finished the last 1/2 cup. I know in the grand scheme of things, it's not a ton of food but i'm worried. I'm so proud of how far I've come, not only with the weight loss but with healthy eating and working out. I hope this is not a sign of life to come.

female only When you are too big to manage your period...
Katsitsyahawe posted a topic in The Gals' Room
I have been over weight my entire life. consequently (or not, not sure), my periods have always been sporadic to non-existent. The last say seven years, I get a period maybe 2 times a year and it's for 2 days or so. I used to use tampons and it was no big deal. Honestly, I kinda liked not having to deal with it. I have always had the cramps and pms all year long though. So this last year as my weight hit an all time high, I can no longer maneuver enough to use a tampon. But no biggie as I don't really get periods right? WRONG.... this last week has been interesting. Sooo, I am 8 days into my pre-op diet and the last 3 days my period has made an appearance. My period seems to not be leaving and I am using pads. problem is, my thighs are so close together that my pad which starts out as wide and a useful tool turns into this smashed-bunched-up-straw-like thing once I put on my underwear! Rendering it pretty in effective. I am not sure what to do! I have ruined a few pairs of pants already and am completely self conscious when i leave the house. Any suggestions? -
So I'm 3 weeks post op and eating soft foods. My birthday is November 17. My family and friends want to have a get together with appetizer type food for them ( a meal for me lol ) and do presents. They keep asking what they could make for me because they want to support me and include me like normal. Ideas???!!!!

So I had my sleeve done on Oct. 14 of this year. I had my two week follow up last Friday. That day they said I could start on 1/4 c to 1/2 c soft foods for dinner with protein shakes for breakfast and lunch. The first couple days I was lucky if I managed 2 tbsp. gradually I made my way to 1/4 c. But today all of a sudden I am sooo hungry. Yes I know a lot of it could be head hunger but it's not all mental. I am really hungry. I are dinner about an hour and a half ago. 2 oz grilled chicken, tbsp refried beans and 1 tsp plain yogurt. All approved food. I'm still hungry. Is this common with others? Advice? Also I hit the stall I heard about in weight loss. After losing 43 lbs I haven't lost anything this week. But good news haven't gained either. Just looking for words of comfort. If someone else has experienced this or the hunger will pass. Anything I guess.

I did it! I actually went through with the surgery... Oct 14th

My surgery went perfect. They said there was no complications and that I am healing well. Yesterday was the first day after my surgery and it was very hard. I was in a lot of pain and had terrible heartburn which caused more pain and nausea. But they kept me in the hospital until they figured out the right medicines to give me. This morning I woke up like a whole new person! I am still sore where they cut my stomach but it's nothing I can't handle. I am just worried about getting all my fluids in. it seems like and impossible task to drink so much Water when my stomach can only handle a tiny sip at a time! -
I have 2 days until my surgery and cheated on my pre-op diet. Not only did i cheat but I cheated with an extra large portion. Let me first say, I am not on here to look for acceptance for this or anyone condoning cheating. I don't know what I am posting this for, other than to be accountable to someone somewhere. I am in tears and feeling hopeless. I know this surgery is going to save my life in the long run and I know I truly want it and am ready for it. I understand my emotional eating enough to be aware of all this. When it comes down to it, I simply said "f**k it, go ahead and get it out of your system now, because you are NOT going to mess up after surgery!" Nevertheless, I feel guilty and especially, ashamed, for my actions. I don't know what else to say other than thanks for reading and thanks for participating in this forum so there is a place to open up about these issues.

When you are too big to manage your period...
Katsitsyahawe replied to Katsitsyahawe's topic in The Gals' Room
Thank you so much ladies.... if anything, it's nice to know others have been in this situation. I already went to the store and purchased the overnights that were mentioned. But wouldn't you know it...now my period is GONE!!! It will show it's mischievous face again and I will be prepared... I hope. -
When you are too big to manage your period...

I thought of depends, but have not seen any that would fit me yet. I can however help in the peeing in a cup department. Next time you have to do that, ask for a "hat". Not sure how it got it's name, but it sits on the toilet and collects the sample. then you can pour it into the sample cup. No mess, no fuss. I always tell them I have trouble guaging the right place to put it and end up missing the cup completely, because let's face it, sometimes I am jsut now brave enough to say "hey, i'm too big to put a cup between my legs dude!" here is a link so you can see what it looks like. I just googled urine sample hat and picked the first result. http://www.vitalitymedical.com/kendall-specimen-collection-hat.html -

Preparing for the Pre-op Diet and Post-op Life change
Katsitsyahawe posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been reading up on VSG like an obsessed person for the past two weeks. I have watched countless videos and YouTube videos, read numerous blogs, websites and forums. I am already in the process of VSG surgery. When I met with my NUT, I was not given a special diet, just told to log my food. I did. The next NUT appointment, she reviewed my month long log and said I made some pretty good choices, that I should just be more strict on myself and not "slip" every now and then, like I was. My doctors also are always telling me to up my activity. Problem with that is the vicious cycle of being too fat to move, so you sit, get depressed, eat, get in good mood, eventually talk yourself into moving and exercising and then hurt yourself or can't exercise for any amount of time worthwhile because im too fat. And the cycle continues. Anyway.... back to the original thought and question.... based on this information and all I have learned the last few weeks, I am wanting to change my eating habits now in hopes it will help me lose a little weight to help me move more and get on the right track for surgery. I have seen how other's are eating Protein bars and consuming Protein shakes as Meal Replacements. The common set up I am noticing is 2 protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars, and a low-carb dinner. My question is, how do I know what kind of Protein shake to look for? A powder that you mix with something else or a premade shake? What should the nutrition facts be on the shake or bar? Should it be whey protein? how much protein do I shoot for? Currently, if I have not eaten a substantial meal and only have had small bites or Snacks, I get shaky and light headed (no, not diabetic, am checked often!) So the thought of only drinking a shake and then 4 hours later another shake, makes me a bit nervous. Tips? Advice from personal experience? I know you all are not medical professional people, but just hearing other approaches helps. Thanks in advance! -
How can I prepare for my post-op life?
Katsitsyahawe posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I am in the middle of my insurance requirements for surgery, do not have a date yet, but my surgeon's office is predicting December. So, in an effort to be up front, I am broke pretty much all the time currently. I mean my bills are paid but that's about it. I want to start trying Protein shakes and hopefully even begin a regular diet of using them before surgery. So far all i have seen for protein powders are giant canisters. I have never had Protein powder or shakes, so I have no idea what I like and what I don't. Is there a way to try different options on a very small budget? I am not required to start a liquid diet yet, just 2 weeks before surgery but have failed at losing any weight so far. I'm hoping adding Protein Shakes may help with some loss before surgery. I feel hungry often. even after eating a full meal, about 45 minutes later I am hungry enough again to eat a sandwich and a large glass of Water. I just want the hunger to go away. I feel like I have completely given up on watching what I eat since I found out I can have surgery. Any advice? Constructive criticisms? Support?- 4 replies
