  1. Dr. C, I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions for me? I attempted to have the lap band surgery but during the surgery my stomach was perforated. How should something like this have been repaired? How should the perforation have been fixed? Is there a protocol for this situation? Apparently the perforation took place on the fundus? In my situation, the surgeon cut the piece of my stomach and wrapped it around the esophagus. Kind of like a fundoplication? I have had a pretty difficult time with diarrhea since the surgery. It happens almost everytime I eat something and it has been several months since the surgery. I had an endoscopy and they said my stomach looks fine as does my esophagus etc... The gastroenterogist says that I do have a hernia near the belly button 2.6 x 4.0 cm and it is pinching my intestines which could cause the diarrhea. It is incarcerated? I now have to have it repaired. Have any of your patients experienced this as a result of the surgery? The surgeon also said that I could maybe find a surgeon that would do the band for me but he wouldn't. It would be considered too risky. At this point in time I wouldn't consider it because I would like to get the diarrhea/stomach pain to go away. :help: Thanks in advance for your advice. P.S. A CT of the abdomen revealed the hernia.

    Now What?

Hello everyone! I used to come here and post messages and read everyones posts as well. It was very helpful to me. However, my surgery did not go as planned. I had been researching my surgeon and procedure for over one year! I had my surgery date in July and everything went as planned up until I woke up from surgery. When I woke up from surgery I was told that the doctor perforated my stomach and he was unable to complete the surgery. Not to mention I would never be able to have the band in the future or at least he said he wouldn't because chances of further complication were very high. I was in the OR for 3 1/2 hours long as oppposed to the usual 45-60 minutes. I had the surgery here in the states. As we all know the chances of this happening are very very low but it does happen. I am here to tell everyone that. To be honest if I read this post before my surgery I don't believe it would have stopped me. The actual reason I am posting this though is I am devastated. I had been so excited about this for so long and now I don't know what to do. Does anyone know where there is a forum for these types of problems? I just don't know what to do. The worst part is I was a cash patient and lost a lot of money! I am however greatful that the perforation was detected and repaired in time. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks everyone I will take your advice but to be quite honest, I am petrified of having another surgery EVER for ANYTHING!!!! I have contacted an attorney but we will see what happens. I guess I will just have to do this on my own. Maybe I will feel different in the future! Thanks again!
