  1. It was hard feeling like I led him to it. I had asthma, HBP and diabetes. Those cormidibities led me at 230 lbs to qualify for the surgery. I went first, being strong. My husband would tell you today that it is the best thing that has ever happened to him in his life. It was SCARY but thank GOD it has changed our lives. You won't regret it.
  2. I followed my diabetic husband through 15 years of weight loss seminars that seemed too invasive for him. Finally we met the most wonderful surgeon at a seminar, and learned of the sleeve. I had a low BMI, but my husband would not have done this surgery unless I led him to it. I really was scared to lose him due to diabetic problems. We had Rescue on speed dial. We were 67 years old, and this has been life changing. We would do it again in a heartbeat. I feel it has added life to our years!!!!!!! He has lost over 100 lbs and life is so much better,no Rescue calls, no more being unconscious during the night, we are both off one blood pressure med each. I am off Metformin. My husband was FAT his entire life, sadly. He was on OPtifast twice at $5,000 a pop. He lost 100 lbs each time but gained it back immediately. I would say start living. Do it.

    Blood Sugars

I came off Metformin since the sleeve in 2013 and my A1c is perfect. My husband is a 30+ year type 2 diabetic. His A1c is also great since 2013, his insulin has been cut in half, and all the late night calls to Rescue when he was unconscious are a thing of the past. We did the surgery because of his health. We are 70 and would do it again in a heartbeat. Kayaking is fun, btw.
  4. I too had a low BMI and went from 215 to 160. Then. Things a cruise and traveling got me back to 190. I am stuck. No breads, pasta, lots of protein, salads and water. The scale hasn't moved in five months. I have bought a treadmill and struggling to try to get things going.

    Normal consumption of food?

You will soon be able to eat the entire bowl of heavy calories. The restriction lessens greatly.

Feeling Your Sleeve 7 Years Later

I gained back slowly over the past three years. The first Year I lost. I can eat anything. Now. I am back on shakes. I eat boiled eggs. I eat tuna. We eat lots of salads. We do not eat out. I am back on diets. The surgeon had me work with a life coach. Nothing works. Just bought a treadmill. Oh well I would still do it again.

    Did your blood work improve?

My husband and it came off l BP med each, and I came off Metformin. His insulin dose was cut in half. No more calling rescue in the middle of the night when his blood sugar dropped to 40. Four years since sleeve and definitely have a better quality of life. We are 71 now and even kayak.

Feeling Your Sleeve 7 Years Later

Four years out and feel nothing. I never felt anything. Just wish I had more restriction when eating.

    Avocado soft food

Avocado has healthy fat and is a great treat, even four years after being sleeved.

    Wendys Chili

I remember for Thanksgiving four years ago I made my own chili, and sipped it slowly. What a delight. You can make a small pot, using the best ingredients, semi purée it, and you will love it. Freezable too.
  11. Not sure of the nutritional value in baby food, but I would take a shake any day over that stuff. I love Mexican, so the refried beans with a bit of mild salsa was delightful and my favorite. Chicken still is a struggle for me four years after the sleeve. No matter how soft it is. Enjoy your restrictions now because it won't last forever.
  12. Three weeks out I don't think you should be eating nuts or jerky. Personally I would carry a protein shake in my bag, a sugar free pudding or jello, and a couple of the very small travel packs of peanut butter. I don't fly often, so if you need your doc to write a note about a dietary restriction so be it.

    Feeling worried

My husband was in the hospital four days due to a complication and had been told to take the CPap. He never was asked to use the CPap, and since the sleeve four years ago he has not needed or used it. He no longer snores since he lost 100 lbs.

    Unjury protein

I hope you all have discovered the Torani sugar free syrups to flavor the vanilla shakes with. So many flavors, Hazelnut, Salty Caramel, etc. they are at World Market, Amazon, and in your grocery stores by the coffee.

    Upcoming Surgery

Took nothing except purse and the loose clothing I wore. Back home in my bed the same day.

    How much time?

I was in the hospital about 8 hours, took one pain pill a,t home, and was shopping the mall within 3 days. I was 67 then. Some people need rest, but I was energized and happy. Still am 4 years later.

I'll eventually be able to eat more, right?

That will change completely. You will be back to normal.

Ok. 3 weeks out. Puréed. Help

Most of us have been there. You just deal with it. I would kill to go back to that stage where I was not hungry. A shake, a boiled egg, I was satisfied. Four years later you will be complaining because your weight loss has stopped. Please try to just relax, enjoy the restriction, and get a hobby. Walk. Work in the garden. Forget the food. Good luck.
  19. I would go slow on buying cases of protein shakes. I had some go bad and the money went down the drain. I also bought protein bars I bought from Amazon, two different kinds, which neither my husband or I liked, and they went in the trash. As far as protein powders and shakes, do look at the expiration date.

Will I be able to keep working

That really sounds crazy that you cannot drink for ten hours. Guess I am old fashioned. Exert your "legal " rights and you could be jobless. Good luck with this!!!

Will I be able to keep working

At 67 I walked a mall four days after the sleeve and spent only spent 8-9 hours in the hospital. I had no pain. You won't be able to lift. You can take protein drinks and sip through your shift, you don't need Food. You can surely sip water as you walk back and forth. You can do it.

    Looking for your thoughts...

I was 67 four years ago when I was sleeved, I was in the hospital at 6 am and home at 4 pm. I took nothing except my husband as we were told ahead it would be short stay, I took one pain pill when I got home, rested the next day and was in the grocery store the second day, and in the mall four days later. I took it slow, had no pain, needed little food except soups, broth and water. The only thing I did was buy too much thinking I would be laid up, and ended up throwing a lot of stuff away. Wasted money.

    Sleeved on April 4th

Four years since sleeve, seems like the burping is when I eat too fast, or maybe eat a little too much. Not really bothersome.

    Sleeved on April 4th

Yes very normal. Take it slow. You will be burping a long long time.

    Hair Loss

This is the most talked about topic here. I lost hair from 5 months to 2 years. I seriously wore a wig 2 years. Or a visor or hat in Florida heat. My hair is blonde and fine. I stopped coloring, and tried every product except Rogaine. I took Biotin 3 worthless years. I hear people say they use extensions but my fragile hair could not have taken that. I wish you the best. 4 years later I have healthy hair except it it didn't quite come back around my hairline. Bangs fix that. I would find a wig for emergency and be prepared. Mine is beautiful and cost $200. Wash and wear.
