Has anyone kept it a secret?
Pescador replied to VSG4Mag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank God we told no one, not even my husbands 31 y/o son. You won't be disabled. You are just on an eating plan. I am thankful to have more fun things to do and enjoy rather than talking about this with anyone!!!! Life didn't change one bit that people noticed and questioned me. -
What to buy prior to surgery
Pescador replied to Newbeva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was shopping 2 days after the sleeve. I have thrown out so many protein shakes that I stocked up on. I have so many cans of soup. I bought expensive protein bars that went in the garbage. Ugh! Do not stock up. Do not buy 24 of anything. I never had pain or needed pain pills or a heating pad. We are all different. Walmart is close to everyone so I wouldn't buy unless I needed something. Good luck. Toss the bra completely as you rest after surgery. -
First time eating out 5 weeks post op
Pescador replied to JerseyJules's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seriously my first piece of chicken was slowly cooked hours on slow and soft, falling apart, in a crockpot. Nearly killed me. Since then I have tiny bites of chicken salad but chicken has become a no no. Even grilled and dry on a salad doesn't interest me. -
Omg my fat friends are worse than my skinny bitch friends...wtf
Pescador replied to xoxococojay's topic in Rants & Raves
This is the real reason I told no one about the sleeve. Now I only have to listen to the irritating comments about weight loss and what I shouldn't eat now. Thank God I do not have to discuss my surgery or have some watching what I eat and commenting. And wanting to be the first to tell someone else about my surgery. I haven't forgotten one person here saying no one but her HR head knew about her surgery, and then everyone at her job knew about her surgery. -
I only wish I had restriction. You will be able to eat all day every day at some point, if you want to. Don't despair because you cannot eat now.

First time eating out 5 weeks post op

There will come a day where you can eat anything. Enjoy your restriction. Chicken is the worst thing to eat - a small soft piece blocked my airway and I thought I would be dead, serious as a heart attack. When you go out this soon, I found that ordering a cup of bisque, was the perfect thing. I focused on my lunch friend, and sipped a little of the bisque. Enjoy the now, because it all comes back, being able to eat anything. Wish I could return to that stage where I wasn't hungry. -
When did your loss start to taper off?
Pescador replied to eliminnowp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would advise work your butt off while you have restriction! You don't have that long even tho some say it is easy. NOT. -
It gets worse. The hunger returns completely. I find myself dieting just like before, with 30 lbs regained. Just struggling. Hard to excercise when you get older like me but I just bought a treadmill. Good luck.

size of sleeve / portion stomach removed matter?
Pescador replied to bariboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We would do it again in a heartbeat. It has saved my husband's life. He just had a heart blockage. He would be dead if he still weighed 320 lbs, and especially because his diabetes is under control. I am off Metformin and we are both off 1 blood pressure med each. My asthma is under control. -

Issues at 9 days postop

My personal opinion is that was way too much food, dense food. I remember eating a tsp of refried beans when allowed. They tend to gas up your stomach. If you jump back into this kind of food like baked potatoes you will watch the scale creep up. Take advantage of eating little right now because it is great. A time will come when you will stop losing and gain, especially if you eat like this. I have hardly any restriction now and I am back to dieting after putting back on 30 lbs in 4 years. I eat no bread, potatoes, sweets or carbs. -
What can I expect the first 4-6 weeks?
Pescador replied to Howard's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I walked a mall 4 days after the sleeve. I was on no pain pills and spent 8 hours in the hospital. You will not be an invalid. Go and enjoy without food. -
Can't even help myself. Nothing works. Gained back 30 lbs and struggle back on diets that aren't working.
-
Sorry but you will be cheating a lot more than this. At some point you will STOP a losing weight so do your best NOW. Gaining 30 lbs is IMPOSSIBLE to get off.

I am with you cockapoomom. I have finally stopped this hell with the beyond diet. Clean organic eating, nothing processed, no fast food. For the first time in six months the scale is moving down, not up. It is not a diet. It is clean eating and fresh food. The advice from my surgeon did not work. An apple and not eating, and his life coach, didn't work. My 1 egg with lots of spinach, etc keeps me full till dinner, Check it out on Pinterest to get the basics. So tired of it all, but decided the clean eating is the only answer.

My God this is the most ridiculous post ever that you women need to tell these little kids. -

My husband didn't tell his 31 yo son. Why would anyone consider telling a child? Good grief! -
4 days after my sleeve I walked an entire mall. I spent 8 hrs in the hospital OP, needed no pain pills at home. I was 67 years old at the time. Pack your little lunch and go.

My husband and I were sleeved at 67, almost 4 years ago. He has lost over 100 lbs and it has added years to his life, as well as quality of life. Diabetes had destroyed my peace of mind as he got older. We live normally now, and seriously eat to live. Sure I miss chicken and dumplings, biscuits, gravy, etc. but I refuse to bring that stuff in my house. Wish we had known about the sleeve 25 years ago when we started going to WL Seminars. I still watch My 600 lb Life, to remind myself what food can do to one'S body and life. Do this for your daughter. If you are ready to let her be the focus of your life, not food. ❤️

size of sleeve / portion stomach removed matter?
Pescador replied to bariboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Time eating is irrelevant. We eat no bread, carbs, sWeets. We are both 70. Husband maintains perfectly. I had a low BMI. I work with a life coach at the surgeon's office. No matter what, I struggle terribly, I eat less than my husband. I follow rules. I backtrack to shakes. I try the re-set the pouch. -

Trust me you can eat everything you want in a while. I am struggling over three years out, because I keep gaining. My husband and I are a no carb family due to diabetes and love of carbs, we don't eat out, yet I am not that far from where I started. My surgeon has a life coach in his office, I also work with her.
