I know how you feel. I didn't realize that people can be treated that way until it was me. I had to change my primary doctor twice before getting one who acted like he/she cared, and didn't just assume all of my problems were because I was fat. The doctor wouldn't really believe me, like I needed to lie. I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), and if it wasn't for my endocrinologist and my gynecologist, I still wouldn't know what's going on with me. PCOS makes it even harder than normal to lose weight. I learned one of the most important lessons of my life, to be my own best advocate. I had to almost fight for every step of this gastric bypass process, from calling to check to see if the forms have been filled out, to calling to see if there has been any updates. But now I know to always stand up for myself.

Insurance requiring 5 years of consecutive diagnosed obesity! Anyone else have this in their policy?
GBLady41 replied to shasha1974's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did you have to provide documentAtion for each year, or where they ok with some kind of documented weight during that time? I just wonder how picky they will be! If I have to have a weight for exactly each of the 5 years or if my doc can just diagnose it... No. On my form there were spaces for weights and then one space for my weight five years ago. So I filled in the spaces with my previous visits and then filled in the one that was at least five years ago. But I also think that if you talk to your doctor, he/she will understand and give you what you need in order to get your surgery. Keep us informed. ???? -
I've started my pre-op diet early to be proactive. I realize that after the surgery, for the rest of my life, my food choices will have to change. I started on 8/9/15, in the afternoon. I knew that 98% of my struggles would be mental, feeling like I needed more food. So I kept telling myself that I'm eating more than enough. After the fourth day, I was fine. Ladies and gentlemen, we can do this. Everyone has their own story. But we also have things in common. We want to work our way back to health. For me, I'm fighting my way to the real me. The active, fun going, tomboyish me. And I'm going to get there. We are all going to get there. Be encouraged.

I'd try to get every visit you've had. And definitely use the visit with your gyn 7 years ago. That way, it will show that you have had a problem for at least five years. My insurance wanted that too. -

I'm pre-op too. I'm just waiting to meet with my surgeon, do my psych evaluation, and get my surgery date in a couple of weeks. I'm really excited!! -

Hi @, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who decided to be proactive. I'm waiting for my approval to schedule to see my surgeon. I know by faith it will happen and I have started a pre-op diet. I have 4 protein shakes, 2 broths, 1 serving of skim milk, 1 low sodium vegetable juice, and 1 sugar free jello. I'm starting on my second week. I'm completely excited for my surgery!!! ???? -

I've had an EGD diagnostic and a Nuclear Hepatobiliary Scan with Gallbladder Ejection Fraction (HIDA Scan). The EGD went fine. They put you out for the procedure. The HIDA Scan just takes a while to complete. There's nothing to it.
