  1. Hello everyone! I just thought I'd share the experience of my surgery in Tijuana. I had surgery on Monday, December 12th, at Oasis of Hope Hospital. Dr. Illan was my surgeon. And it all started with BariatricPal Team MX. I chatted online with someone, asking different questions. Then I was referred to Bill Yanez, who sent me an email with information and a questionnaire I needed to fill out. I spoke to him a few times on the phone, and within days, after finding out that I was approved, I called Bill and scheduled my surgery. I paid my deposit, and just like that, I had a surgery date. I did research on Dr. Illan previously and was confident that I had picked the right surgeon. Then my NUT Stacy Eckel emailed me with my pre-op diet. She also answered any and every question. On December 12th, she picked me and my daughter up from the airport in San Diego and drove us to the hospital. I filled out paperwork, had my blood drawn, chest x-ray, and ekg. Then an IV was put in, I was given something to relax me, and off to my surgery! My surgery was a success. I woke up in recovery and after a while, they wheeled me to my room. I had a great recovery. The more I walked, the better it got. The doctors and nurses were amazing. Not to mention the valets - Carlos, Juan, and more whose names I can't remember. They were a big help. After I was discharged on the fourth day, we went to Pueblo Amigo Hotel & Casino. The junior suite was nice, more than enough room for my daughter and I.. Gary made sure we were taken care. He took us out with two other surgery sisters to go to the pharmacy and do a little shopping. By the time it was time to go (Memo took us back across the border and to the airport), I knew we were part of the family. I couldn't have made a better choice!!!! Thank you Bill Yanez, Stacy Eckel, Dr. Illan, the entire surgical staff, all of the doctors and nurses, all of the valets, Gary, and Memo!!!!!!!! ❤️ Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Unflavored protein

I had my surgery on 12/12 myself. And my post op plan is that on phase II, I'm back to Protein shakes. We need protein. Otherwise there is no energy to walk, which is important to our recovery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Mini gastric bypass

I had mini gastric bypass on December 12th. Mini gastric bypass is similar to gastric bypass. One of the differences is the way the pouch is made. It is made from a different part of the stomach that resembles the sleeve pouch, except it's still the same size as the pouch made with the bypass. The other difference is that there is only one joining, or anastomosis, instead of two. It's less chance of complications and it is just as effective as gastric bypass. It works the same way. Gastric Bypass

On day 3 post-op I started with clear liquids. It would feel like I was bloated. That's when I would stop. After some time, I could feel the bloating go down. I learned that was the sign of my being full. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  10. I wish I knew how long it would take me to really accept that I had the surgery in the first place. After fighting for more than two years to get surgery, here I was, finally on the loser's bench!! I wish I knew that looking at food has changed completely. Now when I see some food, even broth, that's in a medium bowl, I'm like, "What am I supposed to do with this?" Knowing I can't eat it all. I'm not hungry at all. It's amazing. 11. I did two days after I got home. Come to find out that I had bought the wrong Glacéau Vitamin Water Zero that had sugar in it. When I stopped taking it on the Monday after I got home, two days later I started feeling tired and lightheaded. After I told my NUT, she told me to try to add a shake and see if that helped. It did that day but the next day I was feeling the same. So when I emailed her that, she told me to have my blood pressure or blood sugar checked. I checked my blood pressure at home and it was normal. Then I thought about the Glacéau and told her that maybe because I stopped drinking that, that caused my tiredness and lightheadedness. She told me to add the V8 Splash Diet and that the little amount of sugar in it will be balanced out by the little bit of carbs. It helped a lot. No more tiredness or lightheadedness. 13. I had mini gastric bypass surgery on December 12th. I had some pain but it mostly felt like stomach soreness, with more soreness out of my far left incision, which turned out to be where my drain was. I was up and walking about two to three hours after my surgery. I only had gas in my abdominal area. And every time I walked it got better. The first time I got up I had two nurses standing on either side to help me. It was a little weird at first but you get used to it. The gas pains were worse than the stomach pains. The IV pain fluids I was receiving didn't really help a lot with that. But the walking did. I did take Gas-X strips, one every four hours or so, and that helped a little. Every day the pain got better, as well as the gas. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling sick

10 days after my surgery I started feeling tired and lightheaded. After I emailed my NUT, she told me to try a Protein shake which is from my Phase II post op diet. It did help a little. The next day, I was back to feeling tired and lightheaded. After I checked my blood pressure, I realized that one of the things I bought had WAY more sugar in it than I thought it did. But I had stopped drinking it because I started Phase I. The NUT told me to add some V8 Splash Diet, also from my Phase II. She told me I need to balance the little sugar that was in that with the small amount of carbs. And that did it. I thought this might help. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  17. Right now I tally everything in 8 oz increments. But on Monday, I get to drink 12 oz pre-made Protein shakes. The only problem is that my Protein Shakes are only 11 oz. So I'll just use that for the shakes and 8 oz for most everything else. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Thanks hun I just don't like the judgemental be of this site Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App I can't understand for the life of me that when someone is just trying to help, it's automatically thought of as judgmental. Did anyone say, How dare you even think about something like that? NO. They just are trying to tell you the truth. That's not judgmental. That's support. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    After care from Mx Surgery

Post-op Mexico? I called the surgeon I was going to use in Oklahoma and asked if he would be willing to do my post op care. I told them I was going to Tijuana Mexico, working with BariatricPal Team MX, and having gastric bypass with Dr. Illan. I was told that they need surgeon's operative notes, as well as any other notes. I am already on a referral for him anyway, and they do pre- and post-op care. So after he sees those notes, plus my chest x-rays, pre-surgery blood labs, post-op leak test, and a video of my surgery, I'm confident that he will decide to take me on as a post-op patient. I will also contact my Dr. Illan and Bill and Stacy with any questions I have. Pain meds

I had my surgery in Tijuana with BariatricPal Team MX and Dr. Illan. I was at Oasis of Hope Hospital. They will give you something to relax you. It's a powder they put under your tongue. It was nasty but it definitely did the job. They gave me Metamizole in my IV, and when I was discharged from the hospital, I was given Ketorolac, which is a sublingual. It worked very well. Now, I'm not sure what they give the other patients in their IV, but I know that they give the same Ketorolac to their discharged patients. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
