Things you wish you'd known.
Pedro Valle-Inclan replied to MinaDina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah to the above message! Perhaps the biggest most wonderful change gthat I didn't see coming is the absense of pain or the great lessening of it. Joints, back, everything just doesn't hurt like before not carrying that horrendous weight around. I no longer live on advils and stuff like that. But yes I second the wish I hadn't waited so long, I'm 60 and absolutely damage was done to the joints under all that weight. I've had to learn to modify greatly HOW I exercise. And one other thing that I love: the damn operation seems to have sort of turned me into a vegetarian. meats just don't go down or sit well, so it's just not a big deal. I'd always sort of flirted with the idea of not eating meat but this has made that very easy to do -

I had only 9 days off to go back to teaching and it was ok though I would have preferred a bit more. Ok here's the scariest thing of all: At 5 months post op I can now see how people go through all this just to gain every pound back! Period. I've just gained back almost 10 and it scared the crap out of me cuz now I see that this operation is only a helping tool. By itself if you revert to your old eating habits you'll easily be fat as hell again. I'm going back to pre-op diet today. Scary as hell, this reality stuff -

Do you think I'll be ok?
Pedro Valle-Inclan replied to jennmonterrozo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Of course, not a problem. You'll encounter a number of people who will attempt to baby you on this issue, including yourself, but don't pay any attention to them; yes you'll have no problem doing the online courses -

loose skin: what to do-your experiences
Pedro Valle-Inclan posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi Friends, so I'm 4 and a half months post gastric bypass, down right around my goal weight though I have gained for the first time, about 5 lbs, but we're holding well. Anyway, believe it or not I never considered that there would be loose skin/stretch marks like there are now, and well I don't them much.... so I asked the surgery team what can be done and she said I have to wait another year and half then ask again....she said 2 years at goal weight THEN they talk surgery to deal with loose skin. So I'd like to know if anyone has had follow up surgeries to take care of or to lessen the effects of the loose skin and stretch marks?? Please share what your experience is in this area if you would. I understand some bariatric surgeons do this surgery themselves but I don't think mine does. IS there a site I can go to to research results? I guess I'm wondering if the results are worth it. In other words can they really improve the look ?? thanks, good to be back here chatting. THis site was a fabulous source for me in my pre-surgery months and post also, but I've just been too busy to come on here now, god luck to everyone both old and new, p- 3 replies

Huh, yeah, I'd be curious as to why also; for me, the only regret of sorts is why I didn't do it in my 40s... had mine Feb 10th, a fantastic decision

My lord, BeachGal, wow, you must feel wonderful!! Goodness. This really has been so life changing on so many levels, hasn't it/ Congrats to US...!!!! -
I was on mine for maybe the second day home (3 or 4th overall) but I realized I was taking it because they GAVE it to me and I was anticipating pain but there really wasn't anything tylenol couldn't handle. No, all in all I have to admit it was a really smooth pain free procedure; it was uncomfortable for sure, but real pain? very little thank god

No, hearing you say that, guess you're right; damn it's irritating as hell!! My wife did the exact same thing, guess that was why I felt a need to just find a way to shrug and rationalize it away. You're right, it's not just THIS issue, she just can't be confidential about anything.... she grew up that way with this huge disfunctional family -
Anyone with a BMI lower than 35 and had a bypass?!
Pedro Valle-Inclan replied to mmy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mo, man, thanks for response, damn I just dropped down to 195 - hell haven't weighed under 200 since I was literally a child. Feels incredible. My life spent living on advils, soma, flexerile, etc seem to be over I haven't taken anything for aches since surgery. As my friend says, "Pedro, if I hand you a backpack that weighs 95 lbs you're gonna look REAL quick to put it down somewhere" and he's right; that's a helluva lotta weight to have been luggin around on my back those years. I feel the biggest difference in little things you wouldn't think of, like the ease of tying my shoes, turning my head to look behind me in the car, walking up stairs; just strolling down the street I find myself thinking damn I feel good and light.... I kept telling myself that all the aches and pains were because of my age, and yes, there ARE extra pains as we age but I was BS-ing myself, it was the damn 100 freakin lbs. Let's DO this, Brother man....!! Keep me posted as you get down towards goal. By the way, my original goal was 215 ish, then when I passed that I realized, let's see where this all goes...
