  1. I did really well, with the big exception of a large piece of Turkey skin. I didn't overeat, and literally just tasted the pumpkin pie. I did get a huge kick out of my sister, the hostess for the large gathering. I had told her a couple months back that if I overeat, I will throw up. She must have told everyone, don't push Jeanne to eat another bite! Everyone knew I'd been sleeved, and was great about it. Loss of compliments for my 101 pound loss.
  2. Aquaalert is another good one, if you are on android.

What have I done to myself?

On the dizziness, too little salt can also contribute. If you think about it, we are eating so much less food, and especially at the beginning, it's not food we add salt to. I had orthostatic hypotension at the beginning, even with adequate fluids. I had to consciously add salt for several weeks.

The fear of regain is REAL!

I'm really curious if your aunt and cousins had any kind of prep program, and what it was? I had two. The first, a six month class and supervised weight loss with monthly meetings, was a joke. I learned more in a week reading online forums. I think if I had just had that class, I'd be at high risk of failure. The second, the three month Kaiser options program with weekly meetings, actually taught me a lot. To me, the variety of preparation for surgery is still fascinating, and I keep trying to correlate success / failure with prep.

    Post-op and crazy puppy!

For walking around the house right after your surgery, a walker would protect you from jumping puppy. That said, I had someone in the house to take care of the dogs right after my surgery, and NEVER had then in the same room if I was laying down.
  6. Out of nowhere tonight I suddenly felt like I had to vomit, 3 hours after I ate dinner. I spit up a lot of liquid, and had a horrible burning sensation in my throat, and taste in my mouth. I've never had acid reflux, I suppose that is what it was? I haven't been taking my prilosec the last few weeks, since I thought maybe after two months with no problem I was in the clear? Questions - I did really well yesterday at thanksgiving, except I ate a big chunk of skin from a deep fried Turkey. Could that trigger an attack over 24 hours later? It's the first time I've had anything that fatty in probably eight months. It was the only thing I've done out of the ordinary, today was back to my regular diet, although I did fund a beef Jerky with no carbs, and had about half an ounce of that with lunch. I had pepcid complete in the house, and chewed one of those. I'll call the doctor tomorrow, but can I restart the prilosec tonight? Should I sleep sitting up tonight? Would that help prevent another episode? If that is what people with gerd go through, my sympathy level has just gone through the roof. What a miserable feeling.

    Was this acid reflux?

Thanks, it was after. With gerd it's before? No leftovers or questionable food, and this felt completely different from "normal"vomiting. It took hours to feel better.

Finally - 8 Week Stall Is Over! (I Hope!)

Ok, I'm not trying to be nasty in any way, but 1000 - 1200 calories? I'm three months out, eating around 700 - 750 calories a day. That's absolute calories, I don't eat back my exercise calories. I plan on being around 1000 when I am in maintenance, which hopefully will be after losing another 50 pounds. I've had stalls, just went through a week-long one. It just seems like 1200 calories is telling your body you want to be in maintenance.

So why does this annoy me so much?

I come down on the side of patient failure versus sleeve failure. I'm only three months out, maybe I can remember to revisit this post in a year and see if I feel the same. In five years, will I be more... Forgiving? Empathic? The comments about too stupid to succeed struck a chord. At four weeks I had to attend a nutritional reminder session about transitioning from stage two to stage three. Everyone in the room had been through twelve weeks of options classes. At least eight of those classes discussed the no drinking with meals rule. When the instructor asked how much everyone could currently eat, most said somewhere around a half cup. One lady piped up, complaining that she just didn't understand why five weeks out, she could eat an entire taco bell large burrito. And she could even drink a large glass of milk with it! Someone asked why she was drinking with her meal, and her response was, "it wasn't Water, so it was ok". Ok, forget the whole why was she eating taco bell burritos, HOW could hours of teaching go right over her head? The instructor wasn't even surprised, which says a lot.

    Need to lose before surgery

I'm going to go against the general opinion here. I had to lose 10% of my weight in the options program for Kaiser. I was conditioned to think low carb, low carb, low carb by all the diets and by my endo. The options program gave me a diet that included 180 carbs per day, including baked potatoes, tortillas, oatmeal, Brown rice - all very filling carbs that satisfied my hunger for long periods. I was restricted to 2 to 3 ounces of protein every meal, and many veggies were free. This was completely against everything I had ever tried. The result? I lost 20% of my weight before surgery, dropped my oral diabetes meds, my A1c went from 8.7 to 6.4, and dropped my bp meds. All of this before surgery. The key was the long lasting carbs, that kept me from snacking, and gave me the energy to exercise. It's so popular to say low carb, but we are individuals, and it doesn't work for all of us.
