    Nervous About Attending Seminar

I would not feel that way if I were you. Smaller people than you will be there and have had the surgery I had it done with a BMI of barely 35.
  2. Hi everyone, I was just banded two days ago on 1/9/08. There are so many people on here who have had tremendous success with the band, and I am just wondering if people can get together their best tips for being successful in losing weight with the band and reply to this thread. I don't know why, but my biggest fear is that I will go through all of this, and then not lose weight! Any tips would be appreciated. What rules (besides the obvious ones from the doc) have you all followed that helped you lose the weight?
  3. Dear Texan: I just wanted to share my experience with you, I was banded on 1/9/08 at 3p.m., so it has been just barely 72 hours since my surgery. I have not experienced the "Gas" pants in the shoulder, but I feel a tremendous amount of pain in my stomach. It hurts to take a breath, it hurts to walk, hurts to move - and i got the hiccups earlier today - OH MY GOD - worst pain ever. I too, am wondering when it will subside - and I will feel a little bit of comfort

    Stomach Cramping Normal??

Nikki - I am so happy to read your post - I was banded on Wednesday 1/9, and I am feeling the same thing, right below my sternum, and it also is VERY painful to take a deep breath in. I do not have pain in my shoulder or anything like that - but the pain deep in my gut is awful! It kind of feels like its right below my left rib cage - My pain meds do not seem to be helping this pain at all - what are you doing to relieve it???

    Is it really worth it?????

Dear AMS: I got banded yesterday, So I cannot really testify to the actual weight loss part of the band, but i will say that I was pretty terrified of not waking up and of the actual surgery. I am in a significant amount of pain since it has only been a day since my surgery, but also, every time i think about the surgery, i am SO happy that its finally done. Its over with, and now comes the healing and weight loss.
  7. Thats the bad thing too- the pain meds I have do not seem to touch it:( Thanks for your support everyone!
  8. Dear Brandymom - Thanks for the input, I'm dying over here! Cannot wait to start feeling better:)
  9. Hi there, I was banded yesterday at 3p.m. so, it has not even been 24 hours since my surgery. So far, i don't have any shoulder pain, but what is killing me is this awful burning sensation in the pit of my tummy whenever I take a breath in. Does anyone know what this is? Is it also gas? It is very painful - and a little on the left side like right below my sternum. Any insight? Thanks!
  10. I was banded yesterday at 3p.m. by Dr. K, and I am wondering if anyone has some insight to this pain that I am feeling. I don't know if its gas or what. My shoulder feels fine, but I have this awful burning feeling in the pit of my stomach below my sternum every time I take a deep breath in. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Its VERY painful. I really don't even have to breathe deep, but any breathing hurts Thanks!
  11. I had researched lap-band for a year and a half and had 2 consults before i decided to have the surgery. I knew early on that I wanted as few people as possible to know about it. Meaning, my husband, parents and maybe my sister. Well, my mother convinced me to tell my grandmother because she watches our son all the time, and she is going to want to know what is going on. I prefaced the conversation by telling her that she needed to promise to not tell anyone what I was about to tell her, she agreed, criticized my decision and so on. But she promised to not tell anyone. Well, now I am getting banded in 2 days, and I found out that my sister told her boyfriend and my grandmother told her friend. Both acted like it was no big deal, and didn't even tell me or ask how I felt. I am SO upset, and feel so betrayed. I wanted to go through this with as little stress as possible, and now I am going to feel so much pressure with all these eyes watching me. Has anyone gone through anything similar?

    Feeling Betrayed!

Exactly my point! As if this is not hard enough for us already! We are overweight, going through a major surgery, and getting ready to make huge changes in our lifestyles, etc. The last thing we need is judgement, and everybody and their mother thinking that they know what is best, and judging. I am so annoyed, and everyone is telling me to not let it get to me, but that is easier said than done!

    Feeling Betrayed!

That is the frustrating thing! I DO see these people all the time. I want to just have the surgery, recover and then start to lose weight. I don't want to feel bad if i don't lose a ton of weight at first, I dont want to feel like I have eyes on me, etc. And now, I do. Now people know, and if for some reason i don't lost alot at first or it comes to a halt later on down the road, not only will I feel bad about myself, but I will have to feel judgement from other people. I just cant believe that they would do this without even consulting me! I never mixed words when i said i didn't want people knowing. I was very clear. Now i just feel this added pressure and stress which I don't need before surgery. I am so upset.
  14. Denise, I live in Littleton, CO - So, I am not traveling far at all, thanks goodness. My husband is off for a week, and then i go back to my office job after that - So, I am really hoping that I will be o.k. I also am NOT telling coworkers - So, I hope to not be in such obvious pain that people ask whats wrong :/ thanks again for your input
  15. Denise, Thanks for the reply. What does your soreness feel like - You did sit ups? Burning, Throbbing pain? I am so incredibly nervous I can't believe it. I have barely eaten on my preop diet because I cannot think of ANYTHING else but wednesday. If your kids are younger - are you able to pick them up yet? Thats one thing I am worried about - I will not have to lift my 2 year old son who is about 35 pounds for a week - but when I go to back to work after that, I will have to get him ready in the morning and such. thanks!

    Denied!!! :'(

TarHeelLuv: So funny that you say that - I am getting banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum on Wed 1/9 - I am SO SO Scared, anxious, nervous - and every other emotion! I am glad to see you have been making good progress so far, its reassuring
  17. Hi everyon, just found this thread for Dr. K! I am being banded on 1/9/08 at the Crown Point Surgery Center - I am SO scared, anxious, excited and nervous!! How are the people at the surgery center - This thread is very long i know - how is everyone doing on their progress that has had the band done by Dr. K? Significant weight loss? I am very excited, and ready to do the work - but I am SO terrified of going through this and NOT losing any weight! Can anyone ease my fears?
  18. :help:Hello everyone! I am new to the lapbandtalk forum. I am getting banded in one week, and I just got off the phone with my nutritionist for instructions on the preop diet. I forgot to ask her such an important question, and now I can't reach her. I start the 7day modified Atkins diet tomorrow to shrink my liver. I dislocated my shoulder last week, and I am still needing an painkiller every once in a while when my shoulder is really tight - does anyone know if it is o.k. to take these until my surgery in a week?? Thanks, any input would be so appreciated!

    Pre-Op Question: Help!

Just incase anyone has this same question - I called the doc's office and they said this painkiller before surgery was just fine! Thanks

    Denied!!! :'(

Tina - That seems ridiculous to me! I was approved at 5'8, 225 lbs! Is it your doctor that is denying you the surgery or your insurance?

    Pre-Op Question: Help!
