  1. Has anyone had their surgery done at Lake Health in Ohio? If so, did you need to pay your copay upfront or were you billed? Also, has anyone dealt with the Cleveland Clinic? I've been having some grievances with them and that's why I'm changing hospitals.

    Diabetics

How many of you had your diabetes reversed after surgery? If you did, were you on insulin and for how long? I've been on insulin for roughly 3-4 years. My endocrinologist thinks I'll be only on metformin once I leave the hospital. I was looking to see how many of you had that happen.
  3. I'm trying to get an idea of how long I will need help after the surgery. She will be 10-13 months when I get the surgery. I'm hearing anything from 2 weeks to 2 months before I could life her. She weighs 20lbs right now I doubt she will weigh more than 25 when I get the surgery. If it IS 2 months, I have no idea what I'll do. I don't have anyone who can take off that much work. So any suggestions will help! What did those of you with little ones do?
  4. So I finally saw my nut today. If I worked really hard and had a bit of luck I could get my surgery before the new year. But after some thought, financially it will be a it better to wait. So we are aiming for the first week of January. So excited to see some progress! However the Cleveland clinic requires 10% weight loss (roughly 20lbs for me). It's extremely hard for me to lose weight (thus the surgery). With my excess weight my knees and back hurt like hell and with my meds I'm always hungry. Anyone have any tips to beat hunger and exercises I can do that won't push my back and knees? My nut wasn't much help. ???? Anything but swimming for exercise please. I know it's best but the idea of a bathing suit at a gym pool terrifies me beyond belief.

    Need to lose before surgery

I don't drink pop. I actually despise carbonation lol. So I got that going for me.
  8. Okay I just saw a post about a crazy hospital bill. Now I'm freaking out. I looked up the average cost of rny in my area and its $25,000. My insurance pays 70% after my deductible. Basically, at this price, I calculated I'd be paying roughly $7000 out of pocket. Which is fine, my husband is borrowing against his retirement and we've saved. But I just saw a post with multiple people saying their bill was 100-200k+. Does anyone have a similar insurance as mine? If so, what did you pay out of pocket? Please say I'm freaking out for no reason.
  9. I've been telling people I'm having wls. Most are very supportive as they know my issues. But there are a few who treat me like I'm being lazy or extreme for getting it. Then they go through the "it's all in your head" crap and that basically I don't need this and I should just suck it up and eat right (like I haven't tried). Anyway I usually say it's for my diabetes. Which a lot of it is. It's frustrating though because I'm excited for this life change and want all the support I can get.

    What do you say?

B-52 I wish I hadn't told anyone and done what you did to be honest. But too late now. I'm not letting her or anyone else get me down by the way. I'm beyond excited to get the surgery. I just get a little irritated at people who say "just eat better and exercise". And to hear it from someone who was overweight, is even more irritating.

    What do you say?

The funny thing is I'm getting this mainly from a woman who was obese and recently lost 100lbs on weight watchers. I tried to explain to her that her situation was different. She had been skinny and in shape her whole life until she had her kids. So this was the first diet she's ever done. I've NEVER been thin. Ever lol. I've been on tons of diets and I lose weight. I've done weight watchers and gotten down 50lbs. Then I always gain it back and more. Simple diet and exercise don't work for me. Then I also added that I'm on insulin and have PCOS. Both inhibit weight loss. She still doesn't get it. So I just told her I'm not doing it to lose weight at all. Just doing it to immediately reverse my diabetes.
  12. I'm going with bypass because of the higher chance of diabetes remission.

    How to bring it up?

I said I'm getting wls and he said okay, that was that. We moved onto my other issues. Lol

    Crazy!!! You look beautiful!
  15. I had started the WLS program a few years ago and got vasculitis. The drugs they had to give me wouldn't be good with surgery in general let alone WLS. After the vasculitis went into remission I got pregnant. For 8 months I had the cutest little squirmy squishing my stomach and as far as eating goes it was heaven. I actually lost weight during my pregnancy. A month after she was born I got down to 209 (smallest I've been in over 10 years) and I tasted onderland. Then the bottomless pit of breastfeeding kicked in and my weight skyrocketed and I ballooned. I'm done breastfeeding now. I saw my doctor about a weight loss pill and she said there was no point, I'd just gain it back and said I should get the surgery. I looked at my kids and that was that.
  16. Hello I'm new here. I started the process for my surgery in early June. I have lots of questions if anyone has answers. 1) My insurance requires a 6 month diet. I just had a baby this past December. I'm a diabetic so I had to follow a strict diet my while pregnancy. I saw my endo once a month. My question is, do you think this will count as my 6 months or will I need to start over? 2) After my baby was born I ballooned in weight and it hasn't stopped. I've gained 60 lbs since then. I want to stop gaining and hopefully lose before my surgery. What kind of diets did people follow pre-op? (Not the 2 week liver shrink one) 3) After your insurance approved the surgery how long did it take for you to get the operation? 4) Last one! I'll need to pay 30% of the surgery plus my deductible. I'm getting the RNY. How much was your surgery cost (before insurance)? Did you need to pay it all upfront? And how did you afford the part insurance won't pay? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for anyone who answers!!!

    Bunch of questions

I've always been overweight. Afterglow first was born I gained 50 lbs. Then another 60 with this one. The sad part is a month after my second was born I was 209 lbs. Then I just skyrocket up. I'm still depressed about this. Thanks for your reply.
